oh...if you take the shuttle from MSP...you can try asking for the Mayo discount, I'm not sure what it is but they may give it to you because you're interviewing here.
i paid like $40 with the under 25 penalty and everything

But if it is in the dead of winter that might not be the best drive to make...

It's not too cold here yet, except at night. I would avoid flying through Chicago if you can, better to fly through MSP or take the shuttle from MSP...depending on how much you like REALLY tiny planes (if you're tall you may want to avoid that flight). There's a good bunch of hotels here...the Marriot and the Kahler are the two attached to Mayo but if you're anywhere downtown you can walk to the clinic or take the subway, otherwise there's shuttles from pretty much everywhere.
Trust me; Phoenix will not need to pay the "Under 25" penalty.![]()

Hah! I live in Chicago! Pretty hard to avoid.... Guess I'll see what the flights are. I was just worried that being a smaller airport, Rochester may close due to weather more easily than MSP. If so, I'll fly into MSP and rent a car.
I guess I'll see if there's a student host available, and if not, I'll check out the hotels attached to Mayo. I'm assuming I won't be interviewing until the end of November or early December, so the weather won't be great. Funny thing - I was just at a dog park and met a woman from Minnesota so I got to ask her a bunch of silly questions about the winters. 🙂 Better her than someone at Mayo!
Well...if you're already in Chicago...then it's a mad quick flight to Rochester. I wouldn't worry about them closing the airport here, we're pretty quick about clearing snow and I've seen them take off in a good foot or two of snow...just a touch scary in a tiny plane.
Contrats pheonix! That's great. I didn't get an interview invitation email this morning, do you know what that means (if it means anything at all)? I called in to talk to Jane, but she isn't in the office today. 🙁. I was complete on Oct 5.

I got an invite this morning at 1:40 am CST! I was beginning to lose hope, but it finally came. I'm really pumped.
Congrats! I actually stayed up last night watching my email at 1:30am in anticipation, and of course it came at 1:30am today (Sunday) instead.
So, for those of you who stayed with student hosts, how was that set up? The interview scheduling site doesn't have any information about that, and neither did the invite email. Do they do a follow-up email about student hosts? Or is it something you need to inquire about?
Also, how long did you guys stay? Did you just fly in the night before and fly right back, or did any of you stay a day or two over the weekend to check out Rochester? I'm thinking about flying in on a Thursday evening (NOT booking the last flight of the day just in case it gets canceled), and maybe returning Saturday evening. Oh, and the earliest interview available was in early December.
And one more question - around what part of month does the committee usually meet? Mid-month?
Very cool Kiara! Congrats on your offered admissions. I like your tabulated cost of applying to med schools. Good luck with Mayo.

How does the application fee payment work for Mayo? Do they send a request to pay their fee after receiving your AMCAS application, or do they only request payment if they decide to send you a secondary? I would appreciate any advice, thanks.
Yeah, they ask for the application fee after you submit your primary. They will then contact you within 4 weeks if they are interested enough to ask you to submit your LOR. More waiting.
tyemoe said:I feel for all of you guys...I interviewed at Mayo on Oct. 8th and got put on hold this first round. I've been accepted at University of Rochester in NY. Hopefully Mayo will pull through for me though. Good luck with the interviews.
The Mayo biochem requirement is something to have *before* you matriculate. You do not need this before the interview so do not worry.
We are right about this trust me on this. Take biochem when you can and do not worry that it will effect your acceptance wether you take it earlier or not...
