Do you know when the admission committee will be meeting to make their decision...?
Thanks! Did they give you any new statistics regarding how full the class is or how many people got pulled off the waitlist?
I don't know if they told all you interviewees on Monday, but DCOM just got approved to increase next year's class size by ~65 students on account of the new building, increasing residency placements in the area, and increasing faculty size. That should open up a few more spots for people on the waitlist/late interviewers 🙂
i heard 75 students
to 225
Yeah I guess that makes sense. Pre-interview hold right now. MCAT is at the end of the month. What do you think of sending in a letter of intent to let LMU know that I really want to go there? Or should I just wait and send one after my MCAT?
My MCAT was in the low 20's. I was complete by the end of October so yeah, I guess you are right they are waiting for my January MCAT. So with this new addition of seats, they currently haven't filled 50% of the class yet????
I'm not too sure about how I feel regarding this increase in class size. I mean, it's great that more potential students can be accommodated, but I sure hope that DCOM knows how to properly prepare for the surge. If they can, then I welcome this. One things that I appreciated about this school was the smaller, home-y feel to it. I guess we shall see.

I was wait-listed here and I think they should start accepting people from the wait-list as they have more space now🙂
I mean they must have liked us a little at least to put us on a wait-list?
Also, I was looking at AOA residency website and I don't know why they said they increased the residency seats near the school as I only found one residency program affiliated with LMU in Knoxville, TN and then like 1 more program in orthopedic surgery. So maybe the website hasn't updated the new programs but I really hope more residency seats were created as many schools seem to be expanding!
Also, would an update letter be helpful?
...math was never my strong suit haha.😳
What program in Knoxville did you find that is affiliated with LMU? I know that the program in Wellmont, VA is linked with us now for ortho, but I wasn't aware of another one. Also, programs are opening up here and there in the general Appalachain region, which is where a lot of our students end up wanting to practice, due to family being close to that. I am just one of those that blindly accepts that it will all work out- of course we need to voice our opinions as schools keep opening, but it's happening slowly but surely. I read of a new psych program in plans for 2012 at one of the residencies I've been researching and with every few programs I examine, I find the same thing.I was wait-listed here and I think they should start accepting people from the wait-list as they have more space now🙂

Really?! That's fantastic! We must just be that awesome that they want to draw us in that way 🙂 Do you happen to have any idea what program they were looking to open?An update letter would definitely be helpful 🙂. Also, I think the school is working with hospitals in the area to create new residencies, but they aren't set in stone just yet. If the increase in class size is for the class of 2016, then theoretically they would have until then to work out the details. I know our core site in Cookeville is trying to set up a residency after having our students rotate through there in the past couple years.
Hmm, ok, I'm going to approach this as nicely as possible lol. First, these questions are kind of a crapshoot, let's be honest. I mean for the one thing you can say about DCOM that you love, at least 5 other schools out there probably offer that very thing. So in reality, that question is really hard to answer with a fully justified answer. On the other hand, without this coming across poorly, if you can't muster up a genuine letter of intent, you might re-examine your interest in the program. Asking other people what to write in these letters, with regard to your passion about the program, is not a good sign exactly. I don't mean to be negative, but I just think something like this should really come from YOU. I assure you, the adcom can see through it otherwise. 🙂 Maybe spend some time researching and dig deep to figure out what you like about the school. Read my blog if you need inspiration 🙂So I'm trying to type up a letter of intent, but I'm having a hard time finding what makes LMUDCOM unique or different from the other schools- so any of ya have any suggestions or facts that I'm overlooking? Thanks!
I know that the program in Wellmont, VA
DCOM just recieved approval to increase the class size to 225 for the class of 2016You were actually right anyway - our class size was supposed to be 150 according to everything I'd seen up to this point. They were 160 for all the other classes though - not sure why they intended to drop it by 10.

No offense taken- that did help. Thank you for your honesty; however, where's your blog? I do want to take a glimpse at it.
Anyone else get an accepted letter today? I got mine this morning!
Got mine this afternoon! I still can't believe this is real....
I JUST got off the phone a while ago with someone from admissions and I got invited for an interview. Considering my GPA/MCAT, to say I'm surprised would be an understatement but I am SO RIDICULOUSLY excited / happy that I made it this far that I'm literally shaking.
That being said, is LMU-DCOM one of those schools where if they give you an interview they really do like you? Or are they giving interviews pretty liberally?
Thanks and congrats on all the acceptances! 🙂
Congrats! When do you interview?

Bahaha....just check the time I posted...it's reaching my peak, I'm still awake but I'm about to get very, veeeeery sleeeeeeeeepy 😴 Haha, yes, it's Wellmont Health System we're affiliated with...I think what I was thinking of is the Family med program we have in the Norton area. I know for sure this exists because one of the 2011 grads was back at Hospital Day (where the rotation sites and many residency sites from all over the country come and chat with students) and we talked about his experiences there. That's truly what thought process was going through my brain I swear!! 😀This made me chuckle! 😀 The hospital is in Kingsport, TN (Holston Valley Medical Center) and it's part of the Wellmont Health System!
Dude. Totally thought you were another first year. Now I know the real truth. Either that or another first year lives your life identically...The only reason I know is my dad works there, and is on the committee that is trying to start it...but I have no idea how far along in the process they are. I think it might just be an FP program for now, but I think once one is set up it will be easier to get other types of programs to pop up there. All I know is that Cookeville is really loving our students. My dad is a radiologist and literally thought DOs weren't doctors until he started being a preceptor for LMU. I think the term he used when he told me I had to apply here was, "these students are brilliant".
I see you got directed to the blog already 🙂 I'm glad my words came across alright. I just always like to see the people coming here have that undying enthusiasm that can be, well, somewhat overbearing at times. It creates an energy here that I really love. So dig deep and see what you think...if you have other options, maybe LMU isn't the best fit. I happen to think we're the best in the nation, but, well...I guess we'll have to graduate a few more classes before people really start believing it as much as I do, but you see what I'm getting at with this infectious enthusiasm right?? 🙂No offense taken- that did help. Thank you for your honesty; however, where's your blog? I do want to take a glimpse at it.
Test day indeed. Brain=fried. So fried that I keep typing "friend" for "fried" and may actually be asleep before midnight! I do hope to be updating as much as possible on that thing...by rules of the university, I need to post once a week minimally. If there's anything anyone would like to hear about, please let me know somehow!! The more I run dry on med school related material, the more I ramble on about life and other topics that, well...I can get a little animated in with my writing. I'm supposed to keep it somewhat focused 😉It's test day tomorrow so in case she isn't able to check this: http://lmudcomheather.wordpress.com/
That's her blog!
I felt the same way when LMU offered me an invite (terribly unworthy numbers wise), but have faith....an interview is a GOOD SIGN. With class increase, you have a great shot if your LORs are solid and your personal statement and all that is in line. Now just rock out the interview! Don't be like me and have to interview twice because you were so freaking nervous the first time around. Walk in confident- you have every right to be if they offered you the shot at a seat!I JUST got off the phone a while ago with someone from admissions and I got invited for an interview. Congratulations! When were you complete? I'm just trying to figure out when I should be hearing back from them.. (if I do that is). Thanks!
Well best fortune! I really wish you the best![]()
Traditionally roughly 50% of interviewees seem to be accepted. Most of us believe that DCOM grants interviews to students that they feel are completely capable of succeeding based on numbers alone. That is to say they have reviewed your file and feel like you're capable of completing medical school academically.
The interview, on the other hand, seems to be more about determining who you are as a person socially. Will you fit in with the school? Are you nice or do you come off as a stand-offish person? Can you carry on a conversation with complete strangers? Etc.
To add to that, you are going to be interviewing at a time when there are 75 additional seats available. I would believe this increases everyone's chances of acceptance for the rest of the cycle.
Tl;dr version: No liberal interviews, you've been chosen because they feel you're qualified and want to learn more about you as a person.
Received the acceptance letter yesterday! Crazy stoked about the future and to all those still waiting.....keep your head up and stick with it, good things will happen. I am the underdog's underdog and I made it so, stay positive. LMU-DCOM Class of 2016!
No I interview the 31st! Really excited. Like you, I'm not getting my hopes up, but it would be Amazing if it did happen.
