MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
And how the hell do you study for an ethics exam?

Sample question:
"Which of the following is an appropriate statement for a physician to make to a parent whose child has died in an accident?"

1) "Just don't make them like they used to, huh?"
2) "You can always have more kids!"
3) "You can always have more kids, but if they'd turn out as stupid as this one I wouldn't bother."
4) "Oops, yeah, that was my bad."
5) "I'm afraid I have some very bad news...and this resident here will give it to you while I step out for coffee and cigarettes."

1 -- after he first sets off his own pager, says the statement then quickly dashes out of the room.

Solution 3: This is also when the male physician turns to the mother and gives a suggestive wink, followed by "Care for an upgrade?"

That'd better be a good looking physician then. Cuz if he's not, it's just unethical.

So, are you advocating discrimination in this case? Because I think that is definitely unethical.

Discrimination based solely on the level of hotness (maybe income level too)-- the type of physician wouldn't hurt either. Why else would I come to med school? I definitely didn't come here intending to do all this studying.

I figured you came for the free food and tote bags. Me, I've got a textbook fetish. Can't get enough of em!

"Yes, we know he's adopted"

Those are really funny! Those had to have been made by 4th years.

That reminds of me of a letterman top 10 i saw on a cross country flight:

Top Ten Signs Your Doctor Is Drunk

10. Sterilizes his instruments with Cuervo
9. Before him is a tray of gauze, swabs, and green olives
8. Giggles every time he asks for suction
7. Climbs in the MRI machine with you
6. As you go under, you hear the words "amputate" and "head"
5. Left a pack of Camels in your chest cavity
4. While listening to the heart monitor says, "Shhh. I love this song"
3. Checks your reflexes by hurling a beer nut at your face
2. Brags that he was Slobodan Milosevic's guy
1. After checking you for a hernia, says, "Now you do me"

I like the Walk Behind the Lecturer Guy. That would take nads of steel.

Especially with Kolesari. If you were walking behind him while he was lecturing and your cell phone rang he would go ape-**** and the people in the front row would need one of those plastic sheets that they use at Ghallager shows to keep the blood off of them.

On that note, why the hell did the administrative people insist on calling people down in front of 205 strangers during registration week? My advice to the class of 2011 is to never, ever, ever raise your hand if the lecturer asks, "are there any [x or y] here?"

Also, I did some research. There are 150 questions on the 2002 and 2001 biochem finals so I suspect we'll have 150 questions. That works out to just about 50 % of our grade, like prowler said. Sweet jeebus. Carry on.

You all got any tatoos?

I did about 10% worse on the final than I did on all the other exams, and I think it brought my overall down about 5%, for what it's worth. If you're in a "solid zone" you should be okay to maintain what you have if you survive the final. Granted, had I done 10% BETTER on the exam I would have moved up in the grade scale...but oddly enough I didn't really care.

Oh yeah, you have "Property of Ashleigh" written on a place doctors call the prison plateau.

You're waiting to share that one for the human sexuality course, aren't you. Save it for the practice session before the actual video taping.

Someone in your group, I'm sure, has LOTS of insight into some of the topics judging by the way she dresses for class.

oooooh, its on.

Oh, goodness NO.

I'm in Funk's group, and that's promising to be entertaining.

You two should come up with some kind of really uncomfortable story about a "hypothetical" couple and discuss the details. It could be a sexual version of Whose Line is it Anyway.

Have you ever watched the English "Whose Line?" Those practically are like that. The American versions they show on BBC America are too compared to the ones in general that shown on ABC Family.

Anybody else get the letter about the dog lab today? Kinda wondering how our addresses found their way to that guy.

The things they choose to censor or edit out are odd here in America. For example, CSI and those types of shows always show the nastiest stuff and violence certainly isn't edited off of TV. But, if you talk about sex or show >30% of any given butt cheek and you're fined by the FCC.

Did you see the dog lab expose on the news last night? I wasn't around last year at this time but it seems like there was a protest or something.

Yep. Thinking someone sent either the student directory or went to the registrar and requested all the students' addresses. I'm very annoyed they got my address.

can the registrar actually do that? i thought they wouldn't.

as for giving out the directory, that sucks too, since the front page says it's for MCW use only and other orgs can't use it, blah blah blah.

It would most likely involve an MCW student lying -- because you have to be associated with MCW. I've gotten address labels -- haven't used them yet for the AMSA brown bag lunch -- hoping I don't have to use them, I don't want to put the lunch on. You have to say why you want the labels, for which specific group of people you want the labels, sign forms, etc.

The labels looked like the MCW provided ones, but I guess anyone could make the same sort of labels.

Yeah, I was wondering how they got our addresses too. I was pissed when I opened that up yesterday, and I plan on sending an email. And from the sound of it today, I'm not the only one.

I guess there was something on Channel 12 last night too. Didn't see it.

BTW, the biochem final was by far and away my best test in the class. Beat my 2nd highest exam in biochem by like 8%. So there is hope on the final. However, my goal was to stick it to Sabina by acing it, so I unfortunately fell short. And I only got an on the upper border pass in the class. (2 good exams, 2 not so good)

Edit: Okay, so you know my computer is slow when all of you can post so many times while I trying to post just once.

Are you gonna email the person who sent the letter? I want to complain to someone at school. I thought the dog lab stuff was done.

Only M2s received the letter?

I figured out that I can miss as many as 16 on the final and still move up a grade. I have to get higher than 60% to keep my grade.

Did the letter come with a postage-paid return envelope? If it did keep in mind that the organization has to pay postage on the weight of whatever you may stuff into that envelope.

I'm gonna email the person listed at the top of the letter. There's an email in the header.

What does "I thought the dog lab stuff was done" mean? The protesting stuff?

No return envelope.

I'm thinking something along the lines of "You didn't save any dogs with this letter, but you did kill a tree."

Or not.

Just so everyone doesn't get the wrong impression, this doesn't mean I'm a slut or a prostitute or anything. Just wanted to put that out there.

heh-heh. You said, "put ... out".

Alright, fine, you got me. I'm a slut. But I would never, ever, charge anyone for romance. That's just plain illegal.

I'm on the far north edge of pass right now, and I'd like to high pass the class. 😳

You and me both. It'll take hours for just a few minutes of video!
what're you guys filming?

and what did the letter about the dog lab say?

How to take a sexual history. Apparently we have to role play different patients. One of my friends told me she had to pretend to be a very curious 17 year old wanting to know about sex and asking the person taking the history about it. Then people have to be gay and stuff.
