Hi,
I am applying to dental school this cycle. I just finished my 2nd DAT Sept 2nd, sent in scores to all schools emailed/updated. New DAT score PAT:24 AA:22 TS:21. My science gpa~2.81, GPA normal: 3.2 - thoughts on getting into dental school this cycle? I've applied to Tufts NYU BU UofP Midwestern IL, UIC, a couple others....really interested in NYU.

Last year I took a couple science courses biochem 1,2, microbiology and maintained a 4.0 in those. I have volunteer experience, dental background, and working as an intern (full time dental assistant) in a dental office...I'm aware my GPA is low, thoughts on how to get into NYU or how to improve my chances!

My Original DAT (1st) scores were PAT:19, AA:19 TS:19

sGPA is too low I think...

but you have good DAT score and decent ECs and sounds like you have an upward trend of your overall GPA.

Just apply and take your chance!

No one will tell you the black or white answer you wanted to hear. Apply and have a faith and you will get in. Though GPA is really important, it is not the only thing that determines your outcome.

I think you will have a tough time, and I speak from personal experience. I think the best thing you can do is try to do something to really stand out, really commit to doing a lot of volunteering, etc...It has gotten quite competitive in the last few cycles and most schools have lots of people with 3.4+ uGPAs to pick from. Good luck!

I think you should apply. Some schools will take students with high DAT scores regardless of GPA, and you are showing an upward trend in science classes. You should apply to Columbia. They like high DAT scores.
