they ask the following

Write a brief paragraph explaining why you are specifically applying to the
Mayo Clinic Medical Scientist Training Program.

are we supposed to include details like specific professors and programs at Mayo that we're interested in?

Thanks

They have a very low yield of accepted students to matriculants. They want to know you are seriously interested in attending the program (eg; if you get in, do you have real reasons you would go to Mayo vs other potentially more attractive locations?).

There are many reasons why you may want to go to Mayo. For instance, they have a unique culture in which they take much pride. They have a unique curriculum. And so on. They would very much like it if you did a summer research program there and would like to come back (eg: you know the place and have a high chance of matriculating, if you are a good enough candidate to begin with). You may be from the mid-west. You may have family ties. You may like frostbite. The points you listed are also appropriate.

It is an asinine question for most applicants because everyone shotguns applications rather than pick 1-2 schools to apply. Eg, if you have real reasons, great. If not, BS it.
