HI...

I know these kind of posts could get annoying, but I am curious to know if anyone who have interviewed at MCG (Medical College of Georgia) have heard back from them yet.

I thought the committee should have met more than a month ago, yet I still haven't heard from them...

thanks🙂

I'd like to know also...if anyone has any info it would be appreciated.

I heard through the grapevine that they had a committee meeting last Thurs or Friday...so maybe they sent out some letters this week ? anyone know for sure ?

pythagoras...just remember, no letter at all in your case for several months is not a bad thing. FRIW, two-three weeks is the average wait for people right after their interview....

Even if it's just us few who are really interested in MCG, let's keep this updated as we hear about interviews, acceptances/rejections, committee hear-says, etc. on MCG news.

I interviewed at MCG 2 weeks ago and they told us that they were going out of town for a conference the following week and that the committee would not meet. So I think that this past Thursday (yesterday, the 13th) was the first day they met for regular applicants. If they change your status to reject or accept they said that they would send a letter/packet in about 3-4 working days after that. They also said that they had a great early decision program this year and accepted 70 E.D. applicants. So I guess the rest of us are fighting for 110 spaces.

Everyone keep their fingers crossed for a good letter/packet next week.
Good luck

I dount the EDP applicant stats this year were much higher. They just decided to take more people. I know a good number of 3.4/27 types who got in edp. It's easieer to get in edp with these numbers at MCG than in the regular cycle.

but dang, 70 slots.......

It kind of scares me now to think about how many MCG slots are really open. There are 180 total. 70 one to EDP take the number down to 110. They've already accepted A BUNCH(probably 60 at least of april mcaters who have already interviewed. That means us August interviews are basically fighting for 50 or so open spots right now. I have a 11/11/10, a 3.87, good EC's, and I don't think i should be penalized so heavily fighting for table scraps because something came up and I was unable to take the april mcat and apply EDP.

(Of course slightly more than 180 will eventually be accepted, but the number of people who will opt out of MCG for emory and other schools is never certain)

I don't think they've accepted anyone else besides the EDP people. The 110 slots are probably still open. I interviewed on oct. 13 and they told me that they'd meet the week after, but I guess they didn't. This application process exhausted me already.🙄

Yeah, from my understanding they just started interviewing Regular applicants in mid-October---I doubt many spaces have been filled. Keep a cool head and a positive outlook.

I talked to one of the adcom members and she told me they gave 60 EDs out. So, I do not know which is right, but she was very direct in her answer.

I am interviewing there next week. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Actually, during our lunch with the admissions office they specifically said tha there were 70 out. As for your interview, relax-it is a very nice, low stress day. Everyone is nice and helpful. MCG is a great school and I had a great day their. Hope your interview goes well!

I can't remember who I heard this from do definitely take this with a grain of salt. Even though ~180 matriculate, they will ultimately hand out a little more than 300 acceptances (some will decline and will get in off the waitlist, obviously). You can't really do anything about it, so I'd try not to get nervous or angry.

Let us know what you all find out. And be glad you are in the running....I haven't heard word one, except a "thanks for your application" letter. I want to be there next year, but the timing is not in my hands. It will work out how it is supposed to, even if it doesn't go my way. What part of the state are ya'll applying from? Me, extreme southwest GA.

I would think that MCG should have sent out their first batch of acceptances by now ?

I would think that they'd accepted some regular decision by now. Keep us posted.

Ok. This is what I can tell ya'll from MCG. I was there yesterday for an interview. For those that already interviewed: the adcom meets Dec 11, but this is the only time until Jan. My committee member said that due to the fact that they want to do more interviews before giving many acceptances in might be Jan or Feb until we will hear back from them. So, no need to worry until later. As far as the people that have not interviewed: again they are probably going to do more in Jan and Feb. He said this was when they start to do a lot of action on the regular decision people. So, do not worry you should most likely hear things around Jan or Feb. As my adcom member told me- Do not give up on us!

hope this helps with some of the anxiety. 🙂 🙂 🙂

So ecranda (how are you by the way?), does this mean that they have not accepted any regular decision applicants yet?

Thanks
😉

They have, but just the very best. The people with the super high MCATs and the perfect grades, with the awesome personality. Which from what he was saying was not to many people. So again, plenty of spots left and no need to worry yet.

I am doing great. I loved the interview. I posted it on the feedback place, so it is for the 11-21 so anyone can look at it. I IMed you, so reply and we can talk there.

I was there yesterday for an interview

I was there yesterday too! The changes they're making to their curriculum are what impressed me the most. Though I want to go to school up north, it's going to be hard to pass up MCG due to their cheap tuition. Goodluck and hope you get in.

BTW, my interviewer (the ad committee one) told me that they do have a hell of lot of spots left. So no one should worry right now.

ecranda, I interviewed on monday, and Dr. Thompson said their next meeting would be on thursday the 20th of Novermber. Not that this would affect the friday interviewers, but just wanted to let the earlier people know that there has been one meeting recently. (three days after my interview)

Also, you're correct that they meet every two weeks on thursday and that they will skip a meeting on thanksgiving thursday so the next will be two weeks after that. Good luck!!

DMBUGA34, who where you? I was the one from Emory with the longer hair. Where you the guy that went to Wisconcin?

I know now! So wierd! Good luck with all those interviews. I know you had a lot and possibly many more with all those schools you applied to. Let me know when you interview at Emory, I can possibly answer some questions or show you some of the stuff around that they do not.

Best of Luck, you will do great!

so has anyone with an 11/17 or 11/20 interview heard anything yet? I got the "thanks for interviewing" letter in the mail today.......everyone else interviewing aroudn this time getting this letter today? Or have some already gotten an acceptance with a mid-nov int date?

hey.

i got an acceptance letter today. i interviewed on oct 13.

i hope you guys get yours soon too🙂

I'll keep my fingers crossed for some good news on monday when the mail comes...

I got mine on 11-29-03 also (We must have been in the Nov 20th meeting). I interviewed 10-31-03

Good luck to everyone.

interviewed on 11/31 and accepted 11/29? wow, how did you do that? hehe:laugh:

i think they have one big mailing at the end of november. i interviewed the first day possible but got my acceptance on friday, which was almost a two month gap. so they must have just gotten together and hashed out all the people who have interviewed so far at once...

good luck to all!

For those who were accepted, where in the state of GA do you reside ?

Random question:

Are there any Wi-fi hotspots at MCG? I have an interview there soon, and thought I'd bring my laptop to try and get some wireless internet action while I wait for my interviews.

I tried looking it up on the MCG website, but had no luck. Neither the library or the IT links gave me the info I wanted.

Thanks,

Pythag, we've seenone friday and one satirday...that 1 day variable is pretty much going to be it as fas as delivery variability within the usps goes in the state of ga.......so Monday(and several days after) are pretty much out for us.

So........now the question is...when does the committee meet again?

You may want to pass on the laptop and the Wi-Fi

During the waiting period you normally talk with the other applicants. It may not look good if you were deep into your laptop or you interviewer comes out of his/her office only to see you surfing the web.

Just my $0.02.

Good luck on your interview😎

I also got the "thank you for interviewing" letter last Friday. I interviewed on 11-20 and they told us that the committee meets again on Dec. 11.

Yeah, but I interviewd there last year and I waited a REALLY long time. After awhile, we kind of ran out of things to say. If the conversation keeps going, of course I won't dig into the comp. I just wanted to do something as a backup, and yes, I know I can always bring a book.

So I guess with the committee meeting again on thursday(Dec11) by all accounts, the next huge "mail box check day" is going to be Friday the 19th and Saturday the 20th of december. Dang thats a long wait.....

For those already accepted, whats the acceptance enevelope look like?

Great news on the acceptances guys!!!!

Good Job! Ya'll are going to be doctors! YEAH!!!

I am so happy for ya'll! 🙂 🙂 🙂

The envelope is bigger than a regular letter size, but smaller than a big manila envelope. and it's thick.

good luck!

So has anyone heard anything today or yesterday? wondering what day they will send next batch of acceptances out if they haven't already since the alst adcomm meeting last thursday......

I've received nothing. I'm hoping I get something either Friday or Saturday, but I wouldn't be surprised if I don't get anything until next week. The mail might get delayed or something this time of the year

so for all of us who interviewed roughly a month+ ago and are waiting, did anyone get a letter friday, saturday, or today? I'm starting to feel more and more like I'm going to be waiting another 4 months and then pull a waitlist letter out in april, but at least it's christmas season now 🙂

I interviewed towards the middle/later of November and recieved my acceptance letter over a week ago. One of the applicants I interviewed with did as well. FWIH they met before going off for xmas break and presented all the October and November interviews who had yet to be presented. So if no acceptance letter yet, that doesn't really have to mean you were rejected outright. It does mean you won't be getting anything in the mail from MCG for at least march though. You could have been put on their alternate list, in which case you'll recieve a letter later in march or april. Good luck. Over 40 people got in last year on the alternative list so don't give up hope.

Wow. That's pretty sombering news from my perspective, but congratulations on getting into such a good school. I'm sure you will love it there. Are you planning on going? Are there really only 40 people taken off the waitlist?

Yes I am going to mcg meanderson. It's the only school I applied to. It's not all about stats at MCG. That's just a small part of the picture. At MCG clinical experience means a lot more than stats. They love to see lots of shadowing and lots of work in healthcare. If you have decent stats and didn't get an acceptance letter, it's because your clinical experience and shadowing experience was not impressive.

southbelle: You seem very rude! SDN is a place for support, not a place to brag and put people down. I hope you do not bring this type of behavior to medical school, because you will find yourself very lonely! So please do not judge others and act as if you are the teller of all truths. Unless you are a voting member of the adcom, you have no right or knowledge to be telling us how MCG is!

I am glad to hear about your acceptance, but you need a reality check. I would hate to think some one so arrogant was going to be a doctor!

If you did not mean to portray yourself in this manner, then realize that this is how you are displaying yourself and fix it!

Uh, I hope this wasn't some random flame, because I found nothing rude or pretentious in her post.
