Hi all,
Has anybody considered Marquette's Adv standing programme?is it tough to get in there, like what NDBE scores do they expect?i know it is a 3 yr programme.
if anybody has any info please do post.....

1 more thing,is there a particular format for the recommendation letters required for applying to schools?

Thanks in advance.

About Marquette,

I got the following info from the application packet:

Class Profile 2002-2003 (for regular DDS program)
# of applicants: 1, 582
Enrolled: 305

Mean Total GPA: 3.41
Mean DAT Scores:
Acad.: 17.64
PAT:17.40

At least in the app packet they didn't provide stats about their Advanced Standing, but from the above stats you can at least get a glance of their average numbers, and see what they are looking for. Maybe if contact them, they may tell you about Adv St. average numbers. But I don't know is just a suggestion.

A girl in my class was an advanced standing student from INDIA
I think she only scored 83 on part 1. I don't think there emphasis is on part 1 - its more like if a space becomes available, they want to fill it. Marquette looks at the whole applicant not just the numbers. Traditionally, Marquette is decent clinically - I think only 2/75 failed clinical boards - but below average on national boards - although I did above average on both part 1 and 2.

thanks Dr.Rob for the info.
i have a good NDBE score and i am planning to apply to marquette.the only problem is ,it is not exactly an advanced standing program with a fixed quota.it is like as u said ,adv standing students just get accepted to the second yr.i am not sure if there is any kind of orientation before that.
i have decided to visit marquette and see what is going on .that way maybe i can come into contact with people who got in through the Adv standing program. it is difficult for people like me ,planning to go to school in a totally new country and scared to death about it.i am not sure i will be able to gel in and feel comfortable with the regular students who grew up and went to school here.🙁
so it is will comforting to know there r people attending marquette from different backgrounds🙂

Marquette has a very diverse class - I loved my class - we had such a good time. Advanced standing students I think will get the orientation with freshman, but start in second year. I think that you would also be exempt from some basic science courses like physiology and pathology! Visit the campus, the new school is beautiful and Brian Trecek is great.

I called Marquette u jsut a 3 weeks ago and I was told they no longer have AS program..I am pretty surprised with what I have read overhere...same goes true for Lousiana State U..they dropped the program as well---at least that s what they told me--
and University Of Michigan ......

as I understand they would accept a few ppl if somebody drops the class or if somebody is dismissed, when I called them I think they already knew, the class was not gonna have any seat..

I hope I did not 😕 anybody

Hi bleach,
I got my application packet from Marquette in April and then they had Adv Standing.even yestday i had called them with some doubts regarding requirements in the application.they cleared it for me.
ofcourse i didn't ask them whether AS program is still valid or not ,becoz i was under the assumption it was.i think if it got cancelled they would have certainly mentioned it becoz i had specified which program i was applying to.now i am totally confused.......
maybe i should call again????

You could always apply to first year, couldn't you? Its possible marquette may have stopped the AS program because they are changing the curriculum. Can you still apply to Yr 1 having taking NDB 1 - at least all you would have to do is pass it! I don't know if they would make you take the DAT?

hi,
I recieved an apllication packet from marquette. i have a score of 88 on part 1 and a score rangeof 237-293 on toel. do you thnk i shld apply with these stats. i have given my transcripts for evaluation and am awaiting their letter. do you know if there are any seats open for fall 2004?

thanks,
bye,
sanjukta

Your score is good for applying becoz they have'nt given any minimum Reqts. you don't have to wait for the ECE report becoz they want it sent directly from ECE,also NDBE and TOEFL score reports directly from ADA and TOEFL services.so sent ur application along with a letter saying u have requested the official copies to be sent to Marquette.but don't forget to request the official copies to be sent in the meantime.
Thatz what I did and I applied yestday.I don't know whether they have any open spots, but I guessed they have becoz I got the application on request,+ when I talked to a lady in admissions she didn't discourage me from applying.I didn't ask outright if there are any seats🙂

Thanks Dentek2 . that was great help. i will send the application out immediately. also i was wondering when they ask for essay, what do they actually expect in it? have you submitted one with your application? what did u include, like work experienece?

I didn't see any essay requirement in Marquette application form.now I am confused.maybe they have a new application format, mine I got in april and it didn't need an essay.
anyway since it is a private Uvty i hope they will let me know if I missed anything or if there is a new format.

I called Marquette today .They told me that they need TOEFL=213
and part-1=75.

I am a little confused because when I enquired by an email they replied me that they want all the score reports including NDB, TOEFL and ECE in our application packed only not the direct results . so I havent requested reports for Marquette along with other universities. now what should I do?

hi
if they told you so, then definitely do that.but when I contacted them over the phone a lady in admissions said they need the official copies.maybe both ways will work, and they are not particular.I thought the schools here were organised but it is the same story everywhere.they give conflicting information to every other person.so it will be easier for you to sent the copies,as it will be waste of time and money now to request official copies ,esp since you have a mail from them as proof.

this is for smi,
I recieved an application confirmation letter from Marquette and it is specifically stated that they require official copies of score reports.but they have also mentioned in the bottom they will start processing the application with photocopies.
So I think you should sent the application with copies of the candidate score report and should request for official ones to be sent directly....
Hope this helps
