So does this mean they've only got a couple more rounds of taking people for interviews, or even that they aren't offering any more interviews (unless Jane's wish is granted)?
 
I'm not sure... In the e-mail it says they interview until Feb 15th.
 
Congrats custard & drbowtie!!! I do recall that it said they only interview through mid-February - hopefully you guys can make those dates. It feels like it's been a long wait, and I can't believe my interview is almost here - one more week! And of course, it appears that the temp is really dropping at the end of this week in Rochester. It had been tracking the temp in Chicago, but no more.... Guess I'll get to see Rochester in it's full arctic glory! 😀

It's not so bad...ok, yeah...it's been downright frosty out and Rochester is for some reason a giant wind tunnel...particularly around the clinic. There's supposed to be a good amount of snow this weekend as well...hopefully...you never really know how accurate they are. No worries though, roads will be plowed and the subway is toasty warm.

How do we arrange a student host, by the way? Also, I switched my interview date over the phone but it didn't switch in the online system...should I be worried?

A day or two after the interview invite email you'll get an email with information on how to arrange a student host (you basically email the students that run the hosting program and they hook you up).

I wouldn't worry about the status page not changing if you got confirmation by phone that you'd changed your date.
 
yea im really wondering on what kind of shoes i should wear to the interview...is that a dumb question?? i have never had to wear a suit in the snow---will i die if i wear heels?!

I wouldn't really worry about snow. Here in the north, they're pretty quick with the shoveling and plowing...you won't be running through any snowbanks unless there's a blizzard and well...even then, the entire clinic and downtown area is connected by the "subway" (basically a network of carpeted tunnels complete with shops and artwork). So, if it's snowy, you can just take those and never go out in the snow. I'm not sure if they give you a tour or anything but I imagine that you'd be fine in heels, if it's really cold or snowy you'll just go through the subway.

In case prospective students aren't aware, the class of 2012 has 50 spots, not 42. MMS was recently approved to add the extra eight, all of which are for regular MDs.

So your chances of receiving an appointment are that much greater. 👍


And Cindy, while still a Mayo employee, is no longer working with the medical school in the admin. office. 🙁

Yeah so I had an interview at Mayo recently and words can hardly describe how awesome this place is.
 
I thought they were going to rank us this past Friday 🙁

I don't think Mayo would be nearly as good as it is if the class size were increased to 120+. The small size is one of the things I really like about the school and definitely has a big effect on the experience that you get. That being said, if they added 1 more spot and it happened to go to me...well...I'd be all for that.

when was your interview? i was ranked this friday after an interview on 10/26

i thought peops were gonna get in on the 29th??? guess that was a no ... or no one got in thats on SDN .... anyone have any updated info about next time theyll let some in???
 
hey! i was told by jane that they have given out 5 acceptances for this years class and that they are backed up because of the holidays and will probably be getting slightly more backed up with this upcoming holiday...hope that helps...=)
 
oh--and sorry if this has already been said on the forum-but the committee meets on thursdays and sends out something---rank or acceptances (not sure) monthly...

did she hint at all when the next round of acceptances/holds would be?

today was 6 weeks from the last time, and online it says they do it every 4 - 6 weeks....

they meet on thursdays. if you are discussed, you will receive an email that evening saying that you've been ranked. you can then be considered for an acceptance/hold. they do that supposedly every 4 - 6 weeks.
 
I just interviewed at Mayo last Friday....It was incredible. Anyway, we asked Jane about the admissions process. She said the admissions committee meets every Thursday night. They make decisions concerning acceptances, but they don’t inform the applicants about these decisions immediately. Usually they give out quite a few acceptances together. They’ve only given out five acceptances to this point. She said that they will probably give out about 10 more acceptances in the next week or so! Good luck.

Wow!! Somehow I just assumed the next batch of acceptances would just be 5, like the last time.

I need to make sure to make the appropriate sacrifices at the Altar of Acceptance tonight. I think a goat and a chicken are apropriate at this point. If I miss out this time I might have to move on to cattle.

I'd sacrifice a jar of Mayo to the mayo gods if I were you, or perhaps a nice sandwich...it's important to think about which god you're aiming for. (I usually sacrifice rolls of smarties to the gods of partial credit before and after exams).
 
Does anyone know how they notify applicants? I'm in Canada so I hope it's not snail mail

I believe they start off with a phone call, then an email, followed up by snail mail...but it may have changed. That's how they did it last year for the MD/PhDs as well. Along with a few student calls of congratulations...
 
They will call you first and then they will send and email and a letter in the mail. So there is no way that you will miss the notification that you got in.
 
bah.. I'm not even ranked so I doubt I'll even be considered for this round... 🙁
 
All of you guys coming back from interviews and saying how amazing Mayo is are stressing me out. Stop it! 😛 And I promise not to post too extravagantly about the perfection of Mayo when I return from my interview this week.

Good luck to those of you waiting. Ten acceptances to be given out soon - wow. Do you think the odds are better or worse for getting a golden Wonka ticket?

So, I hear that after the interview you get ranked, and then accepted or the equivalent of a waitlist. But do any of you know when Mayo does give out post-interview rejections? Is it rolling? In the spring? June? Just wondering....

i think that around marchish (this may not be exactly the month) they take the people on the hold list and choose to reject them or place them on a waitlist
 
I got an interview invite at 230am when I was pulling an all nighter for an econ exam. I thought I had fallen asleep, after realizing I was actually awake I didnt feel tired at all for the rest of the day. Im set to interview on Feb 1, and it cannot come soon enough!

I promise to sacrifice all condiments in my fridge in exchange for a Mayo acceptance. In the meantime, I shall distract myself with the best show on tv, A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila.

I think the above poster is right, I know its an earlier date...and i swear it was in an M month. Mayo likes to have it's class set early...I'm pretty sure there's not much movement either after the final set of acceptances because most people pick mayo if they get in.

Oh, and it's supposed to be a snowy week so you'll get to see a bit of Minnesota winter while you're here.
 
i talked to jane today and got some goood info

tomorrow more acceptances will be made ... and before the new year there will be at least 2 rounds of acceptances ....

so yup ... at least 10 more lucky people will be accepted befoere the new year ... heres hoping!
