After May 15th, I know that we are only allowed to hold onto one medical school. Regarding withdrawing deadline, is it May 15th 11:59pm, or May 14th 11:59pm? I probably won't be withdrawing from all my schools that late, but I am still waiting on one more financial aid offer, which won't come until early May, so I want to make sure that I don't miss the deadline. Also is it acceptable to send an email to the admissions office on May 15th 11:59pm? or should it be sent during business hours? Thanks.

.....don't send it at 11:59PM

send it during business hours on the 15th

Just out of curiosity, what happens if you don't withdraw from other schools by the 15th and hold onto acceptances?

The schools could contact you to "remind" of your responsibilities and give you a timeframe after which you could lose your seat.

Some schools won't even bother with a "reminder", and will just straight up revoke your offer. You definitely do not want to test them on this one.

On that note, if we pick one school by May 15th but get off the waitlist for another school afterwards, do we have some time to decide between the two schools?

I'm not sure what the actual rule is, but you should probably rank the schools now. That way if you do get off of the waitlist, you can withdraw from the other school and give that spot to someone else who wants it.

OK, so all we have to do is contact the schools we don't want to go to, and just ask to be withdrawn from them. Do we also have to contact the school that we do want to go to, and reconfirm our intentions with them?

Don't be that guy. Just decide before May 14th.

+1. Sooner, if possible. It's as simple as contacting each of the schools and telling them that you're either matriculating there, or you're not.

Sincerely,
6 waitlists.

+2 6 wait lists as well

As someone who is also looking to get off of a wiatlist, I approve this message. 👍

Yes, you do have time. It will vary depending on the school that takes you off their waitlist. We usually allow 48 hours, though some schools give a week. I recommend that you consider what you would do if accepted beforehand to make it less painful for all.

I will be withdrawing from one of my schools this week 🙂 Hope one of you are on that waitlist!

Not necessarily, but it depends on the school. Some schools will ask you for an additional deposit after May 15, some will ask you to submit a form confirming your decision, some schools will just be okay with your initial deposit from acceptance and simply not withdrawing. If you're unsure you can always contact the admissions office.

To withdraw, some schools require an email and some have an online application portal that you can also withdraw from. Most schools don't allow you to call and withdrawal for security reasons (like having someone else fake being you to get revenge).

No need to tell schools you still will be there. If they ask you to do something, then do it. Otherwise, not receiving a withdrawal letter means you still consider matriculating.

But seriously, decide ASAP to help people on the waitlist get in sooner. I withdrew from two schools two months ago to help the people on the waitlists.

In my case, I had to do this, but in an unusual circumstance. School A (top 10 private in northeast) had given me a 90% tuition scholarship in mid-April. School B (my state school and my top choice) sent me my financial aid package on May 9, with a 15% grant. I called School B, explaining they're my #1 but it would be cheaper/less debt to go out of state to school A. School B said I should wait while they would look for more scholarship funds for me, but they could not give me an answer by May 15, saying they would need a few more days. So I called School A on May 15, explaining the situation with School B and asked if I could have a few more days, which they were happy to give me. So, it is now May 16 and am "holding on" to these two schools. I really wanted to comply with the May 15 traffic rules, but at the same time, I didn't want to decide on a school without knowing the complete financial aid package. Does anyone else know of similar situations, or schools not deciding on financial aid by May 15?

It happens all the time for the reasons you cited. Holding on to two acceptances while these things are worked out is expected. Holding on for no apparent reason is not.

I'm in a similar situation as meccano. Do you have to take any steps to notify your schools that you were holding onto multiple acceptances while waiting for financial aid information? I see earlier in this thread, someone posted that a school would/could revoke your acceptance if they saw you were holding onto more than one school after the May 15th deadline. Is that true?? Without the financial aid info I need, I am unsure of which school to pick, but at the same time, I'd hastily make my choice if it meant the revocation of any or all of them.

PS: I called the two schools whose financial aid packages I am waiting on, and both pretty much told me to wait it out if I was interested in them. Would that be sufficient in regards to letting them know I'm holding onto multiple acceptances?

EDIT:
Whoever said that the schools would revoke acceptances if they saw an accepted student holding additional ones past May 15th was correct! So I just withdrew from the other schools and have picked one. Be careful if you're holding more than one acceptance at this point!

Thanks! Do you know this for sure? (When you said: "Whoever said that the schools would revoke acceptances if they saw an accepted student holding additional ones past May 15th was correct!"

In that case, I'll withdraw now...

EDIT: I've withdrawn from the private school and went with my state school. It seems strange that students in this position should have to decide on a med school without knowing how much it will cost. (Imagine buying a car and the dealer said he'll tell you the price later). I'm not sure what that may 15 deadline was for....
