I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I completed a rotation both last month and the month before last in nephrology and critical care respectively. In both situations I worked directly with the attendings in initial case work up, dx, tx strategies. We discussed everything, i actively participated in everything and received positive feedback from both of them stating that I was doing an excellent job ect, ect. They also had no suggestions as to what I could do to get better or what I had to improve on.

Then when I get my evaluations neither of them gave me an honors pass. Should I be concerned about this especially since I asked both of them to write me a LOR, and by their comments on my evaluation I'm not as confident in what they might say.

Some/Any guidance appreciated!!

well you don't have to use them but they are good to have in case something better doesn't come along. plus i'm sure there are lots of students who don't have honors from all the ppl writing their lor's. most students are average after all.

When asked to fill out evaluation forms, some people just don't give honors! I wouldn't worry about it too much. Most likely they will write about the things they discussed with you. Sounds like they thought you were a good student!

You can always make sure to ask "would you be able to write me a strong LOR."

I wouldn't worry about not getting an honors at all. I'm getting a couple of recs from clerkship directors where I did not honor the rotation. You have to understand that you can be a really good student, but in the eyes of some in the medical field, you have to get pretty close to God-like perfection to get that honors. Most of the time it's nothing personal (assuming they didn't write anything bad in your eval, you can also assume they wouldn't write anything bad in your LOR).

It sounds like they liked you, and they've agreed to write you a letter, so you should be fine. Try to honor a rotation later and get a LOR from an attending in that field as well, and that will make you seem even more outstanding. 🙂

Thanks for all the feedback. This kinda hit me off guard cause i just knew I would get honors in those two...anyway I won't worry about it!
