MCPHS (Worcester)--Fall 2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
prepobo, patience is a virtue! 🙂 my rule of thumb is this: wait a week after your first call. if you still haven't heard a response, call back.

personally, if i was on the adcom, i would be slightly annoyed at the fact that one person is calling continuously to find out the status of the application. i'm sure others are doing it too, but don't be the status quo.

i totally feel what you're going through right now, but they will respond back to you. you just have to give them some time. :luck:

I am applying at MCPHS and I am getting so nervous. I have:
3.6 GPA
3.45 Science GPA
Medical Assistant degree
MA intern at Tufts Medical Center
Work as an medical administrative at University health clinic

I'm an 23 year old Asian female. I'm a single mom of a 4 year old daughter.
What do you think of my chances?

🙂Hi everyone, i have an interview on Feb 8th.
How was the overall process? Is it relaxed and informal or more structured and formal? did everyone finish the writing test?

I'm going there by greyhound, and my hotel is very close to the bus stop, so i am planning to walk to my hotel. Is the downtown area safe?

thanks in advance

I only tried calling them once and that was 3 weeks ago. I was told, they're still waiting for pharmcass to mail in my application. What can they tell me when i call again? are they perhaps authorized to tell a caller if they're considering him for an interview? did that ever happen to anyone? Is there any advantage of calling?

I have been placed on waitlist too. it sucks..
i dont know when i will hear from them...did you receive any letters of why you are waitlisted for interview ??

There was no reason in letter I got. Guess we just have to wait..shouldnt be too long i think...'cause the app deadline is passed.

Hey guys my interview is coming up!

I was wondering what types of questions they ask in the interview and what the essay topic was.

The interview questions are not really that hard. Just look at the interview feedback section, they are pretty much the same. For the essay, they give you 5 topics and you write about one of them. The topics are not science related, they are pretty random. Hope that helps.

Just got my acceptance letter in the mail today, I'm so exited.😍

I got wait listed today. I suspect the reason is I still need to complete 4 prerequisites (two liberal arts and the last of organic chemistry). Hopefully they will consider me since I am planning to take these classes during next term as well as summer.

Scwong, I'm a P1 at MCP-Worcester and you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Your stats are great and you are going to get in. All thats left to do is wait patiently for the acceptance letter 🙂

I finally got the interview invite I have long waited for 😍😍😍. Thanks Kern07 for the advise not to call. lol. You know the anxiety in waiting. I am excited, I pray everything goes well with the interview so that I be part of the MCPHS-Worcester family. Any interview advise will be highly appreciated.

why are you so excited about this school? their tuition is the highest in the nation and their program is the most difficult in the nation, too.

I like their program because it is accelerated plus its close to home. I dont have to travel a long distance to school. I don't really mind the tuition so long as I get quality education and become a good Pharmacist and accomplish my goals as a Pharmacist. Also I know that the program will be difficult because everything is done in 34 months. I am prepared for it. Thanks though.

Um, I don't think they have the highest tuition in the nation. It's 37 K a year. So around 120 K a year. I know for a fact USC in Cali's tuition is 36 K per year and it's four years, so that's 160 K. Same with UOP, it's 50 K per year times 3 years is 150 K.

It's an accelerated program. It's not for everyone. Obviously, if you don't mind a challenge, then you'll be fine.

I put my pharmcas application in November received a letter about waitlist and that's it. nothing more what does this mean??

I had an interview on the 9th. have a 3.66, one last pre-req to complete and got put on the waitlist today.

So i got an interview invite on Thursday Yay! But I can't get a hold of the person I'm supposed to call to schedule an interview....I've called like 10 times today, and I finally left a message ugh 🙁. Is there another number I should call?

I think today is a national holiday (President's Day) so there's probably no one in the office. Try calling tomorrow. Good luck on your interview.

Oh I didn't think about that. Everyone's at work here....

What are your stats? My interview is coming up and it seems like I have the exact same things as you do so far.

For those that got accepted and sent in a deposit, did you get any conformation that they recieved your deposit? It's been a week since I sent mine in and I haven't recived any conformation or anything like that.

They send you a letter welcoming you to the school. Also they send you your immunization forms. Congrats! Maybe we'll be P1s together in the fall.

I had my interview on Feb 4th and it has almost been two weeks already with no response. I thought this school was suppose to respond fast. Pretty worried, anyone got anything recently?

If you don't mind me asking, what are your stats?
Pharmacy Experience?
GPA?
Extracurriculars?
Any classes you still have to complete?

They are supposed to .... I received my acceptance letter within one week .... and I live in CA .... I guess right now there are many applicants to review ... so it might take a little longer ... hang in there .... best of luck to you all ...

Pharmacy experience: 3 years at Rite Aid and close to a half a year at Target.
GPA 3.1
Extracurricular: Residential Advisor for COSMOS, Medical Mission in Vietnam, I was also affiliated with a social cultural club for four years (then moved my way up to be part of cabinet), and I did clinical research at the university medical center for two years with one published paper.
I still need to complete history, philosophy, and psychology. I was planning to take all three this summer. I think these incomplete classes I have not taken is the problem... I'm not sure. 🙁

Tomorrow will be exactly the 2nd week without hearing anything from them.

Just be patient. The Admission Committee meets every Tuesday to determine admission for the people who just interviewed. So if you had an interview on a Wednesday, you would have to wait the longest. Good luck!🙂

Did they say they are putting you on waitlist because you are missing something (TOEFL scores, Fall grades, etc.)? I was put on waitlist back in November because they want to see my fall grades. I received interview letter couple weeks ago, and will go to interview in March.
I would suggest you try calling them. It's getting pretty late. But better late than never.

Well I submitted my fall grades to Pharmcass for academic update but I did not actually send them anything directly

I to was put on the waiting list. Who do I call?

I was waitlisted in first week of feb. Has any one on the waitlist heard anything yet? Does anyone have any idea when they will start considering those on the waitlist?

Does anyone know what the essay topics were?

we are not allowed to share any essay topics ... however .... they are not that hard ... and you have many topics to choose from .... good luck 👍

They essays aren't hard at all.. The interview is very relaxed and easy going also. You guys should just be yourself and keep the conversation going..

For those who haven't gotten their decision letter.. you guys should email them or else call in because mines got lost in the mail and had to be resent.

For all those who got accepted.. I will see you guys there!!! =P

You will get in for sure!!!
However make sure that you tell them how you will handle their heavy loaded program while taking care of your daughter.

To who are nervous for the interview:
I was very nervous before my interview too, but I took the advices of sdn members and be myself. I did not really rehearse/recite before my interview but it seems everything come out smoothly as long as you treat it like a conversation. The interviewer and everyone there are very nice and they know you come a long way to their school, they are happy to see you. The essay is nothing to worry about, I got 5 topics to choose from. I am not a good writer, especially in paper (I prefer to type) but 30 mins for 1 page is not that bad.

To who are already got accepted:
We should have contact of each other and sometimes after May when everyone finally decides to go to MCPHS, we should share information of housing planning, getting textbooks, orientation....
I am all the way from California, and I leave with parent the entire undergraduate years. So moving to MA is a big change for me.

for those who were accepted, did you complete all your prereqs? i got waitlisted cause i still needed 4 prereqs, which i was planning to take all of them this summer. i don't know what went wrong, i thought the interview went well and im pretty qualified

What are your stats? My interview is coming up and it seems like I have the exact same things as you do so far.
I don't know what you mean by stats but I have a 3.66 and 1 pre req left and a damn good application. Honestly, I'm flaberghasted. Guess my interview didn't go well. I figured if you get the interview, your in, guess not for me.

What it seems like to me is that they will continue to interview applicants and accept applicants that are qualified with all pre-reqs complete etc.. Then after the admissions process slows down a bit, they will compile their list, see who accepted there invitation and who did not because not everyone who got accepted isn't necessarily going to attend. Thats when they'll hit up the waitlisters I think. The Good news is if your at the top of the waitlist.

For all of you all who are worried about pre-reqs: I'm a senior and haven't completed 3 of my pre-reqs. I had my interview on Jan 19th and got in two weeks after. So don't freak out, you guys will be fine. They dont make pre-reqs that big an issue. Good Luck!
