Hi all! I have been wondering if majoring in Business before apply to Dental School is a good idea. But the problem is, since these non-science majors do not cover the per-requisites required by Dental/Medical schools. Will I be able to graduate in 4 year time? And do i have take more than 19 credits per semester and pay for additional credits? Since business major at my schools requires 130 credits to graduate. Will it be too much workload for me to graduate on time with the per-requisites? Can pre-dental/ dental students who have major in non-science major share their experience of doing business major (or other non-science major) and pre-dental at the same time? Any advice/ comments are appreciated. 🙂 PS: i wonder if i can do labs/research with a non-science degree. 😕 Advice please. Thank you!

You can replace your gen ed sciences with Both intro Biology and Biology Labs for biology majors, and then use all of your electives on the other pre reqs (g chem 1 and 2, O chem 1 and 2, maybe some, microbiology, genetics and physics 1 and 2 with labs)

I was an art sculpture major and I took the bare minimum required pre-requisite classes along with my art classes and graduated on time in four years. I took a few summer classes though because being a non-science major, I had to take an intro chem class before they would let me take gen chem 1 and 2. I had a lot of credits each semester, probably 18 or 19. The pre-requisite classes only give you about 40 or so credits towards your science gpa so I'm doing a post-baccalaureate right now to take some 300 and 400 level sciences. You can always complete a post-bac if you can't complete all of the pre-requisites. I definitely recommend it for non-science majors if you can't complete it all or want to take upper level classes but it is possible to do it definitely. Also I think majoring in business will be really good to set you apart! It will definitely help when you start a practice too. When I interviewed, they loved asking me questions about my major.

Thank you so much guys. Didn't know i could use electives to do my pre-requistes. And miley13, i think your major is amazing. A great major for dentistry. No wonder it grabs the attention of the interviewers. Good luck in your post-bac 🙂
