I just happened to log on to see if there was any news from you! congratulations on the interview! I will keep checking to hear how things go. I am very confident you will get in this time around.

Wife to student of 2012

I am really looking forward to this interview. I am flying out tomorrow morning and staying with my family... can't wait because its been 18 months since I flew out last. Looking forward to pizza too 🙂

Good luck you guys! Definitely eat some pizza at Oasis.. Just make sure there are plenty of napkins or cardiologists on hand to either remove the grease or remove the blockage, respectively. 😉

Super good though - Ham and black olive all the way!

BTW - Have any of my 10/20 peeps heard anything yet?!?!

Grease is good 😀...with a wife as a cardiac nurse my grease intake has been...well...limited... I can't wait to get an excuse to eat some greasy pizza.

Well I will be leaving Nashville around 1:30 or 2 Monday afternoon EXTREMELY sleep deprived. I also have a physics 2 test that morning and will be getting of from work at 7 am (working in ER from 7p-7a).

I am planning on coming to Oasis Monday night before my interview on Tuesday, and hoping to meet some new people.... Will there be as many people there Monday night as there are going to be Sunday night?

I am really excited about this interview, with it being one of my top schools and as a vacation from work and school for a day or two.... If anyone has any advice to give at the last minute before the interview it would be much appreciated, I usually interview well but I am still just worried about my app. because of the low MCAT score.....

See ya'll there...

Don't worry about your MCAT... I think that once you get the interview your grades and MCAT have less play. I could be wrong, but if they were really concerned I don't think they would have sent you an invite.

Then again PNWU called me and said my gpa was enough of a concern for them to waitlist me... so I guess it all gets stacked up in the end. Their words on the phone to inform me of their waitlist decission were "you interviewed well and we liked your EC's but maybe a post bac program could raise your GPA" Guess they didn't notice that I already did that. I like to think that other schools are a little more thorough when they review the primary and secondary app.

I don't think the low MCAT will matter if you got an interview. I got in with a low MCAT. I did get asked about it in my interview indirectly though. Their question was "do you think the MCAT is a good indicator of whether a student will be successful in medical school"? I said yes (in more words though). You may want to think about how you'd answer in case they ask you something like that too. Just be confident in the interview and you'll do fine.

Good luck.

I was wondering if anyone knows of grants/scholarships students can get to help pay for medical school. 😕 Any ideas? Thanks!

Your best bet will be the Stafford loans. They give you a better interest rate (albeit only slightly) and part of them won't accrue interest until you get out of school. Just hope and pray that we ALL get loans next year the way the economy is going. I dont think there is going to be a big problem for us, but still.

Anyways, for scholarships and stuff, start w/ Fastweb.com or just google. The thing that stinks is that you can only get money up to the cost of attendance. And even then, if you need extra for moving or paying off a bill or two, you cant get it tacked on to your school loans. There are ways around this though, a few of us in 2012 got extra.... pm me if you need any more info on that.

Congrats on getting in!

see ya tomorrow night... what time is the meet at oasis?

it was great meeting you tonight...thanks for all the info..... hopefully soon to be a classmate:luck:

Hello again. I was just wondering if someone knows of houses for rent around LMU-DCOM. I'm coming up there this weekend and was hoping to look at some houses for rent while I'm there. Looking to find a house, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!!!

Woot, just got the call and I'm interviewing on Dec 2!

Why do you think it didn't go well?

Well it started off well i guess. She was praising me regarding my personal statement but she asked " did you really write this?" and i was kinda taken aback by that. Interview went ok but I kinda rambled a bit and I might have been talking a bit fast. She kinda cut me off at the end saying she had a patient to go check in on but as we were walking back to the conference room she kinda told me like "take a breath. youre too nervous. practice with someone else. etc etc." it just wasn't encouraging and idk the look on her face seemed to say she wouldnt consider me favorably. I dont know about the other interviewer though.

I originally posted this in the other thread, but I think it's dead so I'm reposting here.

Hi, everybody!

I applied for the class of 2012 and got waitlisted. I would have gotten in if anyone had withdrawn the week for the start or term, or if some one didn't show up to Orientation. But that didn't happen, so now, I've got a seat for the class of 2013. Yay! \o/

I've been reading through the thread and you guys sound like such a great group of people, so now I'm even more excited to have been accepted to DCOM.

I'm going to have lots of questions, I'm sure, but I'll lay low for now, since it's early yet. The biggest concern in my mind is housing, since I have a cat, so I can't live in the university apartments.

What's up guys!
I got an interview on Mon 12/1. Anyone else?

Well I can understand being nervous during that time, and I'm sure that they see their share of nervous applicants. I wouldn't worry about that too much because I've seen people be accepted even though they "bombed" the interview. Keep us updated on your status!

I'm sure Amy's ready to strangle me. I've been emailing her a lot about their receipt of my final letters. But, she hasn't received them yet, despite the fact that they've all been mailed out. Hopefully today. I'm hoping that they'll get there before adcom this week.

Siiigh! I'm so impatient!

Congrats to all of you who have had interviews and those of you who have interviews coming up! Sounds like there will be a good group of people next year! 🙂

Again, anyone hear from 10/20-21 interviews??? 😀

Hey Phenol,

Don't count yourself out just yet. I felt like I bombed my interview last year and was also very nervous (we actually might have even had the same interviewers from the sounds of it! 😉) It seemed like everyone else coming out of their interviews that day were a lot more positive about them, but I ended up getting accepted 2 weeks later while several of the people in my group who told me they had great interviews were not accepted. All of the interview teams have a different style of questioning. Moral of the story, don't dwell on the interview and don't lose hope. It's just one of the many pieces of your application that gets considered. It's great that she liked your Personal Statement! The purpose of the interview is for the faculty to get to know you and for you to get to know the school and find out if it would be a good match. They understand that we're all human and we get nervous so they aren't going to hold that against you (p.s. I think it would be worse if you had gone in there and were really arrogant).

My suggestion is to send a follow-up email (so it gets there in time) to your interviewers and thank them for meeting with you and also take a moment to say whatever you forgot to say or felt you didn't articulate well. If there was something in your application or interview that you think they were particularly stuck on, make sure to address their concerns and offer to answer any further questions they might have. This will also help keep you in their minds when they meet with the admissions committee. If it doesn't work out, it's not the end of the world. You want to find the school that's a best match for you and if it's DCOM you can always apply again next year. Don't get down on yourself though! Good luck! :luck:

Oh and Bob DOES rock! And I just found out he occasionally checks out the forum, so ...

HI BOB! 😀

Received news of interview for December 2...I AM SO EXCITED!!!! This is the school I really want to go to....omg I'm so excited and hope that I am successful in my interview God willing.

I found the idea of the pizza social the night before really cool, and a great way to ease me up! Just curious, for the pizza social, is it fine to dress like informal....khakis and polo? Or is it proper to wear a dress shirt and pants?

YAY! CONGRATULATIONS!!! I hope you love it 😀 Don't dress up for Pizza Night. Definitely just wear jeans or whatever - it's totally casual.

You'll stick out enough in khakis and a polo. 😆

You should check out the LMU-DCOM interview feedback page
http://more.studentdoctor.net/interviewlist.php?school=391

Thats what I used to prepare and I think alot of people do, all my questions were from there. And of course make sure you know what you put on your application, be preparred to talk about your volunteer activities, job, research, etc. And the #1thing, try to relax and be yourself! Good luck!:luck:

I got my official acceptance call from Dr. Stowers today around 12:30 p.m. eastern time today. I am so excited!! I interviewed on October 21. I hope that everyone else that has an interview scheduled with DCOM gets good news. Just be yourself at your interviews. Good luck everyone.

Woot woot, congrats futuresportsdoc!!!

Hopefully I'll hear something soon! I interviewed short notice on the 20th, so they didn't have all of my letters in. Been waiting on that. Blah!

I just wrote an email cancelling my interview for monday November 10th. Hopefully this will open up a spot for someone to interview in my place. Maybe call up and ask the admissions offices if any interview spots have opened up so you can get an earlier interview than you already have. Good Luck everyone!

Hey guys! I have an interview on 11/11 and I will be driving up on the 10th for the pizza night at Oasis. If anyone needs a ride from Knoxville I will be willing to drive if you don't mind riding with a stranger. Just thought I'd help out some of you out-of-staters that are flying in. Just let me know and I'll see you then!

You and the rest of the incoming class of 2013 will need to keep in mind that a LOT of housing will be coming available next summer when the Class of 2011 moves on. Just a thought.

I think you also asked about grants, etc. It all depends on what you want to do. There's HPSP, Military, etc...

Also, there are starting to be some health systems that will pay for your school if you agree to come work for them. Contact the school for details, or talk to some folks where you wanna settle down when you get into practice.

:soexcited:Got my call from Dr. Stowers yesterday evening. Feels so good to finally get in! Good luck to everyone else I interviewed with!

Congrats to everyone getting in!

Congrats to everyone getting in!

Thanks, Jason! I think you're going to become my new best friend when I get up there.

Coffee makes my world go 'round. 🙂

I'm sure I'll have a million questions for everyone when it gets a little closer. Right now, I just want to savor the moment. 🙂
