hmm..Marcy said not to write thank you's if our interviewers didn't give us their cards..she said something about certain people being more private about their e-mails. did your interviewers give you their card or e-mail or did you find them/write them anyway?

I'm just asking because I really wanted to write thank yous but my interviewers did not give me any of their information.

Actually, she said to send thank you cards directly to interviewers only if they gave you their cards. Otherwise, send them to the admissions office by snail mail or email and they will forward them on.
 
hey guys, is it too late to write a letter of intent like a week after your interview? mayo is my #1 choice but i haven't had a chance to write a letter yet (sent thank you's though).

No, the committee likely has not met to discuss your application. You probably have a few weeks before they do.

Hope you guys are all doing well in your interview process and aren't tearing your hair out waiting to hear from Mayo. 😳 I really don't envy the admissions committee - everyone I've hosted or met has been stellar. You guys are a rocking group of applicants!

I'm a 4th year medical student from des moines university hoping to match into Mayo for IM residency and cardiology thereafter. I can tell you with assurance that Rochester is a fine city as well. God willing I may see you there brother. Can't beat free tuition eh?

I was hoping a current Mayo student would be able to answer this question. Does anyone know if students will be in class (or selectives) the week of February 16-20th? I might be in the area and was hoping to attend a class. I wasn't able to sit in on a class during my interview because it was during a selective period. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but first and second years won't be in classes from 2/16-2/27 - we'll be in selectives shadowing, volunteering, doing research, etc. In fact, many of my classmates will be in El Salvador (myself included) or the Dominican Republic on Mayo-organized humanitarian medical missions during that time. The next selective period after that will be 4/13-4/24. So, other than those two selective periods, there would be classes to sit in on for anyone visiting/interviewing soon.
 
Sorry if this has already been discussed before, but what's the maximum recommended length for a letter of intent - is 2 pgs too much? Thanks in advance.

Pink,
Word on the street is that one page (single spaced) is the preferred length. I just sent mine in on Friday via "snail" mail, which should take three days.

Did you interview on the 16th as well?
 
ummmm .... so I just sent my LOI(ntent) to Mayo. But I made a type in the beginning of the letter. I was rushing to the post office to have it sent out today and it's like the very first word of the very first sentence. UGH!!! I'm so irritated. Hoiahsfdopahspoihasopihasoisf

Totally going to make me hate myself for like a month.

Just fix the mistake and email it to Mayo saying that you made a typo and would prefer they put the corrected version in your file. Give Marcy a call in the morning and I am sure she can confirm it was done for you.

I asked Marcy and she said there would likely not be an official second look. Some students from further away were talking about coming as a group and Marcy said she would contact us if it seemed like there was a weekend that was going to have lots of peeps coming.
 
Do you know when Mayo gives scholarship information ? Do they let you know when you get the acceptance call ?

Yes they let you know whether you have been given the 25,000 or 15,000 dollar scholarship when you are offered an acceptance.
 
Does anyone know how many acceptances have been given out? It was 24 before last Friday but I don't know how many went out that day?
 
Yep, they let you know what scholarship you will be given at the call and in the follow-up email. The merit one is now 16,500 and the dean's may be higher as well.

I don't know how many were given out, though.
 
Thanks for the info. Somewhere I read that 40% get the full tuition scholarship and 60% get the lower one. In any case one would need a max of $35K/year. What a deal for the best education.

Yeah, on my interview day Marcy told me that about 60% of the students get 25K scholarships while 40% get 15K scholarships. Typically the larger scholarships go to those who are appointed first, but this is not always the case.

Cast what you said is the opposite of what harate09 said. I have no idea who is right but whatever the case, the scholarship is just icing on the cake. I've pretty much given up hope on Mayo for now, as my guess is Mayo already filled up on my demographic so I'll probably have to wait for the waitlist and hope someone withdraws.

Phoenix got the larger scholarship off a waitlist offer in July last year.
 
I've also been spending the past month trying to convince myself that MCW is a better medical school than UW-Madison, WashU, and Mayo (still not convinced yet 😀), it gets easier over time and if I don't get in MMS I'll try for residency. It was comforting to know that MCW stopped using the dog lab though. I love dogs, especially german shepherds.

How soon after receiving the ranked email are acceptance calls going out? If I interview Jan 12th, how much longer until ranking email? I realize this is standard Marcy-covered info, but I cannot recall. Also, my interview date feels like AGES ago! Anyone else having this phenom while waiting for more info?

Acceptance calls go out once a month (been true thus far), so it depends on when you get ranked, I have no idea which day it will be for February. The ranking for you could be tomorrow, or it could the thursday after, or the thursday after that. It depends on when both of your interviewers can be present at the same adcom ranking meeting.

Let us hope/pray that those who interviewed recently will be ranked at the committee meeting that will commence in mere minutes...
 
good luck. I got the ranking email at 9:30 PM on a thursday night, so at least you won't have to stay up till 1:30 AM or something like the interview invite emails.

Yeah I got mine at about 7:30 west coast time. Good luck....its always exciting to be one step closer to an acceptance.

Not to be a buzz kill, but Mayo very closely guards its name and mark, and would not approve of the creation or sale of those shirts without prior written permission. But I understand where you're coming from. 😳

I was trying to protect his anonymity due to SDN ToS hehe. Gosh I can't wait till I get to have my own dog. Gonna start with a fish tank and move up to a dog once I adjust.

Is Mayo on the two week break right now? You suddenly posted twice in one week!
