MCPHS (Worcester)--Fall 2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hey livingonhope;
I am also kind of new to this forum. I understand that being put on a wait list means you will be accepted if anyone declines their acceptance. I finished my supplemental application on the 15th; I still didn't hear from them. How long did it take them to reply to you after you have submitted your pharmcas and supplemntal applications?? " this question is for evrybody as well "
Keep your hopes up!

Um, I submitted my PharmCAS around the last week of August and my supplemental around then too. They sent me an invitation letter around the second week of October. They are pretty fast at reviewing applications. So hold on tight, you'll hear back from them soon.

So it takes about a month to know if you got an interview. I know my application went into review on january 13. Seriously hoping for an interview. A lot of people in this thread got in. I have a feeling theres only a few spots left.

hey, i submitted my pharmcas application in novermber, and submitted my supplementary in last week of december. i heard from them two days ago. i have been placed on waitlist for interview not for admission. and thats why i am more worried. i am hoping i will hear from them very soon..
good luck !!!

I think MCPHS-Worcester does things a little differently that most pharmacy schools. They don't invite you for interview unless they are seriously considering you for acceptance... I guess once you get an interview, you're chances of getting in are high. So good luck with everything! 🙂

They received my PharmCAS Nov. 2, and my suppl. application Nov. 16. I received a invitation for an interview the last week of Nov. and had my interview the second week of Dec. I received my acceptance letter right at Christmas. I was surprised how fast I heard from them. But, I wouldn't worry if you have been waitlisted, at least they didn't just say no! That means they still have an interest in you, they just might be filling up their spots. Good luck!!

Hmm, are you a transfer student from a JC? I didn't know they looked down on community college credits.

Hi Everyone,

I just called the admissions office to inquire about my admission status and they said i need to write TOEFL. I graduated form the University here and I don't know why they want me to write the TOEFL. I said this to the lady i spoke to but she said its up to the admissions office to decide even if I write a letter explaining to them why I shouldn't write it. If anyone has been in this situation please help me out.

Others have been in the same situation as you. Read through page 3. I believe you just need to send them a letter explaining that you got your BS here.

not in my case ... I got accepted as a transfer student from a community college ... I did most of my prerequisites at cc ...

Ok, I got my acceptance letter for Boston, but can I switch to Worcester because I want to attend the three year program.

I am in your situation. I just sent them an email. Just explain to them why you should be exempted from the TOEFL and they will consider it.

I sent them a letter explaining why I hould be exempted . Have you heard anything from them since you sent your email? Also does it mean they already looked at our application and are looking forward to invite us for interview? What do you think? I'm looking forward for this to be a sign of good news. Good luck. I hope we all get in. Thanks!

Hey guys!

Found out a week ago that I got an interview so I'm really excited!

Anyone have their interview on the 26th of Feb?

For those who have already had their interviews, any tips?

Thanks guys and good luck to everyone!

Just be yourself. They just want to get to know you. One faculty member interviews you in his/her office.. then he/she gives you a tour. Make sure to be ready for questions about time management and organization.. It's a hard Pharm.D program... you'll be in class pretty much all day... things like that. The essay is super easy. Good luck!

I just got my letter today... YAY!!!!! I got accepted. I am so happy :O) Good luck everybody! :O)

Hey guys.
i have an interview next week, but since im not fluent in english im a little nervous. If there is a student who's not a native speaker and still got accepted, any advice will be very helpful. thanks. 🙂

they won't look at your application until they have everything, that includes the letter. They will put it on hold until they receive your letter.

Hi,

I just got a interview invitation from MCPHS. According to letter I have to call and pick the date. But I am wondering that Do I have to choose date by my own? or Admission commitee going to give me some date when I call? I also want to know that which airport you guys pick, when you went for interview? Is there any hotel near college?

Congrats on your interview invitation. You call Kate and schedule an interview date with her, meaning you get to choose what day and what time. I came from California and flew into Logan (Boston) Airport. Hmm, I rented a car so I stayed in Northborough... 15 minutes from Worcester. I think there's a commuter train from Boston to Worcester... However, I don't know much about the public transportation.

Good luck!

the thing about worcestor is the accept everyone they interview so if you have an interview you're surely in.

esp for those on the west coast, if they ask you to fly all the way to MA that measn they are really looking to accept you.

just food for though. good luck with your apps.

Can anyone tell what time interviews start and end? Will the interview go beyond 1:00 PM?

I'm trying to look up possible flights and see that latest flight I can take is 5:00 PM from Boston. Is there anyway I leave from Worcester around 1:30PM and make my flight at 5:00 PM? I hear traffic is really bad in Boston.

Does anyone have Interview on 2/15/10, Monday (President's Day?). I'm guessing the campus is closed but, wanted to see if MCPHS was open.

My interview time was at 11:00 so I arrived at 10:00. However everyone else had the same idea and arrived really early so there wasn't enough room for everyone to write the essay. I spent a lot of time waiting in the waiting area and didn't leave the building until 1:30. however, there is a commuter rail train that leaves worcester at around two and arrives at south station at around 3:30 on weekdays (this way you dont have to worry about traffic). Then you can take the silver line, which is also in south station, to logan (which apparently runs once every 10-15 minutes at that time of day) and arrive at your terminal at around 4. Its a bit rushed as checkin needs to be half an hour before departure time but this might work for you if you are worried about traffic. www.mbta.com is the website for more information about this, the route is framingham.

I had a flight at 6:30 and made it to the terminal a little after 4.

The admissions lady told me there was a bus that ran straight from worcester to logan airport but as the interview was longer than expected, I was unable to take the bus but the commuter rail worked out fine albeit it was quite slow. I think the bus she was talking about was called logan express but I'm not 100% sure on that

Otherwise there is the greyhound which departs from worcester and arrives at south station in about an hour or you can always take the cab but it heard it was very expensive.

Hope this was helpful for you and anyone else who is getting ready for an interview

Thanks for the info. I will be flying in from Phoenix and don't know much about Boston. I'm researching online where to stay and how to get to Worcester. There are so many ways I can book this trip and can't make up my mind on if I should stay the extra night or fly back after the interview, or how to get to Worcester, rent a car or use the train, or where do I want to stay?

I'm leaning towards staying extra night and checking out the City. Can't figure out if I should rent a car. I know traffic is really bad and there are lot of toll roads (I hate toll roads, we don't have them here in Phoenix).

Hey guys,

does anybody know how much of the class at worcester is filled? i'm reading all these posts and it seems like everyone is getting accepted (of course its a good thing) but just wondering if anyone knows the class size and how much of it is filled?

thanks

I think they only invite applicants for interview if they are seriously considering them for acceptance. If they are not sure about an applicant, they place them on hold even before an interview. I think they have 180 spots for worcester and they just fill them as they go. It is a truly rolling admissions basis. Hope that helps.

Im 19, from detroit, completed 4 full semesters, 3 prereqs to go for MCPHS, and i got an interview on feb 2nd. im nowhere close to a bachelors, i duno how i got an interview, are my chances lower than everyone else even tho i have an interview? im flyin out tommorow morning

Just be confident at the interview and you'll be good. If they invited you, chances are you're in. Good luck!

Has anyone ever gotten scholarships or grants from this school (worcester campus) or has all of it been loans?

arrghh..waitlisted for interview. sucks. anyone else in the same situation. i guess i should go do some pharmacy volunteering, because as of now I have zero hours.

I have been placed on waitlist too. it sucks..
i dont know when i will hear from them...did you receive any letters of why you are waitlisted for interview ??

Dear everyone;
Congrats for those who got accepted.
Question: how does MCPHS notify students about interviews? E.mail? or throught the regular mail?
I e.subimitted my application along with the supplemental on the 15th of January. Pharmcas mailed it out on the 25th.....Can anyone tell me when to expect to hear from them? plzz fill me in.

I submitted my PharmCAS and Supplemental Application in November. It was on hold until they received my Fall grades. Submitted Fall 2009 Transcrips on 12/20/09 through PharmCAS. I just got a interview invitation letter last Friday, I called this morning to set up a date and I was able to scheduled on February 16.

Anyone else coming on this day?

hey you should get interview notification in the format of a letter. i think i received my interview invitation maybe 3 weeks after both my pharmcas and supplemental had been received. they are really quick about it which is nice.
good luck!

Congrats to all who got in!

I'm very nervous. . . . .MCPHS is my first choice. My gpa is on the lower side (3.1), my pcat was just average and I just finished my BA in Biology. I've worked at pharmacies (I work for a chain so I bounce arouund) for about 2yrs and got my letters from all 3 pharmacists in charge. I work close to 30 hrs a week so I hope my work ethic and experience shows. . . . .ugh let the waiting game begin!

I have an interview later this month. 🙂

they send your acceptance letter by mail. also, i asked the admission's counselor how many they will accept this year and they said around 225. 🙂 good luck!!

I am being placed on the waitlist. 🙁 I wonder how likely for a waitlist applicant will get accepted. How many people got off the waitlist last year?

I interviewed at Worcester on Jan 26 and was accepted one week later - I declined my acceptance.

Pluses: Amazing labs and new facilities. The on campus housing is in the same building as all your classes. Very well equipped with technology/internet access. Awesome proximity to Boston.

Minuses: Way too expensive, Worcester is a dump, school is very small, you have to wear your white coats everywhere!!!!, WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!!

Hi everyone,

I called admission office to inquire about my application on Monday and was told my application is in review. I want to call today and see if a decision has been made but I feel that it hasn't been long enough and by calling might upset the admission office. This is my top school and the waiting is very hard. Do you guys think its ok to call either today or tomorrow even though I was told on Monday my appl is in rewview?
