Interesting. Anyone know how this process works? Do they put some borderline secondary applicants in a different pile for later decision? Did the secondary come via e-mail or snail mail?

Yeah, I called yesterday, but all I got was "you'll hear soon," so rather inconclusive.

I do know that someone else received a secondary after like 7 weeks, so at least this delay doesn't automatically mean a definite rejection.

Thanks gobears! Pretty psyched myself! I'd be very happy to go medical school at GWU. Their health care policy and global health opportunities are amazing.

And hopefully we'll both get invites to Mayo soon. They seem to go out via email around 1:35am CST on Tues mornings. So I'll be up til that time every week watching my inbox and refreshing just in case! 😀

Just got back from a Mayo interview yesterday. The school is the most amazing school ever. I told my dad that the day Mayo accepts me is the day I stop searching for a med school. Now I'll probably just have to wait until March to see if I can stop searching 🙄. Anyway, it sounded from what Jane and a few others said that the first acceptances won't go out until the beginning of next week. One of the deans is away from the office and they wanted to wait until she got back. Here's to hoping that we all get in!

I am not sure my poor little heart can take it! On the other hand being overly dramatic on a message board seems to be helping.

I was hoping to be able to celebrate (or bemoan) something this week but apparently neither of the schools(gtown too) that I was expecting to hear from are in any sort of rush to let people know. Bah!

This is sooo good to know... I kept wondering what day she'd get back into the office and start calling people! Somehow I had convinced myself that it would be today, so you have saved me a ton of anxiety by letting me know that I still have a few days where no one will find out. Thanks for the info 👍

I think that some (but perhaps not all) people in this thread (you might want to read through previous pages) did get a complete email. I called Jane and she told me I was complete over the phone, so I'm assuming that I won't be getting the "complete" email.

i sent my secondary in on sept. 21. i called jane on oct. 12, and she told me over the phone that my application was complete on the 5th. no email. she told me to expect some news by the end of this week.

i called today to check my completion (i sent mine 10/13) and Jane told me that she would print-out my recs and essay asap but that she is currently working on ones submitted two weeks ago...hope that helps!

One bit of advice (although, it's kinda obvious) is to really really emphasize your fit with Mayo in an interview. They have to be the most random, elite med school in the country.

Last year, i knew of people with 35+ MCATS and 3.8+ Gpas with amazing extracurriculars not even getting phone interviews (they did fine in the end tho, getting into hopkins, stanford, columbia, etc). Yet, some very borderline candidates (29-31 MCAT, below 3.5 gpas) were getting interviews.

Make sure you emphasize Why Mayo and in doing so illustrate
that the other traditional powerhouses won't be as good for you. There's only 32 spots in the end, so fit is especially huge.

jane is awesome...i think what she meant when i called yesterday...was that she was still working on downloading lors, and i assume printing out essays, for those that had been submitted two weeks before mine. she told me today (yess i AM A SPAZZ) that after she downloads your letters the app is considered complete but it will take ~2 weeks to be reviewed ('due to high volume of applications' bleHH)--and that she would give notification AFTER the review...so really--its 4 weeks before notification i guess---i dont think u shouldnt call though if youre concerned and want to know where you stand in the process--you could always just check that shes gotten your lors...shes really helpful....

One page in total, about 250-300 words/essay. They say to make the combined total one page and you can't go much over 300 words if you have two essays that way.

I've spent all morning making sure my phone was alive just in case Mayo calls... no luck yet, but it makes me feel a little better than no one else has heard yet either. Perhaps Mayo calls in the afternoons? It's hard knowing that they start calling people today...!!

i have a mayo interview this friday, any suggestions or descriptions of the day?

also they called about a week ago and said that there will be an additional activity after 3 pm going until 330. did you guys have this too and what is this. the message said that there is another person they'd like me to meet.

its just a brief group meeting with the dean ... nothing too sepcial

Thanks so much! Yah well I got an email from harvard this morning (just telling me I am complete after having all my stuff in for 2 months) but the From: line was first and it said "OfficeofAdmissions@" and after reading that I got really excited. Then I read the rest and it was from Harvard and I was extremely disappointed. I think they are reading this thread and getting a kick. Come on Jane! End our misery.

I remember seeing that mdapps profile several weeks ago that said they were accepted to Mayo for this cycle, so I don't think that it is real, maybe just a mistake of checking the wrong box on the applicant's part.

Yeah, I definitely saw that MDapps earlier (in the summer) and I think they either made it up or it's actually from last year and they put in the wrong date! So don't get too worried about it...👍
