We have our immunology/pathology exam next Friday, followed by a two week selective period during which half the class is going to the Dominican Republic or El Salvador for humanitarian medical trips. I was just checking in to see how things were going for you guys.

Have you already been ranked post interview? If so, then another round of appointments will most likely be going out towards the end of the month and then a few more will go out around March 15th. After that the class will technically be full and a wait list or rejection will follow.

I loved Mayo but unfortunately Rochester is not the place for me. I am withdrawing my application today. It was a tough decision for me and I am still sad about it. 🙁

It is definitely my top choice, and I must admit I get this funny happy-jealous sort of feeling anytime some one else gets acceptance there, probably because I want to find myself in that position later this year.

Just talked to Marcy and she said they will be slightly overbooking the class this year. Before March 15th, she stated that about 45-50 appointments will be made. 37 appointments have already gone out as of today.

I checked, and can confirm that five appointments went out on Thursday last week, with a total of 37 appointed so far. Friday is the last day of interviews, and everyone will be ranked by the March 12th meeting if not before. Hang tight guys!

Yes, you have been ranked. If you have not got the "hold" email yet then you were not eligible for appoitments the last time they went out (Thursday). But now you are eligible for appoitnments from here on out. And you still have a great chance at getting in!

No problem. I definitely know how you feel. Despite the fact that I have gotten into a few other schools, Mayo is by far my first choice. I was just blown away.....just like pretty much everyone! Good Luck

Yes, that's true. About 21 people got in off the alternate list last year (you get notification of a rejection or alternate list status shortly after March 15th), which is probably why Marcy mentioned to cast128 that they'll be "slightly overbooking" this year by extending appointments to more than the usual 42 by mid-March (45-50?).

From what I understand, you're equally eligible for consideration and an appointment each time they make them.

I hate to tell it like it is, but yes, applying/interviewing earlier helps. But at this point, your chances at Mayo are no less slim than anyone else's. And there's always the alternate list. Getting in is getting in. It's great to get an October appointment (and a lot less stressful), but in the end, a June appointment is just the same as that October one where it counts.... 😉

Just had a great day at Mayo today! I was in the area for a wedding and decided to make a small side trip down the Rochester for the day. I was able to sit in on a morning lecture and LOVED it! You could really get a feel for how the professors cared about their students and the class dynamics were awesome.....it felt very similar to many of my college classes. I have sat in on a lecture at almost every school I have interviewed at and this was a very unique experience. It just got me more excited about Mayo. AWWWW......please let me in!

Yeah, the oregon trail was fun. I was sitting on the other side of the room (nervously asking about just how long that beast would be).

While a few students live in houses near the gym or St. Mary's, or in townhouses further out, the majority of our class lives in three buildings near the school: Rochester Towers (right on 2nd St. two blocks due west of the school), and two buildings right next to each other a couple of blocks north-east from the clinic: Riverview and Civic Square (both near 1st St NE and 1st Ave NE). There are also a couple of students who bought apartments in the top of the Holiday Inn who can come to class in shorts in the winter because they're connected to Mayo via the subway. Lucky ducks!
