Hi guys,
I am new to SDN. I just want to tell my story about how I got my very first LoR. I am a sophomore at a decent state university. Today, our provost (think COO, CFO in a company if you don't know what a provost does, all the deans report to him) offered to write me a LoR. I was so surprised. I was involved in a seed funding program under the Provost's Office that I only got into because I was looking for some project management skills. The experience was great, but I never expected something like this. I am planning to ask my lab PI (science faculty) to write me another letter, as I will be working with him over the summer.
My tip for getting a LoR would be to try out things you like to do, whether it is volunteering, shadowing, doing research or something else. You will gain valuable experience and meet new people. If you really put in the effort, your supervisor/employer will notice, and if they are nice enough, they will write you a LoR. You don't lose anything if they don't. Just be nice. They will help you out in some other ways later on. Having that network of people is just helpful in general.
Hopefully that helps. Just wanted to share my story 🙂
