Latest Air Force promo stats:

Selection statistics in-the-promotion zone for colonel:

-- Dental Corps: 15 selected from 21 considered for 71.4 percent select rate

-- Medical Corps: 27 selected from 50 considered for 54 percent select rate

-- Medical Service Corps: 12 selected from 23 considered for 52.2 percent select rate
 
Nope... O-6 sure isn't automatic... not by medical work alone.

You don't make it to O-6 by having a low complication rate for your surgical patients, shepherding retirees throught the Tricare maze, or moving the meat in the ER/clinic. You get to O-6 by taking on administrative roles, and making yourself highly visible in the chain of command by being the go-to-guy for everyone's pet administrative or statitical/data collection project.

Clinical skills and expertise alone will not get you to O-6. Once you get to Colonel rank, it's political.

Precept for this years Navy Medical Corps board will be 80% in zone selection.
