May 15th doesn't apply to DO schools?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

It does becuase many accepted DO students choose to stay on an allopathic waitlist. If accepted they will drop the DO school.
Also, I think that at least Ga-PCOM has a May 15 deadline for deposit payments.

Yep....I've waited till the last moment to pay my deposit to GA-PCOM. So, in two hours I will be $2000 poorer. So, May 15 does apply.

I was referring to someone, like myself, that got accepted to DO schools only and paid a deposit for each of them. Do I still have to notify the school I don't plan to attend by May 15th? --- if only I know which one.

No, you do't have to notify anyone.

I'm like you. Pretty much almost but not quite decided yet.

Technically, it doesn't apply. However, according to the AACOM Admissions Guidelines:

"Applicants who have made a final decision on the medical school they plan to attend have the obligation to promptly withdraw their applications from all other schools."

If you don't care about your obligations, then I guess you don't have to tell anybody...but it would be the nice thing to do.

I'm leaning towards LECOM-PA because it's cheaper, has the option to do rotations in other cities (i.e., NYC, Pittsburg, or my hometown), and only 61% or so go into primary care.

Riiiiight. Bunch of BS IMHO. We've spend thousands of dollars on this process, kissed everyones a$$, mauled our postman everyday, and been at the mercy of every single admissions office and committee --and now I have an obligation to be nice to these schools. Horsehockey. Granted you are holding out on a few fellow applicants but hey, you worked hard to get multiple acceptances. Hold them as long as you need to make a defanite decision. Congratulations.

That's the way I see it!

I'm tired after all of this and just don't want to be rushed. 😴

yeah, and according to a letter I got from them, there would be NO extensions. I sweated my decision to wait UNTIL May 15 to pay, but its done and over now so I feel it was the best decision.

I agree that it is not fair to be rushed into making a decision on what school you will spend the next four years at. However, I think it is irresponsible and inconsiderate for anyone to suggest not notifying the schools at all of your final decision. There are too many people that end up waiting a long time and there are many instances where a person gets called at the very last minute to join an entering class. My brother had two separate acceptances and I advised him to tell the school he wasn't interested in that he would not be attending. I think decency has really become lost in this society.

Long "enough to make a decision" is the key. Any longer than that and you become an ass. Granted, you have the right to be an ass if you want to. Did it ever dawn on you that the reason it costs $1,500 to $3,000 to hold a seat is because people like to hold onto multiple acceptances way too long?
