Apologies in advance for beating a dead horse on this subject, but am looking for those who have been in a similar situation. Currently, I am in my third year pursuing a biology major and am already behind after switching from a business administration major my freshman year. I have made good grades up until this semester in my biology classes, but I have lost all interest in biology and find myself having a difficult time retaining the information from studying to do well on exams. I find myself more interested in the public health and nutrition majors, but am concerned about putting myself further away from taking the MCAT and applying to med schools. To sum it up, I guess if anybody has any words of advice I'd very much appreciate it!

Have you done any physician shadowing? If not, I suggest lining some of that up before you tackle the MCAT. Better to find out now that you're more suited to public health or nutrition than after a $300+ test and several months of prep.

I've done right under 100 hours of shadowing currently and am working towards getting my certification for CMA. I'm really focusing on clinical work, volunteering, and working for a good MCAT when that time comes around since I wouldn't consider my GPA to be too competitive

If you are wanting to switch majors this late in the game, I think it's a bad idea. College costs a lot of money, and so does med school. Not to mention how much extra time you'll be spending switching to a different major. If it were me, I would just stick it out. You can have any major for med school, so you might as well stick with what you originally picked. Maybe to help yourself keep motivated to retain the information, you can think about WHY you are studying for your exams. Instead of thinking of it as passing that specific test, think of it as part of the pathway to medical school. I think sometimes we forget why we are doing all these things in the first place, because we get so caught up in the day to day grind. Hang in there OP, and good luck with whatever choice you end up making.

I think I would just stick it out. I'm a senior biology major who wishes she picked nutrition or psychology so I wouldn't be in irrelevant biology courses, but here I am. You just should aim to finish your prereqs and degree as soon as possible.
