MCPHS (Worcester)--Fall 2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's hard waiting for their reply. I had my interview on the 7th. I wonder how long it will take.

How do you know you will get a rejection letter and not get waitlisted?

The letter I received at home says: we can not offer you and admission to the school of pharmacy, for the class of 2014........
I dont know why they didn't put me on a waitlist, since It wasn't my first or second choice, I am not much worried about it.

Did you heard anything back from them? or not yet.

Congrats swaller!!! MCPHS is my first choice even though I attended URI as an undergrad. Live there all my life and I'm excited to be on my own for a while! URI/MCPHS my homes!

Don't worry, their deadline was Feb. 1 so I'm thinking they're still reviewing. Good news is you already interviewed 👍
Good luck!!!

I had my interview on the 1st and got my acceptance letter on the 18th. Its strange that they said they couldn't admit you for the class of 2014 because people entering fall this year are considered c/o 2013. Did you apply for Boston campus or did you apply for the wrong term?

Thanks very much! I am looking forward to starting school in the fall and meeting everyone! Are you gonna live in RI or worcester?

Where are you guys planning to live? I don't really like the dorms at MCPHS.

I was looking at some places online but they are all kind of expensive for a small unit! So the best thing to do would be to find a roommate. I am willing to go as far as RI to find a place!

I was wondering what we do about books? Is there a bookstore (didn't see one online)?

I'm applying for dorm, the 6 bedrooms unit one. It is more convenient for me to live in dorm at least for the first year, even it doesn't really save much.

I think you shouldn't live that far. You may save ~100-150/month, but some of it will go to the gas and you may lose a lot of time to study and hang out with friends.

Btw, has anyone get their financial aid award letter?
The total cost to attend is $59,031 (calculated by financial aid office. I got around $8,000 in Direct subsidized and $27,000 unsubsidized direct loans. I have no income, no saving, and I will need at least $20,000 more. If anyone has the same situation, i think it would be a great idea for us to start doing research and share info about loans.

1 more thing, does anyone know that whether the tuition includes health care insurance?

In the brochure that was mailed with the award letter, it says that we are required to have health insurance. Therefore, it is included in the tuition.

OR

We can fill out a waiver if we have our own (or parents/spouse) healthcare coverage and that would be 1,395 less we'd have to pay to them.

Thanks swaller, I have read the brochure too, but I wasn't sure if it is applied to all the campuses of MCPHS. it mentions that MCPHS students have full access to Harvard student medical center, so i thought it may just regard to student from the main campus MCPHS - Boston.

Hey, I just received more student housing info via e-mail. MCPHS had contracted with the Crown Plaza $625 furnish studio-like apt all utilities included, fitness center and pool. FYI: kitchen is shared on each floor.

Wow! 625 per month? Seems like a good deal. Is the place close to the school? What about parking? Indoor or outdoor? I'm not sure why I didn't receive the email for this place.

I'm also in a dilemma because I need to decide between schools soon and I'm stuck between Midwestern Glendale, MCPHS and LLU.

Has anyone heard any news about the Lincoln Square? I emailed Rachel and she said she would call me back about the next step in the process but I never did hear from her.

I have also looked at places like the Princeton Place, Sky Mark Tower and Planation Ridge. Any comments about these places?

I also got the acceptance letter today. Congrats to everyone who got accepted, and good luck to those on waitlist.
My stats:
3.78 cummulative GPA, 3.51 science and math
1 year volunteering at hospital
3 months volunteering at community pharmacy
BS in Business Administration

Congrats!!! Good luck to everyone who is waiting :luck::luck::luck::luck::luck:

I got my award letter already. Apply for grad plus loan asap. It will give you extra 20,000. Btw, don't forget to do your entrance counseling and mpn... Btw, the deadline is July 13th I think. I freaked out too...But, all is well.. Everything will meet the cost of attendance =)

Thanks deviant01, I did the counseling, MPN, and applied for the direct Plus loan for graduate student yesterday.

Is anyone here going to live at the Lincoln living center? I just found out that if we live there we have to pay for the meal plan as well. It is a requirement, not an option. I don't really like this attachment but I still go for it at least for the first year.

When you live on the Lincoln Square Living and Learning Center, you are automatically enrolled into the meal plan. It is required part meal plan as part of the package for living on the facility. The plus side to this is if you don't use your credits it rolls over to the next semester for 3 semester only.

Now thinking again and doing some calculation. $1200/semester (3 months), so $400/month is not a bad deal, plus we could save a lot of time for studying instead of cooking. 👍

Have you put down your deposit yet?

yes i did, i feel like everything falling in the right place. I don't have to worry about where i'll live, where i'll buy grocery, ... I just got approved for direct Plus loan too.

I've been waiting for Loma Linda, but now i think that going to MCPHS will be better for me since I will save 60k of tuition, loans interests over an extra year, and a year of salary.

Are you going to stay in the new dorms too? Have you got your bill from MCPHS?

yes, I'm staying at the Lincoln square. No I haven't get any bill from them yet. I hope it won't come until September when I get loan money.😀

the meal plan is no longer a requirement .... I just read the email from Rachel

Hi
I am planning to go to this school for pharmacy next year as a transfer student. My main concern is the fess.
If I consider attending this school, I will have atleast 160-170 debt. I have been talking to different people about going to pharmacy school because of the tight job market for pharmacists right now. I am coming up with different suggestions from everyone, kinda confused. Even after all that, I really want to do pharmacy. I am doing nursing right now, but did not like it. I am confused about going to pharmacy school with so much debt.
Can someone tell me how much loan are they taking for going to pharmacy school especially this pharmacy school (Accelerated Program).
Is it worth taking 160-170k for pharm school?
I will really appreciate your suggestions.

I was wondering if anyone was planning to live in Westborrough - it is a very nice neighborhood right outside of Worcester (about 20-25 min. drive).

The total cost to attend is $59,031 (calculated by financial aid office.

Does anyone know how this is even possible? $39,600 tuition + $780 comprehensive service fee ($260 per semester x 3) + $6900 for room ($2300 per clinical semester x 3 [cheapest]) = $47200. These values are taken directly from their website. I even called the campus to see if there are any additional fees, and they said that the only others are board (does anyone know if the dorms have stoves? that'll cut down the cost of food), textbooks, and parking (like $150 per semester). There is no way all three things of these things costs $12000 extra. Anyone know how this was calculated?

Good luck to all of you new MCPHS students!

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about the waitlist? Currently im still on the waitlist but as the days go buy my chances of being accepted are becoming slim to none. Anybody have any insight or advice that would be greatly appreciated.

In the New England area it is tight for pharmacist position but you should be ok. Also, I would recommend going to a cheaper school and take the 4 year route. But it's all up to you. MCPHS is ok.
Most of the schools that I have looked at are a little less in tuition than the MCPHS tuition fees so with 4 years its gonna be the same. Still confused.
Thanks for replying though.

this is the worst school ever..they think they are the harvard school of pharmacy... I am realy disappointed with this school..its realy bad school

I'm "realy" convinced. Anyone else "realy" convinced?

Anyone have any information about the waitlist? I cant seem to find anything and the school wont let me know about my status other than im still on the waitlist.

Approximately how long was everybody's supplemental essay on "Please describe why you want to attend the Pharmacy program at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Please also include any impressions that you may have of MCPHS and the Worcester area."? (especially people who got accepted or atleast got an interview)

I feel like this question is very to the point (unlike the PharmCAS essay). I am currently writing it now, but I feel as if it won't be long enough when I am done. Just wanted a gauge on how long it should be.

I talked with admissions, and they said there was hardly any movement in the waitlist this summer as opposed to other years.
