I recently received an interview date with LMU. Is there anyone out there that has gone through the process and can maybe share his/her interview experience. Can someone hint on what should I expect and the school's atmosphere? This is my first interview so I'm both nervous and excited🙂

Search out the Interview Feedback section for LMU. That truly was the most helpful thing for me in preparing. And don't be nervous- it's an extremely enjoyable interview if you just stay calm and be yourself.

So I was waitlisted here at LMU in February, and after seeing other schools (also being waitlisted), I've really decided that LMU is my first choice. I plan on sending an update of what I've been doing this semester, since I am out of school. What advice does anyone have on what to say? And how should I go about sending it (ie email, mail typed letter,...)? 😕

Does anyone have an interview March 10th at LMU-DCOM? I'm staying at the holiday in and didn't know if any others would be staying there? Thanks! I'm so exicted!

What date did you interview. I am wait-listed too and I interviewed on the 17th....I'm just wondering if anyone interviewed on that date got in....it seems so many people are wait-listed on that date of interview. But I just emailed Janette a letter of interest (which includes an attachment of the letter) and she said that was fine and that she's going to put it in my profile so you can always do that and send in a hard copy if you want. I hope you get in though. Yes, LMU is a neat school and is my top choice right now even after interviewing at several schools all over the country. Good luck and don't give up.

How exciting. You'll definitely enjoy the interview experience. LMU is probably one of the most accommodating and hospitable schools I've interviewed so far and it's pretty out there. It's pretty laid back but don't slack off and still maintain professionalism during the interview process. Have fun definitely and make sure you talk to Bob, he's the nicest and informative tour guide ever. He'll make your nervousness go away. Good luck!

If you go to the Oasis pizza the night before, you'll meet several people who are staying at the same hotel. They also serve great breakfast (free) downstairs.....I didn't know this until I was about to leave for the interview...but Bob will pick you up at around 8:30 AM........enjoy...it's a great hotel and people are great!

Things just keep getting worse. Did any of you that have also been put on the wait list receive any type of confirmation from the school when you emailed within the 14 days your interest in remaining on the list? I hope that makes sense...

Anyway, I sent a message within a few days of receiving the letter my interest in remaining on the wait list. I realized last night that I never heard back from the school (I'm such an IDIOT for not checking up on it...I've never had a problem like this before though)....so I get to checking my email and I check my Sent folder....and there is no such email there.

So now I'm freaking out that they didn't get the email. And now it is past the 14 day requirement! I just sent another email explaining the situation, but I'm just really afraid that it won't matter. I'll be heartbroken if this is what completely knocks me out.

Is ANYONE getting accepted that has interviewed recently?? From what I understood while I was there, the class was not even close to full, so what's the story? Is it just a matter of having to wait on students who have been accepted to respond with a yes or no so they know how many seats they are working with?

Also, sorry if it's been covered, but does anyone know how their waitlist works- is it ranked or done by order of interview? And will they tell you what spot you hold on the list if you do end up on it?

Is anyone interviewing on March 10? Is this really late to be interviewing?? I'm very very very excited to have an interview!!! And I'll definitely be going to the oasis pizza hoopla. Do I still have a good chance at acceptance if I'm OOS and its march? I'd love to go here!! Any advice would be appreciated!

Sailor gal (as well as others interviewing on March 10)-

Me and a friend will be there at Oasis that night to answer any and all of your questions, as well as to help ya'll relax a bit before the big day. I hope everyone comes out to enjoy the evening... It's not the greatest pizza in the world (NY and Chicago have that one covered) ut it is tasty and they have other stuff if you don't want pizza.

I bet most interviewees who are staying at a hotel will be there. Be sure to come to the pizza deal at Oasis the night before - it's a lot of fun and helps you relax a bit

I would write what is generally referred to as a letter of intent. Basically, address it to the Director of Admissions, cc: to your interviewers, that states your intent. FOR ME, this was the only school that I interviewed at, so I told them that. If accepted I would come without a doubt, so I told them that. Basically it is something else that you can send them to express your interest in the school so when they pull out your file again, they'll see that you haven't given up. Obviously, don't write that stuff if it's not true, but you get the picture.

Keep it up... don't get discouraged. It's out of your hands now!

People are getting accepted but then again, people are getting on the wait-list too. Wait-list is not bad, ya'll... think of it (because it really is) a sign of "not yet. I'll say this again for those who didn't read a previous post. I submitted my primary February 2 of last year. I got a call inviting me for an interview March 16. I interviewed April 4, got a wait-list letter May 5, and then practically nothing until June. June 16th was kind of the date when AACOMAS schools start moving a lot from their wait-list - so i got a call then. All that to say, keep your head up.

In a sense, it is a matter of how many acceptances are "accepted" by the student, but at this stage, they don't give out a ton of acceptances unless they are just certain they want that individual. I bet that 1/3 our class was on the wait-list at some point of the year, even if it was earlier in the cycle.

The wait-list, as I understand it, is ranked in tiers (at the least), but also by numbers within those tiers. The tiers are determined by "top choice", not by interview date, so even if you're like me and got a late start on things, if they like you well enough and interviewed the last day possible, you can still get in... (although rmeember, it is always better to apply/interview early. The admissions offices can't tell you where you are on the list, unfortunately

Call the Admissions office and tell them the situation... That's certainly better than not saying anything. Just tell them, and I bet they'll understand...

GraceEuphoria, I think we interviewed on the same day! I hope we hear something soon...!

We did- I can pick out who you were based on your picture because you talked so much about your dog! 🙂 I was across the table from you in the conference room. And I realized today (yesterday? haha) it was only a week since we interviewed, so it seems it might be a while still! 🙁

Jeez 'bamacub... 5 straight posts. Obviously no upcoming tests

you got it... plus, I haven't figured out how to reply to multiple people in one post...

plus Iwant to be like you and have more posts so people will take me seriously:laugh:

Just got an invitation to interview April 6th. Anyone else going to be there?

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll send a letter to Janette and my interviewers this week. I also plan on sending in 1 or 2 additional LoR's regarding my work for the past 2 semesters, so hopefully that will help too.

I would write a letter to your interviewers and mail it. Tell them about what you've been doing since your interview, like working, more shadowing, etc. Clearly state your interest in LMU and that it is your top choice among the other schools you've applied to. Hopefully there will be enough movement on the waitlist for you to get in!

BTW, we interviewed on the same day. I hope you get good news at some point in this cycle. Although I won't be attending LMU, I was very impressed by it and I think it has great potential.

Bioman: Congrats on your acceptances, I'm glad things worked out for you.

I interviewed on Jan 27 but didn't get waitlisted until Feb.

Regarding my leter of intent, should I mention that I've applied to some post baccalaureate programs (Plan B lol)? Or should I just mention the work I've done the past two semesters, as well as what I plan to do in the upcoming weeks/months?

Idk about mentioning the Plan B thing, I'm not sure, maybe someone else can give better input.

I wouldn't recommend mentioning anything about plan b in your letter of intent. Instead, focus on explaining how you stand out from the other people on the waitlist. Explain why you deserve to be accepted. Think about how the school would benefit from you, and vice versa. Also, write about your accomplishments and activities since the interview, and update them on your GPA (if it's changed).

Good luck to those of you waiting to hear from LMU-DCOM 😀

My post count means I am your superior MD 😉.

You should click the button that says Multi-quote. Click as many people as you want to quote using the multi-quote button then on the last person click the regular "Quote" button

Good luck to all those waiting to hear. This is a great place...we all work very hard, but we have lots of fun in between!

yay! Dr. Stowers called me today for acceptance into Class 2013!! I'm so happy!

Congratulations!

I had already decided on DCOM, but had two more interviews this past weekend. They helped affirm my decision that this one will be the best place for me. So I'll see you this fall too!

does LMU send any sort of confirmation that they received your application in the mail?

Yep...an interview 😉.
I don't remember getting a confirmation. If you would like to know they have all of your documents, I would just give admissions a call. Good luck!

Congrats!

I hope this doesn't mean a definite wait-listing for myself since we interviewed the same day! I wish some of our other groups members were on here so I might have a better idea of how many people heard from him...we'll see...

I was in y'alls group. Haven't heard anything but still keeping my fingers crossed. LMU is far and away my top choice.

Thanks for the quick response... I am looking forward to coming to DCOM and maybe you can be on my said yelling roll tide! when they play to vols.. haha.
I have a feeling the sounds of 'Rocky Top' would drown out your yelling.

🙂

Mine too :xf: I am guessing you were from TN based on the name, but I am not sure if I have placed who you were- help me out here!

I suppose I might be slightly negative only because after perusing the posts in here, most of the people who interviewed together got their calls on the same day 🙁

Oh, I understand the negativity. But remember the married 2nd year? Got a call super late and didn't have tons of time to spend looking for housing.

I just have to stay positive. I want this so school badly.

I'm thinking Nysheth is the other UT loving person that was there? But I haven't read enough to place you. 🙁

I was in red and black with blonde curls pinned up.

Haha well I haven't really posted enough for you to place me probably...I was a couple people down from you at Oasis on your left and across the table from you in the conference room. Actually now that I think about it the best way to remember probably is that I was the one that followed your looooong interview 🙂

I know immediate acceptance isn't a closed door. I was just really hoping not to have to hold out any longer than march or april because of trying to make plans for elsewhere is necessary for a masters. I refuse to sit around this next year doing nothing if things don't pan out this fall somewhere. The idea of waiting until june to get pulled off of a waitlist though just makes me want to cry, knowing that classes start at the end of july. I have a cool landlord where i live who agreed to let me pay monthly when my least ends in May, but I would LOVE to be able to tell him how many months that would be, yadda yadda yadda. But who knows- maybe Stowers just didn't get to all the calls.

Hahaha. Yeah. I was just thinking that-maybe he only makes x calls/day. Made me feel better. 🙂

And yeah, my interview was kinda long. It was weird because I didn't realize that while it was going on...

Congrats!

I was in your group too. I was the one on the end by the clock that wasn't on the wall, the side of the table opposite the door... I guess that explains who I am? Anyway, I got a message from the dean today that I have been accepted. I'm going to turn it down though cause I think I would fit in more at AZCOM. Good luck!

Thanks! Good luck to you too! You liked their 'punk rock' approach, I believe?

Yeah. Gotta go with the punk rock.

What did you like about AZCOM vs LMU-DCOM
I just got accepted to LMU and i have an int at AZCOM on the 27th or so... I really liked LMU but i gotta give AZ a fair shake.

I love how everyone is coming out of the woodwork here! Haha, its funny because I know EXACTLY who you are (peachate) based on that description in the room....hope they got that clock back up in its proper place! It's very important while you sit there for however long twiddling your thumbs waiting to get called right?? Well congrats on the acceptances- you just call them in with that decline though and tell them I will happily take that spot 😀

And by the way for anyone who is looking for time frames...
I interviewed 2/23 and the admissions committee didn't meet 2/26 like normal they met 3/4 a week late and I got accepted today.

Congrats to everyone getting in and hang in there to everyone still waiting.
Looking forward to seeing all the new faces this summer/fall.

I think both schools are pretty even. For me it came down to the fact that I prefer being closer to a city. What if I really need to have Vietnamese food one night? I don't think there are any Vietnamese restaurants in Harrogate. LMU is an amazing school and if it were somewhere bigger, it would be my top choice due to the faculty, labs, creepy talking patient dummies, group testing stuff, etc... Definitely check out AZCOM though. It has a great campus, great faculty, and the interview was actually fun. Like a lot of people say on this SDN thing, med school is what you make of it. I don't think there are any bad schools out there, it just comes down to where you think you fit in.

Peachgate, I know exactly who you are too! Just some info: I asked Dr. Stowers if there were any seats open when he called me and he said they keep seats open for good candidates that apply close to the deadline.
Also, Vols I think you were sitting beside me in the conference room and I was the UT fan. I wish you all the best luck, I'm sure he doesn't call all people on the acceptance list.

I will be attending your school next fall and I was wondering if you could tell me just a small description about the typical first semester of medical school there. Also how is the studying going along for the COMLEX with the second years? Does DCOM prep us for the Boards?

Thanks so much in advance guys!
eric.

First off....congrats on your acceptance!!! Check out this link as it shows you the schedule for the first semester. The schedule starts when the last schedule update occured, so you just need to move a couple pages....just use the arrows in acrobat reader. That is the best way to understand the schedule. But in a nutshell....you will be busy.

As for boards, they do teach board material very well. We have a couple profs who do Kaplan COMLEX review, so the experience is there. Also, DCOM provides the 2nd year students Kaplan review materials/classes at no cost. We have access to qbanks, lectures, practice exams, etc. So your boards will be more than covered. But remember, board study begins with your classes 😉.

Welllll, I didn't get a phone call b/c I got to join the group chilling on the waitlist. As sad as I am over it, it just means I'll have to send more papers telling them all about how LMU and me would go so well together.

🙂
