I'd think a week past that would probably be the busiest time for the wait list. Afterwards, it seems as though only those with personal reasons for giving up their seat would do so.

I think the first week is the busiest time for waitlist, but a lot of people will also leave later than that if they get off a waitlist at a school they prefer later in the summer.

Mrs. D Do yall anticipate much movement after about May 20? Since the 15th is the day people with multiple acceptances have to decide on one, I'd think a week past that would probably be the busiest time for the wait list.

Just to consider:

Erica at Emory said just about every year, at the end of the day on the 15th, their class is still overfilled. May 15th may be "the day" for those of us waiting for spots at our top schools, but a lot of people will still procrastinate and linger on holding onto multiple spots. Look at last year's official waitlist movement thread (Link) -- a lot of the "action" is in late May

If you get wait listed at MCG or Mercer you've got a pretty good chance. I know for a fact that neither school gives out more acceptances than they have places in the class. Therefore, one person who drops their acceptance is a spot for one of us. Good luck!

i think the waitlistees at mercer have a better chance than those at mcg. it seems that mercer has a shorter list of people on theirs, so most people who get on the waitlist actually have a really good chance of getting pulled off for an acceptance. the waitlist is probably much larger at mcg, meaning only the top-ranked people are going to get pulled off. if sdn is any indication, sounds like almost(?) everybody who got an interview has been waitlisted.

Well MCG also has a class that's >3X the size of Mercer so they have much more opportunity to go into theirs. Whereas Mercer may go 30 deep, MCG will go 70+ deep.

This is true, but I am beginning to think that if you interviewed at MCG you at least got wait listed. If someone has other info. please post. I know with Mercer, they let relatively few people on their list. And they may only go 30 deep, but thats pretty good if there are only 35 or 40 people on the wait list.

The other thing to keep in mind is that most people who were borderline at MCG or even Emory could probably get in at Mercer and would use it as a "backup" school. Mercer is truly my top choice, but I have a lot of reasons other than academics and finances! Lets face it, if you could be $80,000 instead of $175,000 in debt for (what some would consider) a more prestigous education why wouldn't you choose MCG? I'm banking on a lot of people using that line of reasoning. I mean my own parents who have known for years that Mercer was my top choice tell me I'd be crazy to choose it over MCG!

I thought someone above stated that they knew someone who got rejected? I don't think that literally everyone gets waitlisted. Obviously their waitlist is much great as they are known to go 50-70 deep into it. I'd guess they waitlist about 100-ish people. Only about 10-20 people on this site are posting on this particular thread, we're not exactly the most diverse sample of applicants out there. I mean our GPAs are probably all within a few tenths of a point of eachother and our MCATs are probably within 3-5pts of eachoter (with a few outliers I am sure). At any rate, I hope that everyone doesn't automatically get waitlisted, that wouldn't show much thought on their part and it'd be a pain in the ass to rank people on a 200 person waitlist.

Good point....and certainly something to be hopeful about!

Yes lets all maintain hope at this point. Does anyone know if they'll at least give you a ball park figure of your rank on the waitlist if you ask? I mean I don't want to know if I am number 5 or number 99, but I'd like to know if I am in the top 50 or so. I mean if you knew you were in a range that normally gets called to participate in the school wouldn't you like to know so that you can perhaps look into housing and other such factors so that you could make a more education decision about where to go? For me going to Mercer would be easy (since I could live at home, etc. so I wouldn't have to worry about those arrangements) but I'd at least like to examine both possibilities.

no, they keep the ranking top secret, like everything else so far.

so... HAS ANYBODY GOTTEN PULLED OFF THE WAITLIST YET??
hah.

Im sure MCG send quite a few post-interview rejections. Id think not many rejectees are posting their experiences on this thread.
I think schools generally waitlist about twice the amount they expect to get pulled off of it. Thsi way they cover their bases if it is a fluke year.
190 straight acceptances + 140-150 waitlists= 340.... Another 100-150 people Id assume get a post interview rejection.
Not that any of this matters now... Good luck waitlisters.

Well obviously they don't broadcast they they'll give out waitlist ranking, but I was wondering if anyone had called and asked, and if so what did they tell you? I know that other schools keep it top secret officially but sometimes if you call and ask they'll give you a rough idea of where you stand.

out of curiosity anyone know of anyone who has been accepted to mcg and mercer and is choosing MCG.

No, but in fairness this cycle has just begun. We'll start to see the movement in the next month or so.

After being waitlisted last year, I spoke with Dr. Thompson on a couple different occasions where he seemed to hint to me that I may get an acceptance later on down the line (I spoke with him in April, and he kept telling me to be on the lookout for all the waitlist movement in May). I kind of took that as having a pretty good chance at getting pulled off the list. That never happened, and here I am again this year on that same waitlist. Don't read in to anything you hear from anyone, I think it is all totally random and MCG does a great job at keeping things under wraps (unfortunately).

Did he ever tell you where on the list you were? Top 50? Top 100? Or just say "Be on the lookout for the waitlist movement in May"?

bracehead,

I have been accepted to both mcg and mercer...i havent fully decided yet, but i believe i will be going to mcg. why do you ask?

We're waiting to be accepted off the waitlist at Mercer. 🙂

Alright people, Im getting some information this weekend for us!

Answers to our questions: How many are on it, how many should get in, what can we do, etc....

Waitlisters,

What are your plans for the summer? Anyone considering August MCAT?

I want to talk with Dr. Thompson first before I make any plans for the summer if I don't get into MCG.

i have finals & research papers to turn in first week of may, then i am going to study for the august mcat.
pretty sad that i would have to retake to boost my chances. studying for the mcat is the pits!! don't believe everybody on this board who says you can get in to "some med school" with a 30 mcat! ( i am retaking with a 30... well, maybe i just am not a good "overall" candidate and have to overcompensate a little with a better score.)

I just got done with the April MCAT today. I refuse to take August no matter what. I just got some shadowing set-up for May. Continuing research and if all goes well I might have a publication submitted by the end of summer.

That stupid test has wasted three saturdays of my life and an entire semester of preparation through a $1500 Kaplan course that amounted to me making a 24! I hate that test worse than the Fundamentals of Engineering exam I took last April which was closer to 10 hours long and a requirement for graduation. My current score IS good enough. I've known MANY people who passed the boards, graduated med school, got into great residencies, etc. etc. with lower MCAT scores than mine. I will NOT be retaking the MCAT.

This summer, I plan to work until the first of June, and then move to Atlanta in mid-June if I don't hear from Mercer or MCG by then. We'll see what happens.

GADoc,
why the move to ATL in mid june did u get off the waitlist at MSM.

I wish...but no, I'm going to start making plans to attend GA-PCOM. Part of me would love to keep thinking that spending another year re-applying would get me in, but its too great a risk: I'm fixing to be 24, and that seems old to me. I'm coming up on one full year of being out of school. My study skills are wasting and my science courses aren't as fresh as they were. GA-PCOM will be as expensive as Mercer or Morehouse, so cost is not too much a concern. And in the end, I think I've become convinced that landing the perfect residency depends more on an individual's performance than on the name of the school. PCOM is just a means to an end. Plus, I don't want neurosurgery or derm. I just want to be some kind of small town Georgia doc and PCOM is as likely to get me there as Mercer. Of course, I will remain on all three wait lists (Mercer, MCG, Morehouse), but I have to start planning. Good luck to all yall!

I'm guessing gagator hit the same wall that is the admission office that the rest of us have hit.

this wl needs to start moving

GAdoc said:
Anybody heard anything, or know someone to get off the wait list yet?

well i just talked to somebody in the admissions office, and i don't know how reliable it is, but she said they have just gotten through with sending the waitlist letters, and the wiatlist has NOT moved yet. (unlike mercer, which has reports of "lots of movement" already.)

also she said waitlistees who get off the list will get a phone call or email from ms. esther holland or somebody like that.

From what I heard...the movement has started...although not that much.

oh. do you have friends who got off the waitlist?

so, has anybody heard of any movement on the waitlist yet...?

this is random, but does anyone know how MCGs teaching style works exactly? Is it more of a self learning if you want? Are you required to go to all classes? Are there note taking services if you learn better on your own? Just wondering....
(also how does MCG's teaching style compare to Emory's?)

Emory's is better. Go there please.
