MCPHS (Worcester)--Fall 2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You definitely want to attend the interview. My GPA is higher than yours only by 0.2. If you ever worry about the interview process, don't be. It was very relaxed, and the faculty asked some of the basic questions, such as why pharmacy and how to prepare for a 3-year program. Well at least that was my case. I received the acceptance letter one week later. There were about 4 or 5 people who also had the interview on the same day as mine, but they interviewed people individually. Overall, it was a very comfortable environment. Best of luck!!

Who cares who got the highest or lowest gpa. You do not go up to your pharmacist at the drug store and say what was your gpa before and after pharmacy school. Who cares. Just focus on trying to make your self stand out overall.

I just got an interview invitation. Does anyone know how many people they interview? My GPA is on the lower side (3.2) and I'm debating as to what my chances are and if I should go to the interview. Can someone help me out!

How many people that interview with you does not matter. You just come prepared.

Anyone knows what is the average GPA for accepted students for the last incoming class? I know that MCPHS-Worcester accepts students with a degree. Thanks!

Word of wisdom. Stop comparing what happened last year. The way MCPHS is interviewing this year is a little different from last year. Your class will be ted bit different from mine. So just worry about getting in and forget the past. Focus on the future people.

Hi Blacjaguar,

I will be attending Worcester in fall 2010. My situation is such that I will be really busy in summer and want to get books now. I know that books maybe different for each year, but I was wondering if you would be able to give me a list of books that you guys are using in P1 (it will give me some idea). Also would you recommend any prof. to contact with such questions.

Thank you,

Yes, yes, wait until the Worcester students get to this forum...here we are!!! (Well, ok, here I am).

After a long couple weeks of exams I am finally able to surf SDN a bit while waiting for my pumpkin pie to bake. And what do I find? No surprise...MCPHS-bashing. This phrase should be put into the dictionary, because it seems like there are ridiculous amounts of people out there everywhere who bash the heck out of this school. I have no idea why.

Thank goodness a hundred times over that I didn't listen to these people and that I applied and got in. And yes, correspondence was via email for the admissions process. Do you know how many applications they're sifting through right now? And with the holidays coming up? Have patience and respect...and for goodness sake, use real grammar and punctuation. I know you can, you're applying to professional school. Act like it.

The professors are amazing and helpful. There are student councilors, academic support, fellow students who feel like a team...what more could you want? I'm doing fine. In fact, I'm doing really really well. Now, granted, I'm a first year just finishing up the first semester, so I haven't gotten to the crazy hard stuff yet, but this isn't easy either. I study at least 10+ hours for each exam (not each day...I split it up) and don't go out drinking with my buddies. I find time to watch plenty of TV and relax because I manage my time well. As long as you're willing to hunker down and study and put yourself really into it, then you'll do amazing here. The professors are unhelpful ONLY if you give them attitude or don't care. Would you help a student talking smack about you to your face? No. They help me because I respect them and want to be helped. They help me in person or through email, whichever I prefer.

It's only a bad school if you expect everything to be handed to you on a silver platter. Wake up and smell the professional school. They tell you the expectations the first days of orientation and they haven't deviated yet.

If anyone wants any details about the Worcester program, feel free to message me. I might take a wee bit to get back to you because finals are coming up, but I'll be more than happy to help out.

:luck::luck::luck: to everyone!!

Congrats on your acceptance! What day did you interview? I believe I interviewed the same week as you, but on that Friday. Also, I live in California so it may take longer for me to receive any correspondence..

I am scheduled for an interview on Jan 22nd. How should I prepare for the interview? Any suggestions?? I am very excited. This program is my first choice. I can't wait to go but I am just a little nervous:O)..

Thank you, I had my interview on sat. I received the acceptance letter the following sat. I'm sure you will hear soon because letters were mailed on Dec 15. best of luck to you

I got my acceptance letter on Christmas eve. It was definitely the best Christmas present ever.... MCPHS is definitely one of my top choices. 🙂

Bryan told me that the admissions committee meets every Tuesday and then they send mail out on Wednesday. So if you interview on a Monday, then your wait is the shortest.

I got my acceptance letter today! I'm from Cali, so I guess it took over 2 weeks to get here, but yea it finally arrived! Woohoo! Now to decide if this is my school of choice..

I posted this on another thread and thought it might be valuable here, too.

"Oh goodness, dear, no worries.

I had a 3.8 GPA for my undergrad B.A. in Philosophy. PHILOSOPHY.

I then took a few years of science pre-reqs to be able to apply, and I did well, but don't remember my GPA. I know someone that got in with a 3.24 GPA and a B.A. in Biochem.

I have a wee bit of volunteer experience.

I have ZERO, ZILCH, NADA pharm experience, and guess what? The interviewer said they PREFER people with no experience because they don't have to weed out bad habits learned when a pharm tech.

Everyone is chill and awesome, so apply! Worst case, you're not accepted, you ask why, and you improve yourself! :luck::xf::luck:"

Hi guys, so I had a question regarding MCPHS.. I recieved a letter on nov 4th stating that I am put on the waitlist... but I haven't interviewed or anything so I am not quite sure how the waitlist works???

Please let me know if anyone knows anything...

thanks

Congrats on all those who got accepted.
I just moved to the area not too long ago and am thinking about moving in summer and will need a housemate. Send me a PM if you think you will need a housemate too. 🙂

I've just canceled my interview invitation so that you guys will have one more spot🙂. Good luck!

Hello all,

I am wondering does anyone get interview after submited the Fall's grades?

I sent mine three weeks ago and I have heard nothing yet. Little worry 🙁.

Hi everybody, this is very first comment I post on this forum ever ... Can you guys help me a little bit please.... I just received a mail form MCPHS Worcester about my application, they said they placed my application on hold, because they didn't receive my TOEFL score ... I just have 3 more classes to finish their require, I earned 89 credits and have 3.8 GPA... But my Toefl score is lower then their minimum score required 4 points.... What should I do now... Should I retake Toefl test again... That time I took it just 3 days before my 5 finals .. so I didn't prepare for it at all..... Do I have any chance with this school ???

I had to take the toefl test. I would say just retake it since you have a good background otherwise. Its just a formality so as long as you get the minimum score I say you're good!

Thank you very much Masafi... I just registered for the test again.... ^^

I have an interview on Feb 8. This is my first interview. How could I have the best prepare for the interview? Do I have write an essay?

Hey, you have to write an essay in 30 minutes. The prompts are pretty easy so don't worry about it. Definitely just ask yourself why you really want to be a pharmacist. The interview was laid back... only a faculty interviewer. It was definitely informal and conversational.

Good luck with your interview!

Dear all,
while filling my supplemental form for MCPHS worchestor; I was asked to describe why I want to attend the Pharmacy program (please provide specifics) at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. My question is, can i simply copy paste my pharmcass essay? did anyone do that? Can anyone help me with specific information pertaining to the pharmacy program? and why i would want to join?

Thank you all

the rule of thumb that i've found is that you NEVER copy and paste your PharmCAS essay for your supplemental essay. you can "recycle" ideas, but literally copying and pasting looks bad. it shows your lack of interest in the school.

YOU need to research the school and it's website to know why exactly you want to attend MCPHS. i would put the school's history as an example. you may want to look at the school's mission statement (http://www.mcphs.edu/about_mcphs/mission.html) and see if that coincides with your mission as a pharmacist.

good luck, i wish the best for you! :luck:

i want to apply to the college of pharmacy in worcester but i have to repeat a calculus and a microbilogy class.

does anyone ot there has any advice?

i really want to be admitted.

hey Kern07 ....Thanks a lot ..i'll use whatever you said. ... you are the first one to reply to my first ever post in this forum... :luck:

One more question; I recently graduated with a chemistry degree. Pharmcass determined my gpa to be 3.41 ..i am almost done with my supplemntal essay ...i am pretty sure i will submit the application with the next couple of days...what are my chances gettin in? keeping in mind that i am taking another 3 prerequisites this semester???

i really can't tell you the chances of gaining admission to the program, but from what i've heard is that MCPHS looks at the whole applicant meaning you can have a stellar GPA but have absolutely nothing under your belt regarding extracirricular and not be accepted. i believe that look at the applicant holistically, but a high good GPA is a plus.

personally, i would focus my time and effort on the supplemental. go to your university/college writing center to get it proofread. make sure it oozes with your desire to attend MCPHS and why the Worcester campus.

i was accepted with more than 5 outstanding prereqs, so don't worry about that part.

I was accepted with 3.44 gpa, but declined my seat today. I hope this helps and good luck!

I received a letter today saying I need to take the TOEFL test @@ I don't understand why I need to take it because I completed my bachelor in America. Is it because I am not native born that's why they require me to take it?

Hey there, I'm a current P1 and I was in the same situation when I applied. If you feel like your english is perfectly fine, you can actually write the school a letter stating why you should be exempted from the TOEFL requirement. Just mention how long you've lived in the States, english classes you've taken and that you graduated from an american university.

When I went for the interview, I brought the letter up again, and the interviewer said that they would like to interview you and judge you in person first before they grant you the waiver.

So yea, try that. Better than having to spend money to take the test.

Hey mxt029, good luck with your interview this week! I was extremely nervous, but it went great. It was pretty laid back and they just want to know a little more about you. My best suggestion for you is to have questions ready for them. I had two or three questions ready, and it was almost like they expected me to ask them questions. They will also take you on a tour of the campus so you can ask more questions then if you forget during the actual interview. Just try to be confident!! GOOD LUCK!!

I received my acceptance letter about a week and a half after my interview. They are pretty quick.

First of all, be honest. But, I would definitely not copy and paste from pharmcas. They don't want to read the same information over and over again, they have already read your pharmcas essay. It would be best to try to think of additional ideas for the supplemental essays. Think of what makes MCPHS unique from other schools. They want to know why you want to go to THEIR school, not just pharmacy school in general. Hope this helps. GOOD LUCK!!

Good luck with your interview in Feb! Just be yourself and be prepared to ask questions. I was extremely nervous, but the interviewer (professor) basically told me at the beginning of the interview not to be nervous because he was in the same position not long ago. So, don't worry too much about it. They just want to get to know you better, and talk to you in person. It was laid back and they will take you on a tour of the campus as well, which I really enjoyed. Good luck!!

Hey PharmStu2013, Congratulations for your acceptance. Hopefully, I can come back after two week and say the same. :O) Thanks for your suggestions. I really appreciate it. :O) This is s a silly question, but should I take something with me? A folder or something with my resume?

I did not take anything with me, they will have a file they can look at with your grades and your pharmcas file. But, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to take something, if you want. That's up to you.

Did you send the letter in first before you took the TOEFL? Thanks for your advice!

I believed that they said that you don't need the TOEFL if you attended high school or got a BS here. It's on their website.
Just send them a letter stating why you should be waived from taking the test. I just sent a letter, I didnt bother registering for the test.. TOEFL is just a waste of money unless you can't waive it.

really...that's great! I went to their website, i saw the TOEFL requirement is for those whose English is not their first language. I did not find any info pertaining to the TOEFL exemption. Can you send me the link? Thanks!

I don't think there's a link for that; I included my letter with the rest of my supplemental application materials. If you already sent yours, just send it separately (or maybe just email?) to the admission office.

My thought exactly!
