UC Irvine
Pros:
Cheap tuition and Close to family- SoCal
Stay in the UC system - Easier to match to CA school for residency?
Plan to practice in CA

Cons:
H/P/F during 2nd year
standard 2 year-preclinical curriculum
Research opportunities- lesser than Mayo
T50 vs T15

Mayo:
Pros:
1.5 year P/F pre-clinical
Excellent Research opportunities
Small class (personal attention)
Generous merit aid brings COA comparable to UCI.

Cons:
Students say it is difficult to get Honors in clinical rotations
Mandatory attendance and dress code
Weather- very hot summers
Less diverse patient population?

I'd go to UCI too. Great school, support system nearby, very diverse in terms of colleagues and patients, enough research opportunities, beautiful year-round weather, very nice area. It's four years, support system and desirable location can be beneficial.

You can't go wrong there but for me, I'd lean UCI.

I have heard that Mayo Clinic internally ranks for pre-clinical even though it is P/F. I am not entirely sure, but worth checking.
