i'm not applying this cycle, but i just found out that the Dalai Lama gets his annual check-up at Mayo.

one more reason i'm crossing my future fingers!

good luck to all of you out there!

So when I frst got the Myao email I decided to delete it since a lot of kids from last cycle just said the money went down the drain.

But then this afternoon I dug it out of the gmail trash and submitted the fees.

They got to me🙁

hahah...well according to the info someone posted...if they interview ppl randomly...you have a 1 in 10 shot of getting interviewed...and 1 in 5 of being asked for LORs.

..but we all know that its not random...and you have to either give up your left nut...or be related to some alumni or faculty members

*I am seriously considering giving up my left nut😛*

Here's what I got after paying:

This is VERBATIM, the tags were there when I copy and pasted. Using Firefox 2.0 for what it's worth.

I got a "fee received" e-mail as well with pretty much the same info. It confirmed that there is no secondary, and that we'll receive an e-mail if they want our LORs. It also said that the application will be considered within four weeks.

Paid my fee today as well. Nearly missed the email because I work at Mayo and it got snagged by one of my mail filters and sent to another folder.

I just got off the phone with the mayo admissions office. I wanted to check out the process for myself. The admissions person gave me this information. The primary IS screened on the basis of GPA & MCAT ONLY!!! Those who make the cut are invited to submit $85 for further review. Those who make this cut are asked to send in letters of reccomendation. Finally, a few interview spots are given out to those who mayo is seriously considering. She gave me these stats from last year:

Initial Applicants: 3900
Applicants that Were told to hand in $85: 2400
Applicants asked to Send in LOR: 500
Applicants interviewed: 250
Applicants accepted: 42 or so.

I know that kind of applicants that mayo must get. Sheesh...hope I make the next few cuts.

okay i know this maybe a stupid question but when it says applicants interviewed, does that mean the actual interview in minnesota or the phone interview?

I thik they did away with the phone interview.

So I guess in 4-6 weeks I should be expecting a rejection or an email to send in some LORs...right?

Did everyone who got the invite to pay have verified AMCAS primaries?

Does anyone know if Mayo sends in batches? About how long was it from verification to "fork over your $85"?

My AMCAS was verified before I got the invite. I'm pretty sure that they are only looking at verified apps, because (from what I hear) they're looking at your entire application (MCAT and GPA included) to decide whether to invite you to pay the fee or not. Before your AMCAS is verified, all they get is your biographical information.

The conformation said 4 weeks for a LOR request or rejection notice. There is no phone interview or secondary.

Those really look like the numbers from two years ago when they still had the phone screening. This past application year they asked 500 applicants for their LORs as well, but interviewed closer to 350. And if you only count MD applicants, there were about 63 acceptances for the 42 spots (21 got in off the waitlist). The year before last there were only 36 MD spots, and a total of 47 or 51 acceptances (11 or 15 off the waitlist - I can't remember which).

:luck:

Did you guys get any sort of email confirmation of payment and if so, how long did it take for you to receive it?

I got a confirmation of payment almost immediately after (automated confirmation), followed by another email the next morning saying they had my payment and would be screening my app in the next 4 weeks.

My school uses VirtualEvals which just sends the packet of letters to all schools I applied to. Is it going to look bad if I request my letters to be sent out from my undergrad school to all my selected schools...including Mayo, which hasn't requested my LORs?

I wouldn't request letters to MAYO unless they ask for it... it won't do you any good and will be a waste of money

Actually it really doesn't matter if you choose to "send" your LORs to Mayo with VirtualEvals before they're requested. With VirtualEvals, they just make the LORs available to the schools rather than sending them copies of each letter. If the school wants to log into the system and download them, they will do that. If they don't want your LORs, then they won't even look at them.

so even if we do get an interview...we still only got a 1/6 shot, damn

It seems to me that their secondary is automatic. I added them to my schools yesterday and received the payment email today. So I paid the $85 to have them review my application and now I hope for the best? There is no secondary correct? Only LOR to be added to my application.

👍 That's what I did when I applied. I had my school make my LORs available via VirtualEvals to all of the schools I checked off on AMCAS (Mayo included). No harm in doing so.

Hmmm still haven't heard anything from Mayo. Do they send these out in batches? I'm applying MSTP so that may be a factor as well.

Just curious, what was number 1?
JHH, I believe.

I need my MCAT score to come in so I can apply without an incomplete primary. I'm getting antsy here! 🙁

Mayo does seem to do things in batches but MSTP is a different set of admissions people and I'm pretty sure they work a little slower, or at least probably on a different schedule that the MD only people. I wouldn't worry about it.

wow, just got my first rejection in the application process from Mayo.

you'd think with a 3.8 gpa, 34 mcat (very evenly spread), and tons of extracurriculars/leadership, they'd at least want to see my LORs...boo.

guess i better get ready for a lot of such negatives!

They sent me an email saying they'd acknowledged my fee on July 15th. I JUST got the rejection. So that means a 7 day turnaround...

I got my email acknowledging the fee on the 12th. Did they really send it at 3 in the morning??? *******s. I want all my rejections to come from 8-9Am, when I first wake up and am most pissed off anyways!!!

watching the ppl that mayo rejected last year, I almost feel as if they pull names out of a hat...so dont give up yet, haha.

If I get rejected though, I better get a hardcopy....Imma frame those Sons of b1tches.

yup, sure enough, some jerk at mayo probably thought it would be kind of fun to send out a middle of the night surprise.

i'm over it though. not exactly a fan of cow/corn town aka rochester.

haha what!? why the hell would you want to do that?
A number of reasons.
1) I paid them money and only an Email just feels like I got ripped off.

2) Imma bring the rejection letter with me when i interview for residencies, so I can show them that they missed out on a chance at having me the previous four years.

3) I like to hold grudges.

hahaha, thats good. Besides, with your stats you dont need mayo.

haha all 3 are good (very well thought out) reasons.

Just got the rejection email from Mayo. My AMCAS was verified by the end of July, and I paid the $85 a week ago, so it was pretty quick.

I'm not sure if I'm surprised...I had a mediocrish GPA (3.5, 3.4 science) and a high MCAT (40N)

Anyways, good luck to those still in the running!
