I have supreme faith in Prowler's ability to "investigate" the identity of Kiwi. I am even more confident that this will, in fact, scare the bejeebus out of the poor lass.

 Congrats on your decision, Chulito! Seattle is such an awesome city. Are you from there, or another part of the state? Have you ever been to the Zig Zag Cafe? It's considered among the cocktail-geek crowd (of which I consider myself a member) to be one of the best bars in the nation. When we visit my cousin-in-law out there sometime soon it will be one of the major destinations on our trip.

I've been in Seattle since 1992. I grew up in Tacoma (from the time that I was 1 year old), which is just 30 miles south of Seattle, so moving here didn't really feel like moving to a new city as much as moving to a cooler neighborhood in the same city.

I don't know the Zig Zag Cafe, but I'm going out with some friends tomorrow night and I'm supposed to come up with the plan, so I'll suggest it. It's not one of those $15-per-drink places, is it? I'm poor folk.

Spam is not tasty. Or kosher.

You should definitely go! It looks like most of the house specialty cocktails run about $8 (from what I've heard, it will be well worth it)...I'm sure it's less for rail drinks and beers. Hopefully Murray Stenson will be tending bar...he's known as one of the top 10 bartenders/mixologists in the US, and one of the friendliest guys you will ever meet. He could teach you a lot about what you're drinking if you strike up a conversation.

Make sure you order an Aviation or a Pegu cocktail. Even if you don't like gin, they are supposedly not to be missed (and you can't taste the gin in them like you can with a Gin & Tonic or martini that turn most people off of gin). I just had an Aviation that I made here at home, and it was excellent. (What? It's almost 5 o'clock!😛 )

I expect a full report of your experience afterwards. Seattle is a great town to live in during the recent cocktail revolution many parts of the country are going through...there are lots of other bars that are known for their attention to quality, but the Zig Zag is a good place to start.

Be nice to me! Don't scare them all away. Besides, spam is delicious! No one will break this habit, ever! If you've never tried spam, you're missing out!

She could counter-him by searching out his curly locks and tight buns.

Spam is in fact delicious. Especially as part of a musubi.

I'm a regular NASCAR watcher, and I don't think I've ever seen it as a sponsor. I could be wrong though.

Does Austin, MN still do they're annual Spam Jam? Never went, but almost did once.

Hey Kiwi! Long time no post. I heard that you were moving in with someone else, but I guess that's not happening huh. I don't blame you. It's so much easier to get someone else to move in with you instead hauling your stuff across town.

I was going to move in with someone else but I'm horribly allergic to cats! =(
I heart spam! I would definitely go to a spam festival. I almost want to do a spam fundraiser...I'm sorry I said that 😀

Yeah, that wouldn't have gone well. Her cat has a lot of long, fluffy white fur. :scared:

spam is amazing. in 7th or 8th grade we had to make halloween masks, and I made a giant mask/helmet/thing that was designed to look like a giant can of spam.

A spam fundraiser? Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, baked beans, Spam, Spam, and Spam?

Ok, you finally need to watch the Spam sketch from Monty Python's Flying circus.

I'm pretty sure I've said this, but the best McD's food is Spam, Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice for breakfast. Every McDonald's in Hawaii sells it. mmmm mmmmmmm

the Brewer's need a Portuguese sausage to run for them now too.

Are you sure it's not more of a Portugese thing?

Didn't you know that Hawaii is so culturally diverse that they can co-opt the best things about every culture around the world and take credit for it? They're like the Borg with suntans.

Hey, guys. How y'all doing? I've missed you, but figured that I should leave this thread to people who are going to go to MCW instead of posers like me. However, since I know that you've all been on pins and needles waiting to find out where I will be in the fall 🙂rolleyes: ), I'm writing one last time to give you the final update. The decision is in, and I'll be at UW in Seattle (my state school, remember). Good luck to all of you soon-to-be MCW peeps, and much love to you long-timers who made me feel so welcome there.

Good luck to you, and congratulations! Too dark for me up there, but you go!

Are you sure it's not more of a Portugese thing?

Well... i googled it after. And found out it was actually a real portuguese thing. Weird thing was though, that confused me before googling it, when my family was in Portugal, we couldn't find the food that's "Portuguese."

+10 points for Borg reference.

i had an alarm clock failure this morning...I was going to go to pharm, but I ended up sleeping until about 10:20am. oops. stupid alarm clock. I THOUGHT that hitting the snooze button would, you know, make it go off again in 10 minutes. apparently not.

😕

Seattle isn't in Alaska. We're a couple hundred miles south of the Canadian border, like Milwaukee.

Fifty-four forty or fight!

or at least the 49th parallel

Me: 47,57
Y'all: 43,09

All right, you're a little further south. But we do have normal days here, like from 6:30 or 7:00 to 5:00 during the dead of winter (when, I might add, it's 35-45 degrees out at noon).

But the rainclouds never let the sunlight through.

you also have that big lake to moderate your temperatures

Well, to be honest, it's a little too dark for me here, too!

I have a friend in Spokane who just got his first SAD light, and he's soo much happier.

We've got a big lake here, and it sure doesn't seem to moderate our temperatures. It's frigid. My feet were numb to my ankles last night.
Try moving farther inland. You'll see - it definitely moderates temperatures, especially in the summer. The difference between Whitefish Bay and Brookfield can easily be 15 degrees, plus the nice breeze off the lake and better shade trees than the newly sprouted McMansion neighborhoods farther west.

P.S. - Chulito's lake is a lot bigger than ours. 😀

Hey does MCW give out of scholarships and or financial aid?

It's not the lake. It has to do with being between the ocean and the mountains. Vancouver (BC), Seattle, Tacoma (the redheaded step cousin of Seattle) and Portland (OR) all have the same weather, even though the lake is only next to Seattle. As soon as you go east of the mountains, however, you have the four seasons of the midwest.

OK, I'll stop. I can't imagine that the geography and meteorology of the northwest is really very interesting to anyone reading this.

On a boozier note, I went to the Zig Zag last night, Gimlet, and we had fun. Thanks for the recommendation. I had forgotten to write down the drinks that I was supposed to try, so I chose a Strega Daquiri all on my own, then switched to IPA and Guinness. The drink was really good and we had a great time, but I would never have guessed that the place is one of the ten best in the country if you hadn't told me so beforehand. It just seemed like every other cocktail bar in town. I think one would have to try a number of drinks over a period of time to get a good feel for why it's a special place. That, and buy into the hype, maybe. I'll definitely go back and try the Aviation and the Pegu at some point, and I'll let you know what I think.

You still can't admit defeat on the butt-cheek question, so you're giving me this one, is that it?

Pssst, "lake" = ocean. I was making a funny.

Oops! Ugh, how humiliating. 😳 And Lake Washington isn't anything like the size of Lake Michigan, so that should have been obvious. I'm going to fail med school. I'll never show my face in Milwaukee again.

Man, I am having the hardest time trying to stay awake. I got here at 7:30 this morning, and I've made it through only a tiny amount of CTB. zzzzzzzzzz

We've been over in the 2009 thread. 😉

I was just lamenting that fact that there used to be (hyper)active four MCW threads around here.

Too bad it's finals/boards season. I really need stuff to do this month. 😴

C'mon, don, the fastest way to kill a thread is to have you post in it! if you want to keep them alive, don't post! 😛

Hey now, I thought I'd passed that title on to Splat.

I'm pretty much petrified at the thought of a cumulative neuro final. And I should have taken the bus 40 minutes ago, because I haven't gotten anything done, even though I said I would.

I think I'm going to study pretty hard core for the entire month before finals. I don't think that will be enough but that is all I have in me.

that's more than I ever did last year. but then again, you probably want a higher grade than I got, too.

Is anyone on the curriculum committee here? I want to recommend that they drop half of the CER course in favor of a new course entitled: "The Physician/Patient Relationship: How Not to Get Your Ass Sued."

Lecture #1: Why you shouldn't use the world "ass" while talking to patients.

😛

It still pisses me off that I can't buy a can of Mountain Dew at school any more. Now I have to pay the extra $0.55 every time I want a soda, and I get a 20 oz bottle too, increasing my daily intake. I really wish we had some fridges in the student lounge so I could keep a few Dews in there (which only cost about $0.20 apiece from the store).

The profit margin on this stuff must be pretty nice - maybe I'll keep a few vending machines in my practice.

i hope you were getting some soda at Walgreens today too, because I can't say I've ever seen a grown man that would be comfortable buying everything else were carrying in there this afternoon.

Um, I haven't left the school since I got here at 10am, and I think the last time I was in Wal-greens was in Las Vegas. My wife does all the shopping and errands for our household, since no tengo el coche.
