I am currently deciding on wheter to continue pursuing dentistry or change to podiatry. I recently took the DAT, but did not perform as well as I hoped I would. Here are my stats:

I undestand that most of you all are not adcoms, but based on your experience, would I be competitive at any of the schools which accept DAT scores? I know my DAT scores are low, but I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

Highly doubt it. You'll most likely need to retake the DAT, from what I've heard you need at least a 17AA.

I would take the MCAT. The DAT will severely limit your school choices, i.e. -

Solid GPA + low DAT = limited limites school choices
Solid GPA + average or high DAT = limited school choices
Solid GPA + solid MCAT = unlimited choices

If you are going to retake a test, take the MCAT and open your choices up.

I was told Temple didn't accept anyone with 16 or below last year and was told the same would follow for this year.

I recommend that you take the MCAT and see how you compare with other medical school applicants before you make any decision.

I mean, your stats look great but the DAT thing is making me wonder what's going on.

That makes two of us... I am not going to try and make excuses for why I got that DAT score... it's horrible. However, it is not indicative of my knowledge of the prerequisites, and I will either retake the MCAT (if I decide podiatry or medicine) or the DAT (if I remain in dentistry) and prove that. Either way, I have re-studying to do. I plan on finishing up physics, and then taking some time off to spend with my wife and get my mind right. I want to make sure I have elimated all thoughts of other professions prior to entering my chosen path.

I would like to thank you all for schooling me on the field of podiatry and what it has to offer. Again, I am NOT trying to enter podiatry as a backup to dentistry... I am interested in it based on its own merits. I will be shadowing a podiatrist soon to see first-hand what the field entails. Even if I ultimately decided to remain in dentistry, or do medicine, I have gained an new-found respect for the field of podiatry. Good luck to everyone on their future endeavors. 😎

how do you have a 3.8gpa sold gpa imo and get a such a low dats??
i mean you obviously have the brains, maybe you just didnt study hard enough for the dats.. retake it, i mean you already know how the test is going to be and you have a feel for it, just retake it and try to get 17+ on all

I would agree if you want to be a dentist. But if you want to be a podiatrist take the MCAT.
