Hi everyone,

I am looking for a UPDATED list of DO schools that do not require a DO letter. I have an MD letter, but do not have a DO letter. Even something from 2014 is fine. Could anyone help me out?

Thank you!

edit: Looking for a list, topic title messed up -.- sorry

MD letter is fine i got interview from Touro COM and NYCOM with justMD letter

While somewhat off topic I want to highly recommend you and all osteopathic applicants to find a DO to shadow and obtain a letter from before your first interview. There really is no better way of answering why DO than to have real experiences and than to have a practicing osteopathic physician essentially validate said experiences to the ADCOMS at your school.

I completely understand it is quite advantageous to get this DO shadowing and letter. However, with the applications opening and only having about 3 weeks until I submit (submitting very early), it is very unlikely I will find one and establish a good enough relationship in order to get a letter, AND give this DO time to write the letter. I am emailing a potential opportunity through a friend as we speak, so I haven't given up, but most likely I will NOT have a DO letter and this is why I am looking for this letter. Thank you for the advice however.

I got a DO Lor after I submitted my primary. Like I said, mainly get it before your first interview. That gives you a few months tbh.

Obviously I understand the point of this thread. I'm mostly just trying to communicate this point because I do feel it is an important part of the application.

Oh awesome! Very good point, I did not think of that. I will definitely push for finding this opportunity before my interview. Thank you!

Accepted to KCOM and no DO letter. However I did shadow a DO for about 15 hrs and extensively read about the history of osteopathic medicine.

Also I sincerely was interested in how individual schools curriculums could help me become a well-rounded, well-prepared physician. For example KCOM's complete DOctor course, interesting humanities-style elective courses, both ultrasound and dissection to learn anatomy, standardized patients, simulation labs, research opportunities, etc. I think "why this school in particular?" is just as important as "why DO?"

Why, if I may ask, did you not get the letter after shadowing the DO?

PCOM and NOVA do not require DO letters in addition to the schools already mentioned

-I only spent about 15 hrs watching him treat patients so he really didn't get to know me at all
-I aready had a physician letter, from an MD I did research for
-The DO I shadowed is a busy man and I didn't want to add to his workload unnecessarily

fair enough. You made it anyways so props to you

I received three acceptances without a DO letter before withdrawing my app from other schools. I did, however, have a really strong MD letter and experience as an employee at a DO school. If you have a strong app with a physician letter, good experience, and can demonstrate commitment to becoming a DO, it shouldn't be a problem.

I also recall reading somewhere that some schools that do require DO letters/shadowing will allow you to submit them after acceptance but before matriculation if they like your app/secondary/interview enough . . .but don't quote me on that. Does anyone remember where I may have come across that information?

I think I remember reading something similar in the LECOM-B interview thread. After the interview the school set up the applicant with a DO to interview or something like that
