If I don't plan to apply to DO schools until next year, is it acceptable to obtain letters of recommendations now? I want to ask my current professors while they still remember my work in their classes.

I am thinking of asking for the letters now and having them stored at Interfolio. Will this be viewed negatively because they will be almost a year old by the time I apply?

Not at all.

What I did was get my profs to write the letters and then I held onto a copy. I then went back later when I was ready to apply, talked with them and showed them the letter they wrote me. Each one of them was more than happy to update the letter and include things that I had done since my class with them, making it an overall better LOR>

If you feel comfortable enough with a prof to ask for a LOR and they feel comfortable enough writing it, then staying in touch with them shouldnt be difficult.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks. But I thought it was better to waive access to the letters? In other words, shouldn't the student not have access to the LORs that the professors wrote?

My professors all gave copies to me. I guess it depends on how the system works at your school.
