Is this like essay? How much u wrote?

Hey congrats!!!:luck:

Can you share when they interviewed and got acceptance? I also had an interview last week and still waiting for their reply. So tensed:scared::xf:

hey congrats to all, I am a P1 at MCPHS-Manchester.... since we are a joint class and there is no class of 2012 thread on here, I figured I would just let people know to message me if there are any questions. I havent been on here in a while studying for school but Ill have a month break and will take some time to answer a few questions from nervous interviewees, I know it really helped last year. Oh and btw, I have read some threads in respect to Manchester and some of it is not true, not all classes are thought from Wor, in fact pathophys is taught from Manchester, which is one of your 4 credit classes in the fall. I like the fact that are class is small (54 in Manchester) has lead us to study together and we for the most part try to help each other. Im not saying that doesnt happen in Wor, but for me it was a good fit, and I didn't want to go to Wors, I guess its really personal preference.

To the people commenting on interviews, I dont know about Wor, but in Manch, I think a lot of people that they interview they are interested in taking to be blunt. They want to meet you and see how you do in an interview and how you write and whatnot, as a pharmacist it will be important. However, there are some people in the class that English is a second language and that still didnt preclude them at all... you have to take a writen and language proficiancy exam when you start and if you dont do well you have to go to a few (i think 3?) conferences to brush up.

In respect to the program, everyone learns different BUT a few thoughts, suggestions, ideas for what its worth. DONT go in and think that since you did great in undergrade that its going to be a breeze. I had a 3.9 gpa as an undergrad, plus I had a masters degree, and I still thought it was hard and I had to constantly dedicate myself to make sure that I was still getting good grades. ALL the p2's have told me to do well the first year and boost your GPA as high as possible because your second year is harder with theraputics... One class that hit a lot of people for the p1's was US healthcare, I actually liked the class because of my background, but Professor Lahoz is very tricky and picky on her exams, you MUST read the book, and I implore you to read and keep up with it. In the fall you will have 20 exams and 6 finals, so even if you dont do well on one, you still have a chance to rebound, but dont try to play catchup. Its a good feeling taking a final and know that even if you get a 40, you'd still pass the class, is a huge stress release

anyway, enough for now, but congrats again and for the ones that do end up in Manch class of 2012, I will be seeing you in the fall

Plus Manchester has nice big tables to sit at, and what appear to be very comfortable padded chairs.. I'm so jealous.

Hey all, I am also accepted for 2012 class(Worcester campus)😍, any suggestion for housing🙄
on campus housing or off-campus I am not sure where to stay. For a girl which option is better>>😕

Yea! Congrats!!

I'm living off-campus because I can't picture going back to a dorm life after living on my own. Living on your own is awesome. There are a couple apartment complexes a few blocks away from the school...just check apartments.com and such. I don't know how much finanical aid we're getting for living expenses though. HRm! You may get more if you're on your own. It's not like on-campus comes with a meal plan or anything.

I agree!! In therapeutics, everyone has different sets of papers flying around, and we often look at the big screen and envy manchester how they can spread out everything... grrr... sometimes i wish i could just sit on the floor! hahahh...

Yall count me in also for the 2012 class. Congrats to everyone....Look forward to meeting you all. Take care........

That was what I was told when I called last year. It could mean anything but in my case I got an interview letter. I understand the anxiety to find out because I went through the same thing. I wish you all the best of luck buddy....Let just hope and pray.....

Hi,

For those of you who have been accepted, congrats! I sent in my application around Thanksgiving and received confirmation from MCPHS that they received everything a few weeks ago. Now, I was just wondering if the interview letter comes via email or regular mail because I haven't heard anything yet and am worried I somehow missed something. Thanks!

Invitation letter comes via regular mail. Good luck👍

I sent my supplemental in on the 7th of January and got an interview invite yesterday. Im interviewing on the 23rd of next month. I am so excited that I have an interview and am trying to prep for stuff in hopes that I get accepted. Is anyone not planning on living right near campus? My family lives 40 mins from campus and it would be SO much cheaper for me to commute and live at home then to pay rent somewhere. Am I the only one who's thinking about this?

We have many commuters, most who live in the area. I drive between 1-1.5 hrs and know at least 3 other people who drive at least an hour. I don't think 40 mins would be a big deal. It seems nice to have the extra time by living on campus, and just have to walk downstairs to go to class though, but the drive is worth the money I save, and staying close to my friends/family/boyfriend. FYI Traffic on I290 is crappy in the morning.

Hey Swift... do you mind if I ask what your stats were. I just submitted my application (really late in the game I know)... just wondering if I possibly still have a chance. Also, did anyone here get accepted w/ alot of withdrawals on their transcript. I got quite a few before i was pre-pharm. I had no idea they might matter one day. Congrats to those who have been accepted:laugh:! Hopefully I'll see you in the fall.

I had a couple withdrawls, but they were from about 7 or so years prior to my application. I explained them with my application, and at my interview. (I had no concept that they would matter one day either🙂

Just wondering if anyone had been accepted into the program without a degree?

FOR CURRENT STUDENTS, I just have few questions that if anyone can answer, I would appreciate it alot.

Is it duable to work part time while going to pharmacy school? How many hours a day do you spend studying? Would you happen to know the % of students who pass the NAPLEX their first time from this school? I'm from CA, so would I have to take a different NAPLEX exam if I want to work in CA but went to school in MA?

Keep in mind.. I'm only a P1. This is just my personal experience so far..

Quite a few people I know work 1 day/week. I got a job to do the same, but I haven't started yet, so I don't know how that is. Study times vary largely. I spend a few hours some days, no hours others, and 8 hours some days. It all depends on the subject, when the impending exam is, what else I have to do, and how efficient my brain is working that week. It also depends on the student, and what type of grades you are aiming for. It is very manageable, and I hate studying, always have. I know people who do a ton more than I do, and people who do way way less. Last years' grads had something like 113/115 students pass the NAPLEX their first time. We have many students from CA, but I'm not sure if it is a diff exam. You will learn MA law though, so learning CA law for that exam will be on your own. Hope this helps.

wats the transportation system like in worcester,, like can you really get by without a car?

question to current students:
what are the consequences of failing a class in any particular semester? do one needs to repeat the whole semester again or whole year or just that class?

Each class builds on another and there is block scheduling so that is the only time that class will be offered in your year. If you fail one class, you can not move on to the next semester. You stay back the whole year, take that class again and then are able to progress with the class a year behind you.

so one only needs to repeat the failed class, not all the classes in that semester like in medical school?

I drove via rental car to the interview but I am not sure how I would be getting from the airport to the school for move in since it is quite far. Anyone have ideas? I heard a taxi can cost up to $200 because worcester is ~40 miles away from both the boston and rhode island airport.

I got my interview on feb 18th. Do you all think it is very late to get in to the program or i still have some chance to get in to the program? Since many of you got accepted veery soon, I was wondering if they have any more seats left for fall 09 or not?
Congrates to those who got accepted and please reply i m very anxious about the interview plus english is not my native language either. have few accent too so please help me figuring out about my future at mcphs-w.

The committee should be about halfway filled for 2009, since they had started in November. I think they're accepting 200-250 students this year in both Manchester and Worcester, from what I heard during the information session. Good luck at your interview.

If you fail a class, you would only repeat that class, but be held back a year.

Hello any current students! Help!

I don't want to live on campus during my education at MCP, but the way their financial aid website makes it sound, you don't get any money for housing unless you are going to receive a bill from MCP for this housing (i.e. you get money if you're living on campus).

Do you get ANYTHING if you're living off campus for housing?? What about things like car payments and car insurance?!

I'm pretty darn freaked out about not being able to go because of lack of funds. I know I can only get so much in student loans, and I'm afraid they won't let me cover other bill payments.

Thanks! :xf:

you don't get any more money living on campus (esp since there isn't enough room here for everyone) call financial aid if I have questions

Is there any way to prepare for pharmacy school??

Sorry I am the only one answering questions lately.. everyone here is soo busy right now. I hope you realize that my opinion may be different from other students, and that I am only a P1, so my experience is different than the P2/P3s. But anyways..

I wanted to prepare for pharmacy school and all the threads on here said to just chill out and relax. That is my advice. If you want to brush up on things you could review A&P, esp muscle physiology and action potential in nerves. You could also learn the top 200 brand/generics. But you will be taught this information a certain way so most everything else I wouldn't recommend. These few things might give you the feeling that you are prepared.. but if you got in, you are at the basic level of prepared. If you have weak areas in yourself like communication (verbal and written) you could work on that. You could also get some pharmacy experience if you haven't already. These are suggestions for those who absolutely want to do something. But again, my advice is to do nothing.. hang out with your friends, go to the beach, laze around and watch tv... all while you can!!!lol

Ugh!! To answer my own question for everyone, I emailed someone at financial aid. Not only do you get nothing to help with personal bills, like car payments, car insurance, etc, but you don't even get your money for books and living expenses until end of September or October. So...those of us on our own with full time jobs as our only source of income...we're going to essentially be working until the day before class starts 🙁🙁🙁

let me help her a bit here.... lol...

the best way to prepare for pharmacy school is to work as a technician before you get into school. Go there, don't worry about the top200, just work the best you can, even if it's just counting. The drugs that you count again and again, those are most likely part of your top200. Be a motivated worker, don't just passively count, get familiar with wat the bottle or pills look like (most of the time, people learn better by having an image of it in their head), get familiar with the generics or brand names, whether it's usually a tablet or capsule.. ask the pharmacist what it's generally used for.. get a bit familiar with pharmacy law...

general things, not hardcore things, can still get you a long way in pharmacy school.

They say that you can borrow private loans or whatnot to cover for outside of the bill-expenses.. i had to start pulling from my savings.. and i'm sure i wasn't the only one!

I saved for the year prior to starting and paid off everything I could prior to quitting my job. I worked overtime to the max. My last day at work was the day before orientation... and I def would have worked as a tech before coming to school if I could go back and do it again!! Many people here own houses, have car payments, etc. They take out gradplus loans, private loans, etc, to cover what they haven't saved for.

Do you have to pay these private loans back as soon as you get them like a regular private loan, or can these be deferred as well? I know a lot of lenders are pulling private school loans.

I wish I could have saved up! Unfortunately, my company won't allow anyone to work overtime and I'm living paycheck to paycheck. I can't wait to not have to worry about THAT in a few years, let me tell you

I don't know how they work. All I borrowed was stafford for tuition.

yay! i'm going to be attending the worcester campus too! jsut sent my deposit in this morning.

i will be commuting to school. looking to live somewhere around clinton or hudson, so i've got about 30-40 minutes to drive each way. basically, trying to find a good location close enough for me to drive, and realistic for my fiance to drive to reading for work.

as far as loans go...i guess i'll see what i can get thru fafsa, and then cover the rest in any way possible. don't stress too much, you'll find a way. i know that i'll be working right up to the week before orientation. and i've got my wedding in july to worry about as well. busy year!

ok congrats for all...

I will be moving to Worcester, MA. How much is the average rent in Worcester? Whats a reasonable price to pay for rent off-campus? for one bedroom appt or even a studio?? Because we talkin about $850 a month for an on-campus studio! Will it be cheaper that that off-campus? Any ideas?

Also, how important is the pharmacy experience? I don't have any experience so far!! Does that mean classes will be much harder for me than students with experience??

Is a car a must? or you can make it using public transportation??

i have no pharmacy experience either. and i'm not going to, since i really need to work my full time job right up to the end. we'll figure it out together 🙂

as for apartments in the worcester area...i would guess $700-900 would be a normal price range for a studio/one-bedroom. sure, it's similar to on-campus prices, but it's YOUR OWN PLACE. you can have as many people over as you want. as late as you want. with as many pets as you want 🙂 i'm not sure how great the public transportation is, but the bus system in boston is great, and i would think that worcester would be comparable. it's not an affluent city, so i would think alot of people depend on the bus to get around.

i haven't been accepted or interviewed (will be in march), but on the mcphs website it says that the priority date for financial aid is march 15. should i be filling anything out to secure something or just wait to hear back after the interview? sheeesh the cost of living is the only disadvantage to this school. i personally cannot go anywhere but massachusetts. i really enjoy it up there. anyway, i would be grateful for any advice you have to offer me. congrats to those who got in! hope to see you all in the fall.

Amen, amen and then AMEN to the having your own place being worth every penny. It's not like you get a meal plan on campus! That's a good price range estimate from what I've been looking at. I refuse to live anywhere but in an apartment complex. Renting from Joe Schmoe is cheaper, but paying the extra couple hundred a month knowing you have 24 hour maintenance and knowing you probably won't have to sue your landlord to get your deposit back (yeah, been there, done that, won!) is worth every penny as well.

Worcester is not even close to comparable to Boston, unfortunately. I wouldn't trust the public transportation there to be on time or even show up (from what I know about Providence). Also, Worcester isn't exactly the nicest city, and I wouldn't want to be waiting by a bus stop at night, alone, praying the thing shows up...no matter what gender.

I'm planning on living 15-20 minutes outside Worcester with my then-husband, 2 cats, and 2 ferrets. It's a small commute, but a big difference in rent and overall a more cozy feeling than some of the skeeziness of Worcester. The area around the school isn't too bad, but...everywhere else seems to be 🙄.

And yeah, no pharm experience here, either. We'll all definitely work together! I don't get a strong sense of competition here, which is great. We're a team!

Definitely fill out that FAFSA now! You don't have to be accepted or even to have applied to fill it out and have them send it to MCPHS. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
Go get yo monies! 😀

Hey Ritalin,,I read your post it is very helpful. I am an international student, do know anyone who is an international student in this program. I need some guidance from them.
