It's when the admissions committee votes on your fit with Mayo. The higher the rank, the better shot of getting in. Getting the email that you've been ranked is pretty much just an affirmation that your file has been reviewed by the adcom.
 
Anyone heard anything? Confirmation/denial of expanding the class size to 50? I'm anxiously awaiting 10/15...
 
I interviewed on the 28th and still no email about being ranked... hmmm...

My bet is that one of your two interviewers wasn't at the last adcom meeting, since I swear Jane said that if they both aren't there they wait to rank you until the next week.
 
how long does it take after u submit your secondary for mayo to mark you as "complete"? should i call them, its been almost 2 weeks now

What do you mean "mark as complete?" You just mean for them to send out an email confirming you're complete? I've been wondering too, only I just submitted mine yesterday! When I spoke with Jane last week, she said that we should hear back if we're going to be invited about two weeks after we're complete. But I failed to ask how long it takes to be considered complete after you've submitted everything. I'm assuming not long....?

This sucks! Why did mayo have to be as good as it was? This would not be nearly as nerve racking if they were terrible.

yeah, would someone please send them an email and tell them to start sucking? possibly like get rid of all amazing opportunities and sell their beautiful clinics/hospitals? that would make the next 6 days a lot easier for us...
 
Hey, could you guys confirm - did you get a "complete" email after you submitted your secondary? If so, about how long after you submitted (i.e., everything was in)? Thanks.

EDIT: I just spoke to Jane, and she said that she's still putting together materials from secondaries submitted on 9/24. I asked if she sends out a completion email, and my impression was that she doesn't. But she did confirm that my materials are in the queue.

I never received a complete email, I just received an email after submitting my essays asking where my LORs were coming from. I got my invite the same week, so I didn't bother asking if I was complete. I haven't heard of anyone getting a complete email.

She will send you complete e-mail.

I thought it was rejection, but it was only complete mail!
 
I never got a complete email, just the interview invite within a week of submitting secondary.

I figured as much, and I hate being patient...
 
When I was at my interview, Jane said something about the Dean being gone the week of the 15th so they might not send out any acceptances until the following week. Did anyone else hear this or know if it is true? I may have simply misunderstood what she was saying.

I don't believe they said anything like that on 9/28 (correct me if I'm wrong)... but if that is the case then I guess it's good to know what's going on. Does anyone else know anything about this?

thanks for posting that. I submitted my secondary on 9/25 and since i haven't heard anything yet (today was 2 week mark and people previously heard back in 1 week), i was getting worried.
 
I was complete on 9/25 as well. I phoned them today and they said it will be another four more weeks!!

Four more weeks until they let you know about an interview or no interview?

I submitted my 2ndary on 9/25, but haven't heard anything yet, not even a complete e-mail. I should probably call to make sure that they have all of my stuff, but I guess I have a long while to wait before i hear anything about interviews. sigh.

that seems strange. i was complete on 9/25 also and received an interview last friday

I could be wrong, but I think Jane mentioned that one person (the dean or assistant dean, can't remember which) reads them all. (Or maybe it was two people)? She mentioned she puts together 10 apps at a time for them so they don't get overwhelmed. And she said that their process is pretty consistent (i.e., selection of applicants for interviews) as the same person reviews all of the apps.

Maybe the person above who said they were complete on 9/25 just meant that's when they submitted their materials? If so, per Jane, she's just putting those files together to be reviewed. And then it's supposedly about two weeks once you're in review. *shrug* Maybe whoever posted earlier about the dean being away for a week was right, and that's what makes it a week or so longer to be reviewed now.

Regardless, I'm happy that they seem to move so fast. And while I'd love to hear back tomorrow as well, four weeks sounds fast to me in this process. I prefer that to the completely mysterious box that is Northwestern (as well as a bunch of other schools (Baylor - achem)). All I know is that I've been complete since 8/10 and that no decision has been made. And I won't hear anything until possibly December....or later. I much prefer hearing back even a month after being complete. Although it will likely be unrequited, here's some more love for Mayo. 😍

I got the complete email on 9/25 as well, but still no word after that. 🙁
 
I spoke with Jane yesterday. She told me the 9/25 complete files are being reviewed now. We should hear back very soon, hopefully by the end of the week.
 
Well I received my interview invite today. So I guess we don't have to wait four weeks!! (Sorry bout that guys)

Yep, I got it at 2:37 am EST. I got the secondary at 2:34 am.
 
Ok man, for REAL! I submitted my primary 6 weeks ago as of today!


I e-mailed them and asked if my primary was misplaced or something. You'd think if they had really fallen so behind, they would have sent out a mass e-mail saying the 4-week deadline could not be met....😴

I just talked to Jane and she said that they will not notify anyone on October 15th because Dr. Barrier will not be in the office that day. However she did say that it will be sometime next week. If you are not lucky enough to get a call, email, and letter right away, then you will receive an email telling you that you are on hold. They do not send any rejections until after March 15th. So if you are already ranked, you should get an email sometime next week. Just thought that I would share this info with you all. Good Luck!!!
 
Damn... Now I will have to be anticipating this all week! Here's hoping for a phone call!

I can confirm that they're increasing the class size to 50 for the incoming class of 2008. I heard it directly from Dr. Lindor and several other members of the admissions committee/deans this afternoon. They've been given approval by the boards and it's been signed off on, so...more spots will be open this year. Good Luck!

LOL, I'm still waiting for a secondary invite or pre-sec rejection....called them today, the lady was nice, but didn't say anything other than "your file is under review and you should hear soon." I wish she said smth more concrete, like "this week" or "by the end of the month" instead of "soon." *sigh* She seemed kind of unsure and stuttered a lot, too, I wonder if it showed me as rejected and she didn't wanna tell me over the phone, lol.:laugh:
 
I am keeping the faith that we will hear back before thursday. See my friends wedding is on Saturday and I am going back to my hometown Thursday night to prep (going to be groomsman) and see some old friends. Hopefully I/you will have something to celebrate!!

Looking at your MCAT score, you probably have one of the highest in the nation. Somehow, I'm not too worried about you getting into medical school. lol.

When I spoke to Jane she said that it would probably be three weeks after being deemed complete (but that it used to be more like two). Guess they're getting a little bit backlogged. Understandable.

Anyone know how long it's taking for secondary decisions right now? My fee was received 9/19, e-mail said 4 weeks, and so far nothing. No big deal, but it would be nice to know when to expect some sort of news. 🙂

For what it's worth, I got my secondary on 10/7, about a week after paying the fee.

Try paying the fee on Aug. 27th and STILL nothing.🙄

Interesting. Anyone know how this process works? Do they put some borderline secondary applicants in a different pile for later decision? Did the secondary come via e-mail or snail mail?

I'll call next week if still nothing. Thanks!
