I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about how/when Loyola interviews are being handed out? So far, it looks like only one person on SDN has a Loyola interview (go Phoenix!). I am really hoping for an interview there and was just wondering how the process works, or if it might be helpful to send a LOI, though I know it's still pretty early. Thanks!

If I recall correctly, Loyola has the most irritating secondary in the entire world with thousands and millions of inane questions. I think it's some kind of endurance challenge to see if you can handle the grueling marathon that is medical school.

Misty! Where you been, son?

Here are some threads that might help a little. It sounds like they do re-review some applicants several times before sending them an invite. And they only interview 2-5 people per interview day (or at least I think that's what jbrice said in one or two of these threads). Maybe jbrice (Loyola expert) will weigh in on this. Here are the threads:

I think that might be Rush's secondary you're remembering....

interview season starts here officially this week (i'm a tour guide, and i'm giving my first tour this week).

and roo, i believe phoenix is right - it sounds like you're thinking about the rush secondary.

haha, i didn't even see that i was mentioned in this thread...

Do you think the nice lady at Loyola would hate me if I called back every Thursday until I knew something? I am really quick and sweet on the phone, I just ask, and accept her answer, no extra questions. I just really would love to go there, and I kind of thought I would have heard something by now (perhaps that is ridiculous given that I was only complete the last week of August, but she said I was under review last Thursday, and once someone is reading my application, how long can it take? So I figure either they are still reviewing, or I am not getting an interview right now).

It just makes me feel like I have a tiny bit of control if I can call since so many schools refuse to answer any questions...

i called them last week, found out that i was put in the pool for "possible interviews," and he told me that it was very common that they do that...but it's probably just a pre-interview hold..=(

I've been complete there for a month and a half... I heard that Loyola gives out interviews VERY slowly compared to other schools. A current student posted that recently.

Have you called to check your status? Are they still reviewing you, or do you have a pre-interview hold (which, I think, at Loyola is a more promising hold than at most places)?

No, I didn't call them yet. I'm not really that worried about it, I'm sure they'll get around to my file when they get to it. I am more curious about when Wisconsin is going to start interviewing people, though.

I was told the same, but I wouldn't get down about it. I believe her. I've read here and heard from other friends [including some Stritch students] that they invite VERY small groups at once. You'll notice the Loyola interview category only has one SDN'er in it. Give it time.

i called loyola and they told me that my file has been reviewed and will be reviewed again sometime between now and november. what exactly does this mean?🙁

I called and got the same response as myd....not really sure what it means though

I just called and got the "they are going to look at your file again between now and end of October". Is that different from possible interview pool/pre-interview hold? It seems to me that they are all the same thing.

I called in and I was "flagged for further review," probably a pre-interview hold. Anyone else get this?

Darn you jbrice.. you beat me to the answer... again.

Yeah. Everything he said is right.

Still 'under review,' she said to call back in two weeks if I haven't heard anything...but that seems weird to me, because they don't email you to tell you that you have been flagged, so the only way I would hear anything is if I were lucky enough to get an interview...anyone know how often their adcom meets?

I just called to check my status a couple of days ago, and the woman said that I would continue to be reviewed from "now until December." She didn't explicitly say that I was flagged, and when I asked her to repeat, she never used the word "flag" nor told me to call back in a month if I haven't heard from anything. However, I'm assuming I've been flagged...hmmm

thats a little better than my most recent status update, i.e., "re-reviewed b/w now and the first of the year"

i refuse to remain loyola's unrequited love!!!!!!!

Hey all Loyola peeps...

I don't know how much this helps, but I interviewed there on Oct. 2nd. And yes, they have very small interview groups, at least that was my experience as the only one interviewing that day. I talked to the admissions lady throughout the day there (who was very nice by the way) and she was explaining to me that they have had a huge surge in applicants this year and they were already at like 5,500. She also said that the committee would decide on me next week because they're adcom meets sometime then, so maybe some of you will get invites next week. Also, I wouldn't look for the invite in your email, they called me to let me know. Anyways, good luck to everyone

anyone hear anything else from Loyola? My app hasn't even been reviewed yet last time I checked 🙁 (i was complete 9/20ish)

i was complete at the end of august. i called a couple weeks ago and was told i've been "flagged for furthur review" and to "call back in a month to month-and-a-half if i haven't heard anything."

i'm not sure which is better: being flagged for furthur review or being told you're going to be re-reviewed b/w now and some time in the future. they both sound like holds to me. although, being "flagged" sounds more immediate, like "look at this application!" so maybe it could be a good sign...or maybe i'm just being too optimistic.

I think those are two ways of saying the exact same thing.

I'm still waiting to hear from Loyola too... I've been complete for a month, so I'm crossing my fingers for a phone call in the next few weeks... I'm all the most nervous since it's really the only school I want to go to!!!

I hope all of us get interviews--that 5,500 applicants having applied already makes me a bit nervous, seeing as only about 4,700 applied last year.

I have a question for jbrice or floptomist--would you guys recommend waiting until after an interview to send a letter of intent, or do you think it would be helpful to send one before you get an interview (in hopes of increasing your chances at getting one)? If it would help I'd really like to send one now, I just don't want to annoy the poor admissions people who I'm sure are getting innundated with questions, etc. And I always have the impression you send a LOI after the interview, but I heard otherwise from some other people recently. What do you guys think?

I'm not jbrice or flopotomist, but after reading what you wrote and your mdapps, I say go for it. Especially since you know this is THE school you want to go to, and you almost even only applied to Loyola and no other school! If I were you I'd write a letter that blew them away with what a great fit I'd be, what I love about Loyola and how enthusiastic I was. But that's just me. Let's see what jbrice and flopotomist say. I just can't see how writing that letter would negatively impact your application in any way. I really hope you get an interview and get in! Maybe we'll be classmates next year! :luck:

Thanks for you recommendation Phoenix--and congrats on your Loyola acceptance! I sure wish I could have had one of those this early!

I think I'll call the office tomorrow and check my status, and cross my fingers that they'll be able to say something like "oh, someone should be calling you to schedule and interview," since I'ver heard that sometimes people get that kind of message when they call. And in the more likely event that I'm still under review, I'll probably start writing up a letter of intent this weekend.

Lol... I guess it's not so much that I almost even applied only to Loyola... but I actually decided not to complete any of my other secondary application. So I really am applying only to Loyola. Which unfortunately adds a lot of stress! But if I get that interview call I'll be that much more happier! (I'd wear and ear-to-ear grin for at least a month!)

I'd say send the LOI. It can only help. And the poor admissions staff is swamped this year. Rumor is that we are already up to around 8,900 primaries submitted so far, and we still have a bunch of time left for the last minute surge.

I got a letter from Loyola today, single page...

turned out I forgot to send in one of my letters I had listed and basically wasted a month. 🙁 Gotta call tomorrow

Misty! Where you been, son?

The key to getting Loyola's Secondary done without pain is to be under pressure. I got the secondary one business day before the deadline due to the secondary arriving at my old apartment three weeks after they sent it (thanks USPS). I moved before it arrived, so then I had to wait for my sister to forward it. She didn't realize it was important mail, so she held on to it for another week before sending it. It's amazing how quickly answers to those questions come when you only have an evening to work on it.

I just called them today for my status check and the told me that I have been "flagged for further review." I asked the guy what this meant and he said, "It means they saw something in your application that they liked and they are going to continue to look at it. If you don't here something from us in a month, give a call." So, to me, this does not sound like a pre-interview "hold" but more like you have passed one or more of their preliiminary screens and are "in a pool of applicants that may be interviewed".

That's what they told me today as well

so i just called too and was told being "flagged" and being "under/re- review b/w now and xx date" are the same thing. i also asked if anyone has been rejected post-secondary and he said that no one will be rejected before the end of the year.

so i will continue to cry silently to myself until i hear from loyola 🙁

Haven't people posted on here that they have been reviewed and will be looked at again in January? I know I saw that somewhere. I really get the impression Loyola takes their time, especially when you look at the invites and acceptances threads. Last I looked there were two invites and one acceptance. Don't fret, Misty, your time will come!

I got the "flagged for further review" as well, and to call back in a month and half or so if I don't hear from them by then. The admissions guy said that while they do give out some immediate interviews, it's very common for people to be flagged for further review.

I decided I'm going to send a letter of intent in the next week. Hopefully it will help!

but...but...i love loyola! 🙂

brent, i am really rooting for you especially. even though you are my competition its cool to see someone who definitely knows what school they want to attend and are going for it full force. good luck w/the loi!!

so if no one gets rejected until the end of the year does that mean everyone gets the "flagged for further review" etc response? 😕 or has anyone heard anything different?

good luck to everyone!! seems like there's a lot of loyola love out there 😍 is anyone else catholic too? 🙂

any news on anyone being invited for interview after they were "flagged for further review" ???

I don't know the answer to your first question, though I've heard of people being told they would be reviewed again in January, etc. But that person might have been calling in Decemeber...

Good luck to you too!

I'm Catholic too--I went to Santa Clara University in CA, and they have me hooked on Jesuit education... Lol... I think I had one class with a Jesuit, and that was drawing!

to my knowledge, there are pre-secondary rejections, but i believe that everyone who makes the cut to get a secondary is reviewed until the end of the application cycle. but, as several people have mentioned, there are plenty of people at loyola who suffered through several months of re-reviews and ended up with an interview and an acceptance.

Phoenix...did you already get into loyola? I just got in yesterday and it was glorious! Hope all you other guys eventually get in...am I the only non-jesuit loyola peep out there?

CONGRATS!!! Yes, I got my acceptance letter last Thursday - a TRULY glorious feeling!!! I did my post-bac year at Loyola's undergrad, and that was my first jesuit experience, but I don't think any jesuit experience or interest is necessary to go to Loyola and love it. 😍
