Good luck to all waiting in limbo. Barring any postal glitches, the accepted applicants in or near New Orleans should begin receiving letters today. The unlucky ones will see their letters later this week or early next week. The med school admission process is the most drwan-out, wretched, and damning experience that I would not curse upon anyone.

I'm in Baton Rouge and I didn't get anything today in the mail. I hope that isn't a bad sign. Homealone, how do you know all of these specific details regarding the committee?
 
I remember when I was always waiting for responses from LSU-NO. I ALWAYS got my letters on Thursdays. Good luck fellas.
 
my mailbox was empty today, but nellish brings up a good point -- my letters have always come on thursdays as well! anyway, anyone else hear anything?!?! i'm going to be nervous tomorrow b/c i think it will be the day!! (i hope!!!!)

okay - here is some news -- i just called the admissions office b/c i wanted to make sure that they recieved my LOI and actually put in in my folder last week. Anyway, i asked about when the committee was meeting and when i could expect to hear -- she said i should get a letter by mail today, tomorrow, or saturday!!!! so, keep on checking everyone!

(in addition, i asked if she knew my status b/c if i got waitlisted or declined, i wanted to make an appointment with dr. eubanks or dr. McCluggage...she said she wasn't at liberty to discuss my application, but i may want to wait until i get my letter to then decide if i wanted to make an appointment....does that mean anything? am i over analyzing it???? oh, i hope tomorrow comes soon!!!!!!!!)

That sounds like a good sign to me -- that they told you to wait for your appt. You never know though, the secretary might tell everyone that.
I'm graduating tomorrow, but I think I will call in the morning and see what they tell me.
oh yeah, I didn't get a letter today either.

Hopefully this anxiety will end soon.

Anyone planning to take the MCAT in August if they don't get in? I think I probably will. Yuck. I'm not looking forward to that.

about the MCAT - i won't take it again since i'm pretty happy with my score (i actually teach the class for Kaplan -- are you taking a class to prep for it?), but will probably try to beef up my clinical experience by doing some more volunteering or shadowing...

On a positive not...the letter came to my parent's home...so it came earlier than expected.
 
got my letter today too -- complete rejection. *sigh* can't be too upset b/c i am a 1st time applicant... time to dig into AMCAS 2006.....

I was told it would be late June= 5 wks 'til the next meeting.

There is not necessarily any rhyme or reason on who gets in or when/why. While no consolation I'm certain, everything happens for a reason. Don't give up, reapply early if it comes to that, and enjoy the time as much as possible.

I applied to Tulane and got rejected a few weeks ago. I'm still on Shreveport's waiting list, but I don't expect anything to come of that.
I'm getting ready to apply again and take the MCAT again. This time I'm going to apply to ten schools!

My parents got mine on grad day, and didn't tell me until the next day. This was the best thing for them to do. That way, that day was still good.
 
Well looks like I am with the majority here. I mean I think medical school enjoys making people's life miserable. I went on a cruise w/ my friends and when I got back there was a rejection letter waiting for me. So I guess I will be a F*$&ing 3 year reapplicant. Well I am not looking forward to putting my life on hold of another year. I am so very tired of this s*$#. The great tragedy is the majority of us that post here and that are and have reapplied will be a thousand times better doctors than some of the people that got in their first time. Simply put we want it more then they do. I only wish the committee could see that.
 
Does anyone know anything about Shreveport's wait list? I'm thinking they will probably only accept 2 or 3 more people this year.
I'm guessing that I will be rejected. I hope they will do that soon. I feel like I have a loose tooth hanging by one thread. Pull it out, Shreveport!
 
sorry to everyone else that didn't get in -- i totally feel your pain. Well, at least we can all make the committment to each other to apply early and do what it takes to get in this time!!!! i'm meeting with dr. eubanks this friday -- did everyone else make their counseling appointment!?!?! I'm considering applying EDP to LSU-NO b/c it's really where I want to be. we'll see if eubanks thinks it is a good idea.

marina & cici - don't let the rejection letter take anything away from your great accomplishment of graduating!! congrats!

They didn't officially reject me until August 1, 2004. To their credit, I was admitted early November w/o a new interview which certainly isn't a bad thing.

If they liked you, they may just let you in which really takes a load off! If not, "F" 'em and good luck.
 
I opened my letter from New Orleans yesterday and I have been placed on a priortized wait list. As for Shreveport, I have heard nothing yet. I am hoping to hear from them soon as that's really where I want to go. I don't even know when their letters were going out. Does anyone else know?

so Shreveport notifies applicants by telephone? I hope they call soon. I d like to know one way or the other. I want to go to Shreveport so bad. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one! Do you know when we should expect phone calls. I know Dr. Kennedy said to be patient until June 1. Why is this so late as compared to the May 15 deadline?
 
well guys i guess i am starting to get over the shock of the bad news. however i am still very much pissed off at everyone in NO (i know i shouldn't be however it is just irrational anger). i am waiting to do my follow up interview w/ mcclug b/c he did my 1st one as well. unfourtuantly he isn't taking meetings until the 1st of june. also jennifermov let me know what eubanks says about EDP. i am thinking about it seriously as well i cant wait another freaking year to find any thing out. i dont know your situation jenn but i will be a 3rd year app. so i am tired of this applying s*$@. and what do you guys think about carribiean schools? b/c at this point i might have to seriously look at them for next year.
 
I contacted Dr. Kennedy today to seek advice on what I should be thinking as of right now and he responded with "it's still too early for pessimism." Why do they do this to us? Sometimes I wish they would just pick the class and let the rest of us make preparations for next year. But then on the other side of the fence, it's nice to know there's still a chance!

termwean, were you accepted at both schools or just new orleans? when did you get your acceptances?

...I had a friend get accepted last year on approx June 15th.....we were at the gym (he worked there) and talking about applying to the Caribbean if we didn't get in....he walked away...10 minutes later he came back to me...walking like he was floating in thin air....he had just got off the phone w/ Kennedy, whom had called him on his cellphone.....The majority of the people that I know that applied this year got in pretty early.

i totally feel your pain!!! there is no way that i want to go through another year of waiting either! i will definitely let you know what eubanks tells me about EDP. I'm also going to ask what else i can do to make my application stronger, etc... i am a 1st time applicant (so although i'm disappointed, i can't really complain since it is my 1st year...). but, i'm not fresh out of school either -- graduated from tulane in 2002 and went to grad school @ baylor college of medicine right after. i was in a PhD program (molecular virology & micro) and after my 1st year i realized i loved research but was way too much of a "people-person" to be stuck in the lab for the rest of my life. plus i really missed louisiana (go figure... 🙄 ) so, i stayed 1 more year to pass my qualifying exam and do some research. i'm now back in baton rouge working for an LSU prof as a research associate (and i'm in the process of writing my thesis to finish my master's -- due july 21st! yikes!) anyway, i think my biggest problem w/ my application was applying late. and maybe not having as much volunteer and clinical experience as others. or maybe they are concerned about my commitment to med school since i left grad school w/out finishing my PhD. okay -- that's a really long reply to explain my situation.

lsuhockey, what have you been doing to pass the time these past 3 years? although you won't talk to McC until june 1st, get that AMCAS application going (remember how long it takes to get your transcripts in and for them to calculate your gpa...!?!?)

alright - my break from thesis writing is over (damn!). i finally found something that has helped me be productive -- work @ my office at night -- no one is here and there aren't any distractions like my dog, or tv, or even procrastinating by cleaning my room. however, i still have access to SDN here.....oh well, no plan is ever perfect!! 😉

well i dont want to miss lead any of you i have only been out of school since may 04. i will be a 3 time app this comming year. i dont know if i was clear w/ that. any way when i talked to mcclug. last year he told me to find a job and take a couple of classes. the normal b.s. you know. althought the weird thing is he told me not to retake the MCAT (i made a 25) he and several other people in LSU-NO told me the same thing. any way i am planning on retaking the MCAT in august. i also have my app almost finished although you cant submit it until june 1st either. a whole lot of waiting, it seems like i would be that by now! in addition to all the worrying about rereapplying i need to worry about if i do take the MCAT in august the scores wont be back until october and EDP sends out acceptanc/waiting list letters in october so i dont know if i should just do the normal app or EDP. either way more F@#$ing waiting.

I was told the same thing about the MCAT. At first, I didn't know what to make of it. It just seemed like bad advice...especially coming from someone in that position.

I retook it.

I don't think it's very nice of them to give that sort of advice. Perhaps, they fear we'll get a lower score. If that's the fact, they should say that! Give some sort of disclaimer: Retake...if you can improve. LSU-NO gets a lot re-apps. They have us fill out the re-app form and make us list what's changed since the last cycle in terms of schooling, volunteer and community activity, and MCAT. It's an uphill battle.

We compete against new applicants. We compete against our fellow re-applicants. Finally, we compete against our former selves.

okay, now i understand -- i thought this past year was your 3rd year applying that you were going on your fourth!!! i was getting a little discouraged by that...but now i feel better & so should you --> third time's the charm!!!

about the august MCAT - you won't be able to take it and apply EDP. your score won't be released until ~ Oct 15th and i think they have to let applicants know by Oct 1st (or some time around then). See what McC tells you. BUT....if i weren't happy with my score, i'd definitely retake it -- that's what i did last summer after my april score came out. but....taking the august mcat is part of the reason i applied so late - didn't send my stuff out until october...it's a trade off!

That's a good point about the EDP: http://www.medschool.lsuhsc.edu/admissions/programs.asp#early

Don't forget, however, that you can apply regular AMCAS without your MCAT score. In fact, you can apply AMCAS June 1st, take the August MCAT, and they'll have the score by the time you interview in say late october to january. So send out your AMCAS and secondary as soon as humanly possible, even if your new MCAT score hasn't been released.

Same thing for me...graduated '04, had a 25 on the MCAT. Eubanks told me it was up to me whether i wanted to retake or not but that it was, in fact, competitive enough. He fed me the usual bull**** and i was off. Didnt get anything from them this year either. And i dont know if Mike if referring to people getting accepted off the waiting list getting phone calls or what...i got accepted in November via letter. And i play hockey too, we probably know each other...are you roller or ice or both?
 
i play both. however i haven't played either in about 2 years.

thanks jennifer, i'm still waiting. All I have been told for the past 6 1/2 months of waiting is "there is absolutely no reason for pessimism; it's still to early for any serious pessimism on your part; there's still no reason for pessimism." he really seems to like that word, but i can't help but be slightly pessimistic that i'm not going to get in at this point. i'm just stuck in a difficult situation, because i'm sitting here wondering if i'm wasting my time waiting, or if I should actually be reapplying right now. i'm basically being told to wait by their admissions committee, but i'm worried that'll put me at a disadvantage for reapplication if i wait too long and end up having to apply again.
