schmial you should just start reapplying now. regardless of if you get in this year or not. i messed up and waited last year. shrevport let me wait until august 1st and then told me sorry try agian next year. new orleans was not much different they waited till june 30th. so i started late. just act like you already got rejected. i know it is not optimistic but i am finding it is easier to be pessimistic and be plesantly proved wrong.

Thanks for your input. I've been thinking the same thing myself. I was just thinking I really didn't want to have to rewrite my personal statement if I didn't have to, but I guess in the end, if I end up getting in this summer, I won't be worried about the time I spent rewriting it. It's just so hard to decide what to do on my own. I've tried setting up a meeting twice so I can find out if there's anything I can do to change my application and I'm being told that I'm on the acceptable list so a meeting isn't necessary at this point. I just feel like I'm stuck and I don't know what I should be doing at this point because I'm not getting advice from the admissions committees.

Agreed finish your AMCAS NOW!!!! It's so much easier since it's already populated w/ your previous responses.

If you're on the acceptable list your PS is almost certainly fine...

LSU-S sent me an August 1 letter as well last year. Fortunately, I had already completed my AMCAS and had secondaries finished by August...

LSU-S accepted me early November w/o a new interview...LSU-NO interviewed me the same week and I was later admitted.

I didn't change ANYTHING in my app. Simply reapplying early apparently made the difference for me.

Good luck all.:luck:

LSUwannabe,
Do you mind saying what you got on the MCAT? I got a 27, and I'm thinking I better take it again. Even if a 27 is ok for LSU, I don't think it is for most other schools.

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and started working on AMCAS again Monday night. It's moving along pretty fast having last year's AMCAS sitting right in front of me. You didn't revise your personal statement at all? I'll have to read over mine again and make sure it's alright. I'm still hoping to hear something, but with it already being June, I'm sure it's highly unlikely.

The phone call came today! I'm in Shreveport! It couldn't have come at a better time and I'm thankful now that I had to wait 6 1/2 months for this day. My grandmother passed away this week and within a half hour of leaving her funeral today, I got the phone call from Ms. Jackie! This acceptance is particularly special to me now. It really means a lot.

Congrats schmial! No more amcas for you!

I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. My prayers are with you and your family. And from your post, it seems someone is looking over you. What an incredibly bittersweet and meaningful moment to begin your career in medicine! =)

Thanks to everyone. I am actually thankful that I had to wait 6 1/2 months for this acceptance. You're right Kimney, it happened on a very meaningful day and my entire family believes she is watching over me. I would have been excited if it happened on any other day, but now it has a special meaning to me. I will always remember that day.

I can finally post here.

On the sixth day of the sixth month of this very year in the mid-afternoon I, 2tall, was accepted to the Louisiana State University Health Science Center School of Medicine at New Orleans.

I took it in '03...got a 29S (12v, 8p, 9b). Both LSU schools said it was fine so I went with it.

Plenty of people get in with lower MCAT scores (below 27) so I don't know; I'm sure it depends on the rest or your app. Oh yeah, did I mention APPLY EARLY?

======================================================

Congrats Schmial, LSUBlondi and 2Tall!!!!

Fear not everyone else as you will certainly gain acceptance; it will simply be that much sweeter when it comes! Good luck and don't even consider giving up!

Try to be empowered by the "rejection" and improve your app in any small way. You've undoubtedly overcome numerous obstacles so are you really going to let these adcoms beat you?

See you in the fall...2Tall.

need housing in new orleans? im going to be a second year at tulane, and im moving in with a roommate (cheaper rent). i live in a fantastic single thats a little on the pricey end (725/mo), but still far cheaper than the warehouse district apartments. youll find that, though it is easy to find an apartment any time of year in new orleans, its very difficult to find a clean place without bugs and with modern appliances. my apartment is two miles down canal, which is a direct drive to the medical school. theres never any traffic on this street, an added bonus, since there always is traffic if youre coming from uptown in the morning. the apartment is available july 1, so email me at [email protected] if youre interested. ideally, id like to hook up a med student (and im sure my landlord would like one, too) so let me know if youre interested, so i can pull the ad from craigslist. also, feel free to email me if you have any other questions or whatever about tulane. congratulations...

Bumping this old thread into 2009 to show there's still hope.
