  1. Pre-Dental
Hi,
I'm going to be attending UW this fall. I took two years of college in hs so I'll be a Junior even though it's my first year in college. I never took math under my AA degree in hs and don't think I'll be able to place into Pre-calc 120 at the UW, so I'm likely going to start with Algebra 098 which then will let me do Math/Pre-calc 120.

My first question is, do I need any math beyond Pre-calc? I know for my major (Biology) I'll need more math, which I'm planning on doing Quantitative Science (Q SCI 291/292 or something like that) or Statistics, but neither of which need Calculus or any higher math than. How important is math for dentistry and in particular, the DAT?

One side question: I'm able to side-step pre-calc 120 and after the remedial algebra course, go straight to the Q SCI courses that I need for my major requirements. Is pre-calc recommended for these courses or would I be OK w/o pre-calc in them + the DAT? Math isn't my strong suit, which is why I'd rather not take pre-calc/calc and deter my GPA if they aren't necessary.

I appreciate any advice. 🙂

The DAT covers basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and a little trig. I personally took statistics for my math requirement. Harvard is the only school that requires calculus.
