Mmm... these posts are making me lose confidence.. 🙁

I thought I went in there and aced my interview... Of course, in my opinion, i'm doomed until I get a call/letter/anything.

Don't let it get to you. I got stressed out after reading some posts by other people, but I got accepted. Gotta have faith!

I'll be interviewing Nov. 17 yay!! I was waitlisted last year after interviewing in one of the last batches. I'm hoping applying earlier will give me the boost I need for an acceptance!

Thanks everyone for the responses, I was just more worried than anything because I wasn't sure if they gave interview to everyone or if I truely should be happy and proud that they gave me one....

We will see how November goes, all I know is it would be AWESOME not to have to take the MCAT again (I've already started studying again just in case)

You should def be proud of yourself for getting an interview, they dont just hand em out like candy! You just go in there and give it your best and make sure you let them know how much you want to come to DCOM, you should write a letter of intent!👍

so i interviewed really late last yr march 7th and was waitlisted.... nothing has really changed on my application other then graduating and being in top 10% of graduation class because Im interviewing earlier how much better are my chances do you think?
I wouldn't worry so much about the clinical experience (sorry to disagree w/ the other post but I do for the most part). It wouldn't hurt to shadow a D.O. or something like that but it's not going to make or break your application. I know last year a whole lot of the late applicants were waitlisted and they would have and different chances had they applied earlier.

As the school grows and improves the amazing reputation it has, it will be harder to get in. So basing your chances even on what happened last year is hard to do. You need to get all the experience you can, keep improving your application up to the point you have the acceptance letter in your hand (or phone call). Study to retake the MCAT, strive to do well in your current classes, turn your application and ALL supplimental materials in right away. If selected for an interview put your best foot forward and be your self. All of these things combined will get you in not just a stellar MCAT or great GPA. Nor will one thing knock you out (ok if you have like a 2 MCAT or a 1.5 GPA or are a complete jerk at the interview, etc but you know what I mean) so don't stress over the small stuff...improve what you can, return everything quickly and be yourself!

Hope this helps at least someone...Good Luck All!!!!!

Does anyone know if the school does just lecture based teaching or do you also get to work on case studies

It is a lecture based cirriculum, but we do work on a couple cases within the systems we have. They range from discussing something for an hour to having to research topics to figure out what is going on. But it is mostly lecture based.

Hey all. I was wondering if any current students at DCOM can help me find a good job for my significant other who will be coming with me when I come next fall. She really loves books. Are there any book stores up there? What about a job in a library? Also, she really wants to teach ESL. Does anyone know if there are jobs teaching English to speakers of other languages? Thanks for all your help! Can't wait for next fall! 😀

I have always been under the impression that once you get an interview they are not concerned with numbers anymore, they want to see you for you is this the case as LMU?

Hey docman,

I had the opposite situation last year, a strong MCAT and weak GPA. While DCOM is certainly interested in more than your numbers, you definitely want to be prepared to discuss your weaknesses because it will likely come up in the interview. Basically they want to be sure you are capable of handling the difficulty of med school courses. So come ready to persuade them! They obviously aren't overly concerned if they offered you an interview. Good luck! :luck:

Hi FutureDR,

I don't know of any book stores in this area, other than the school's small store on campus. Knoxville definitely has them, but I'm not familiar enough with the area to know if there are any closer than that. Sorry 🙁

That's okay. Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it! 🙂 You don't have any idea about the prices for those apartments beside University Inn Apartments, do you? Sorry to keep asking.

Offered an interview today. It was a nice little pick me up after finishing a mediocre interview day at another school. I probably won't go though. I've got two acceptances and can't rationalize driving up and missing more school. I'm slightly tempted though.

Book Haven in Middlesboro kinda behind the Kroger.
441 N. 12th St.

There is a spouse, Keith I think, that works in a book store in Corbin. About an hour away.

I applied for a posted opening at the Middlesboro Public Library, but never got a call back. I suspect I wasn't related to anyone already working there.

Well, I haven't posted here for a while. I hope interviews are going well. For anyone that was at Oasis on the 20th, hope you guys nailed your interviews. Is anyone coming from the great state of Delaware? haha, we need more Delawareans here. lol

It should get done around 1:30-2:00.

Hey All. I have a few questions for any current DCOM students concerning internet providers. Where does everyone get there internet providers from and how much is it a month? Also, does anyone have cable? How much does that cost? Also, how much is health insurance? Sorry for the oh so many questions. I'm getting ready to talk to my girlfriend's father about proposing and I want to be able to give him some accurate information regarding what it will be like while I'm in medical school. Any help is GREATLY appreciated! Everyone has been SO helpful!

OHHH, Congrats! I hope she says yes! Sorry, can't help with any of your questions. I very well might be joining you at DCOM next year.

We use Communicom cable internet at home and for our wifi at the coffee shop. Seems to be plenty fast enough for mulitple students to stream video of their lectures at the same time. I think cable & internet combined at the house is ~$80/month.

Hey...Congrats and good luck! I live in Middlesboro and have an internet/phone/cable package. The phone is unlimited long distance, the cable is just the 80 or so normal channels and no premium channels and the internet is basic no frills cable but it works plenty fast for all my school needs. I can run my computer and my laptop no problem. As far as insurance goes I looked at mine for just one person and it was 1000 a semester. The school provides that and takes it out of your student loans. Of course it will be a bit higher for you and a spuse.
Hope this helps!

I have an interview at LMU-DCOM on November 17.

Unfortunately, I can't drive.
There is no shuttle service from airport and taxi is super expensive.

I was wondering if anybody is coming there from airport at Knoxivelle to Holiday INN, so we could split the car rent.

Or if anybody knows how to get there without driving myself I would be very grateful for advice.😀

Initially, my PPC lost my complete packet of evaluations from my professors prior to meeting with the committee chair. I found this out the Friday before my interview on Monday (10/20). I had my evaluations completed by my professors again and hand delivered to the PPC.

On Weds. (10/22) I had my interview with the committee chair and he said he would get my packet out "immediately" since I had my interview w/ DCOM.

It is now Mon. (10/27) and I called my PPC to find out that they have a new secretary now and it is her first day, so she doesn't know what to do. The chair is absent today, but I received an e-mail from him asking if I had completed 2 semesters of physics (uh, no, just one, but taking the second semester in the spring). Core courses aren't required to be completed until matriculation.

Sigh.. so, apparently he's out. Who knows when he will be back in. Tomorrow, hopefully.

The more he freakin' procrastinates, the more time it takes to hear from DCOM, because the ADCOM won't even consider me until they receive my letters.

Not happy. Not happy. Not happy. 😡

I sent in my secondary last week and I got my interview invite today!!! Is there anyone else who will be there on Nov. 3rd? How long does the Pizza Night last? I have to drive from eastern NC, and it's about an 8 hour trip........not the best ride in my wrangler. Also how fast are the hotels filling up? Hopefully there will be some space left.😀

I'm also interviewing on the 3rd. i made all my travel arrangements today and booked a room at the suggested hotel. They still had rooms left when i made my arrangements.

My return flight is leaving TYS at 4pm. I have to be back in jersey at 9-10pm since i have work at 6am the next day. Since its about a 2 hour drive to the airport do you think I'll have a problem leaving DCOM at about 1pm or so? I've never flown or anything like that so idk how much time to give myself to make my 4pm flight.

any word on where the core rotation sites will be? any in nashville? how is it determined which students go where, class rank, family....?

m323- I'm interviewing that day also although won't be coming from the airport. I'm driving from IL and am staying at the holiday inn express in middlesboro. There is a shuttle from there and back to the school so at least you wouldn't have to worry about that.

Phenol- I would suggest trying to get a later flight out or calling admissions to double check that it is ok to leave earlier than 1pm. Usually you want to be at an airport hours before your flight (1 is cutting it pretty close) especially if you aren't used to flying. I interviewed last year at DCOM and there are different interview slots and I'm sure they could schedule you in an early slot just in case. We did a tour and that jazz after the interviews so I bet you could cut out early if needed. You are pretty lucky they offered you such an early interview date though! I got my invite last week and the first date offered to me was Nov. 17.

I'm going to call and switch my flight to one that departs at 6pm...that should leave me with enough time to finish up at DCOM and get settled at the airport without cutting it so close. Thanks for the help.

Downside is i wont get in bed til like midnight and i have to be up at 5am for a full day of work. ughhhhhh. 🙄

Not sure yet, I think they'll release that info in a month or two. I doubt family will be a factor as it should not be.

From my experiance it only takes about 1 1/2 hours to get to the knoxville ariprot form here, and its a pretty small airport so although most airports suggest getting there a few hours ahead of time, I've found that 1 hour ahead of your flight it more than enough. But this is just my opinon, always better to be extra safe! 🙂 Good luck!!!

Pizza night usually lasts about an hour to an hour and a half maybe? Its all about who is there and how many questions you have I'd say!

Sounds good. How's the turn out for medical students usually?

The whole day ends around 1:30. I personally think it would be disrespectful and show disinterest to leave early seeing how they told us it would end then (at least they told me).

Google and Garmin both recommend taking Hwy33 down to knoxville, but I highly recommed taking Hwy63 out to I75, then going south. It's a couple of miles longer, but Hwy33 has a lot of traffic once you get close to Knoxville and can take a lot longer.

I'm not exactly sure, but I think they are mostly going to be in the Knoxville area, and some in Chattanooga. I don't know about Nashville. I'm sure there will be more info once the 2nd years get their rotation sites and they can tell us. I think it's going to be determined based on a lottery system, so I'm not sure what kind of say we will have in the matter. I do know that once you get your sites you will have a period of time that you can trade with other students.

Good choice and good luck! I have to be at work at six too ;(

When I first got to my interview, Ms. Janette asked if anyone needed to leave early from the interview day for flights and such.. So, just let her know. After noon, it is simply tours of different facilities and lunch.

I don't see it as a problem, as long as you explain to them that it was the latest flight you could get or whatever the circumstance.

Good luck!! 🙂

Oops sorry how lame to forget that! It's like $120 a month but I have the HD channels and a DVR from the cable company. Word to the wise if you live in KY it takes the like 2 weeks to get your phone number set up and they won't install anything until that is done....moral of the story...hit the cable company first once you find a place (at least in Middlesboro)

FYI we were told initially on interview that family situations would be taken into consideration for rotations. This was to minimize issues for married couples with spouses who work and for families with kids to minimize school changes. Now that isn't the case and we'll deal with it but keep in mind your opinions are yours and not a necessary addition to this forum in my opinion.

Thanks for your words of wisdom! I will definitely do that then. Middlesboro is where I'm looking to live, so I really appreciate that! 👍

No problem...I live here and like it so if you have any questions or need anything please don't hesitate to PM me.

For going to the airport, I'd have to agree. Just pray you don't get caught up in the mess that is the traffic light system of Jacksboro/LaFollette.

There are multiple ways to take 33, and miss all the traffic in Halls/Fountain City, but it's probably simpler to just go 63 to 75. I'd then recommend 275 South to 40W to 129 South, but I'm guessing the directions google gives you are 640W to 40W to 140.

i got charged $150 to change my flight...wow. Air travel sucks.

Does anyone know of houses for rent close to LMU-DCOM? I was also curious about the price of those new apartments beside the University Inn Apartments. Does anybody have any idea how much those will be? Thanks! LMU-DCOM here I come!!!! 😀

Just called today and my application is complete and ready for review! Hopefully I'll be getting an interview soon, and I'm pretty excited about things.

One random question though...Since LMU-DCOM is relatively new, and only has provisional accreditation, is there any risk or worry about LMU achieving full accreditation? It would be rough to go through several years of school, only to have the school not gain accreditation.

Although that is highly unlikely to occur (from what I hear, the accreditors have been blown away by DCOM), at my interview, I was told that before they could even begin to think about inviting students to DCOM, they had to have money to pay for all 4 years of tuition for all students that are attending DCOM in the 4 years prior to accredtation. I can't remember what the number was, but there's a whole big bunch of money sitting in a bank account somewhere if for some ungodly reason DCOM didn't pass. But, that is VERY unlikely. 😉

Can't help you with the apartments, I'm hopefully going to be looking for one, too. Just got to get my stinking DO to finish my evaluation form. Sigh...

I have heard that DCOM has really impressed the review committee as well. Also I think what we were told at my interview is no school has not been accredited after gaining provisional accreditation. So I think it would be highly unlikely that we would be the first school not to get accreditation.

I hope you get an interview soon. Good luck :luck:

I have no clue how much the apts next us at the University Inn Apts are, wish I could help you out 😕 I dont really know of any DCOM students who live there, I think its mostly LMU undergrad students. I did hear that each apt has 4 rooms, each with its own bathroom, and then a common shared living room and kitchen...seems kind of like dorm style. It does look they might be building something accross from those apts (is that what you were talking about?), but I have no idea what the deal is with those, sorry! 🙁
