Is there a fb page for the 2016 class

i got a waitlist letter after my interview, then a call from the dean last night. interviewed 12/06... really hoping they didn't make a mistake with the phone call!

I interviewed on 12/14/11 & received an acceptance call on 12/16/2011… I was standing in line @ the bank when I answered the phone. I SCREAMED sooooooo loud that security escorted me out of the building… I informed them what just happened and they laughed and let me back inside… everybody in the bank congratulated me @ said happy holidays ….etc….. I called everyone I knew and some people I didn’t know….

I am soooooooooooooooooo happy! I have worked so hard to get to this point in my life and now I am prepared to work even harder next fall. Did anyone else from 12/14 get a call? I hope so….

I will see everyone in the FALL!!!

If they did make a mistake...oops in your favor huh?? I wouldn't sweat it...the letter of acceptance should be in the mail and if you don't see it by the new year, you could always call just to check to see if there's any "paperwork" you're missing 😉

That's a GREAT acceptance call story!! Almost as good as my interview suit story (anybody been following fall of 2009 would recall this story....it's truly too good to be forgotten lol). Congrats!

10 days is standard so don't worry!! Also, with the holiday break approaching for staff and faculty, that call may not happen for this batch of interviewees. Good luck! :luck:

I hope! Has anyone been accepted without a phone call? I'm nervous because Hydro interviewed the day after I did

what % of the class has been filled up? how many spots do they usually have?

I'm not sure but I bet we get our letters tomorrow or wednesday at the latest. I interviewed 12/13 and haven't heard anything..

Hey man, I didn't even put your screen name and you together at the interview. I'm the guy from KY that sat across from you. Hope we hear something soon, congrats on WCU man!

Congradulations on those who matriculated, and good luck to those who are waiting!
I am interviewing at DCOM in Jan. What questions came up during you guys' interview?

I'm on the waitlist here, still waiting to hear back. I have to say though that I'm a bit apprehensive about this school. My cousin went here for the nursing program and failed whatever board examination they have. 45 nursing students started out...only 10 made it to the point of taking the exam, of which 8 passed... She was kicked out afterwards and not allowed to re-apply, with 20k in loans hanging over her from this school.

What is the attrition rate at LMU for the D.O. program? What about pass rates on the COMLEX/USMLE?

Just found out they put me on hold ..ugh 🙁

My buddy who is a second year told me that he thinks they've lost ~8 people over the first year and a half. They were due to a mix of: this is not for me, health problems, those who stepped back into the next year's class because they failed a section, and those who just couldn't do it. I think you're going to see some of that no matter where you go.

Pass rates were posted somewhere in this thread previously. They're very good. I don't doubt that the nursing program has a high attrition rate but I do doubt that it's 78%. I'm sure your friend had to be exaggerating.

I got the letter

Hang in there... there has already been some waitlist movement. A couple of people in the Facebook group said they were accepted off of it last week.

He is correct. I know of at least a couple of people including myself. I was waitlisted and then taken off the list two weeks later. From my knowledge, it depended on when you interviewed for the most part as to weather you had a greater chance of being waitlisted (based on getting the deposits and such). They started looking beginning of December.

The nursing program is totally separate from the DO program here. The nursing students are actually part of the undergraduate school, while we are a graduate program. They literally have nothing to do with each other, so I wouldn't try and compare the 2. I am a first year, and I think we have only lost 2 people since the beginning of the year...1 left because they decided they wanted to go to dental school instead, and I think the other is coming back in next year's class....and usually the first semester is when you lose the most people I would say.

Honestly, as opposed to the nursing program, which it sounds like is a weed out type of program (I honestly know nothing about it because we never come in contact with them... except maybe in the elevator or parking lot) the DO program really wants you to succeed. I struggled at the beginning of the year, and right away after doing poorly on the first test my advisor set up a meeting with me and we both worked together on fixing the problem. I got a tutor (who was amazing) and I did fine the rest of the semester. Really, it seems like they will do everything they possibly can to help you. It doesn't look good for a new school to have people dropping/failing out or not getting good residencies so if for no other reason than their own reputation (not that I'm saying this is the case...I think they genuinely care about every student) I think they would try and help everyone that isn't doing well. I have gone to almost every one of my professors asking for help/going in to see what I was doing wrong etc and have had a tremendously positive experience interacting with them.

I don't really know much about the pass rate for the COMLEX, but I haven't heard many complaints (or any really) in that department. They have been tweaking the curriculum a bit because of feedback from the upperclassmen on things they thought they were weak on when it came to the COMLEX and the school has been incredibly receptive to that feedback (they are always pretty receptive to feedback from the students in my experience). We even have a COMLEX review at the end of next semester, just to keep us ahead of the game for next year. I also used the First Aid for USMLE book throughout the semester, and our professors are definitely emphasizing the same things the book emphasizes, which to me is a good sign.

I am sorry that your cousin had a bad experience with LMU, but the DO program at DCOM is a whole different thing, and I wouldn't want others to be influenced by the bad outcome of the nursing program. Just wanted to give you some insight from a current student 🙂

Relax! If it's meant to be, it's meant to be. It's still early so just hope for the best. 👍

Good luck to everyone who interviewed today! I hope you get the call tonight! And it was nice meeting some of you at pizza night.
If anybody has any questions or concerns about the school, feel free to pm me or one of the other DCOMers. Happy Holidays!

The DO and PA students are both in the DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, the nursing students are in the Caylor School of Nursing. The nursing students don't even talk to the DO students. They come in and disappear onto the third floor. When the new building is finished, their program will move and the entire DCOM building will be used by DCOM, adding space for more faculty offices and more classrooms if they need.

I do know they aren't allowed to fail anything or they're out. DCOM isn't like that at all.

Way to make a cameo appearance Mr. OrangeRoost.:highfive:

does anyone know how full the class is right now and how many acceptances have been offered?

As for the questions about how full the class is...most of the time what gets posted after inquiring in admissions is that the class is around half full by the holiday break. Just remember, that can always change depending on the applicant pool and how many students had DCOM as their first choice.

Moral of the story- there are still PLENTY of seats left. For those on the waitlist, don't lose heart. Keep in touch with admissions regarding your application....keep them updating on new things. With that said, pursue anything that can improve your application. SHOW THEM YOU CARE!! 🙂

I'm going to go ahead and be up front about this....we've lost a decent number. We've had at least 5 decide they didn't want it that badly. We lost 3 or so for health issues. As far as people joining the next class (2015), I can think of 2-3 (meaning they get to carry on but they struggled with courses along the way). As for totally failing out, I can think of 3-5 and of those, several were "repeats" that joined our class from 2013 and didn't make it. Point being, that yes, the numbers look bad to people, but the large majority of "lost" people either withdraw on their own accord, had health/personal issues or struggled, but the school does what they can to make sure you do what you need to do to get through. Some might judge the program's quality or the applicant quality, but I truly don't see this as being the case. This is NOT an easy program, I assure you lol. You are NOT getting cheated by attending here. And as far as applicants, I think there IS something to be said that my class was the first of those admitted after closed file interviews, but I respect DCOM for choosing to do it this way and with years experience, they will master this process in my opinion. Any questions on specifics of all this, feel free to shoot them my way. I'm extremely proud of my school and will not hide/fudge the truth about what goes on here....it is what it is and you should know what you get yourself into in advance.

Good luck to all those interviewing in January and happy holidays to everyone!!

If you can give me a more specific idea of what you're looking for, we might be able to answer better...

Based on the post, though, I will say that the majority of people that come here describe the atmosphere as a family type atmosphere. I truly believe we have some of the most caring, committed faculty and staff you'll ever find. From offering their house up for get togethers (or a laundry facility during one of the inevitable water issues in Harrogate lol) to encouraging emails pre and post finals...from spending hours and hours (starting in the wee hours of the morning) smoking BBQ for White Coat events to stopping by post exam parties to drop off wine & cheese (and yes, we love them enough we WANT them to stop by!)...and from attending every club event possible to letting you sit in their offices for hours on end hashing through struggles or old exams....they seriously rule. I've never felt so surrounded by mentors that are dying to see me succeed as much as I have here. Same goes for faculty and staff...they do anything they can to make your day easier. The support here is unreal.

The region is....unique. I've grown to appreciate it for its quirkiness. Training in a region like Appalachia will certainly shape and mold you as a person, for the better in my opinion. If you've never lived the rural life, you're in a for a treat and surprise 🙂 I know I was nervous about it, but I wouldn't change a thing honestly.

This thread is dead quiet - is anyone interviewing soon?

Hi all! Hopefully current DCOM students will see this post:

I know it's relatively early, but where I can find available housing around the Harrogate area, including Middlesboro (aside from the University Inn)? Or who can I contact for more information? I know current DCOM students usually list their houses for rent in March/April but if any of you guys have advance info/insight about this, please let me know or PM me since I plan to visit TN again to get acquainted with the area. Thanks in advance!

yea...i think most of the class and schools rosters are set...

counting down the days for sure!

I think you're pretty wrong about that...they said at my interview today that the class might be half full...

My advice for people who are about to interview, depending on who you have, be prepared to talk yourself up with very vague questions like "tell me about yourself" I liked the idea of a closed file interview, but afterward, I wished they at least knew something about me to direct the conversation.
