Jules: This was Divine Intervention! You know what "divine intervention" is?
Vincent: Yeah, I think so. That means God came down from Heaven and stopped the bullets.
Jules: Yeah, man, that's what it means. That's exactly what it means! God came down from Heaven and stopped the bullets.
Vincent: I think we should be going now.
Jules: Don't do that! Don't you ****ing do that! Don't blow this **** off! What just happened was a ****ing miracle!
Vincent: Chill the **** out, Jules, this **** happens.
Jules: Wrong! Wrong, this **** doesn't just happen.
Vincent: Do you wanna continue this theological discussion in the car, or at the jailhouse with the cops?
Jules: We should be ****in' dead now, my friend! We just witnessed a miracle, and I want you to ****ing acknowledge it!
Vincent: Okay man, it was a miracle, can we leave now?

bring out the Gimp.

So, whats the word on the Laptop/wallet gate scandal over on Nerd Room Hill?

Right about now I wish I was the laptop thief. My screen is flickering so much I'm actually nauseous and getting a headache + eye strain. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and get a new computer.

Any tips on laptops? I'm thinking HP 6000 series (customized). Any other (affordable) suggestions? Other than Dell and Mac, cause those are pretty much a no.

DoctorFunk, I appreciate the WinXP while it lasted. 🙂

Krex.com has some lease returns in the $400-500 range, but you'd want to add RAM.

cool site, but i think i want a ready to use, no fiddling computer.

that is a nice site though, definitely something to keep in mind.

I was told today that their prime suspect turned out to be clean. Apparently it was a case of mistaken laptop identity or something. So as far as I know, no one's getting the boot. Once again, this is all secondhand info...

shouldn't be too hard to figure out who was in the building between 4 and 6 am. Doesn't the electronic lock record everyone who comes in?

Who ever said anything about between 4 and 6 am? **eyes indo suspiciously...**

Yes, and it's actually sort of creepy. I've seen the computer in the public safety office at work...when someone swipes there card a little "profile" pops up with their name, photo, and whatever other information they have on you.

prowler did. You will never find me at school (clothed) at that hour.

Seeing how half the class ran out and bought matching white Macbooks just for the free iPod at the beginning of the semester, I can see how they'd mistake them.

Don't get suckered into buying something powerful. Unless you're a heavy-duty gamer, a low-powered laptop is more than enough for you. My laptop is 1.13Ghz with a 30gb hard drive and 384 mb of ram. Meanwhile, all those expensive Macs are running dual core processors that aren't necessary unless you're doing massive number crunching. Or go all out, if the Bank of Los Padres is paying. 😛

I think mom and dad are paying for the electronics in most cases.

I can't blame you. Newegg.com also has some deals from time to time, and since they're less Linux-heavy, more of the deals are likely to be ready to roll.

and rent, tuition, and beer/weed money. I've been kinda surprised at how many people are getting serious aid from the 'rents.

I'd just like a little help from my parents to go snowboarding in CO over Thanksgiving -- considering I've done nothing outside of school except study in random restaurants/coffee shops.

where do you snowboard around here? I haven't even seen a hill.

uh, no.

Though I have been able to get my mom to pay my car insurance, and my dad to pay for my car payment. Stupid financial aid.

I'll be around $225,000 in debt when all said and done. Eh, so what's a new computer on a credit card, right?

drive a bit, and you'll find a hill. definitely a hill. that's why the ski trip is in the UP. A bit more hilly and way more snow.

Ashleigh, you going on the ski/snowboard trip again? I'm thinking I should turn in my check this week so I don't forget.

Ya know, as long as I'm spending money, I do need a new snowboard...🙄

Not this year. I'm leaning towards spending the $400 or whatever and drive to Denver with my friend. That's $400 or however much it's gonna be for gas/hotel/lift tickets/food I can't afford since I live by myself. And if I'm dumb and get hurt again, I'll be semi-OK, since my friend's going into ortho (except he was with me when I hurt my thumb... maybe he's bad luck).

What enzymes are elevated in the blood after heavy exercise?

Once, a doctor asked me if I had run a marathon or something before going to his office. He took the blood then a couple days later asked me what I had done before going to his office. He said there was an elevated enzyme in my blood. That was a long time ago and I haven't died yet.

creatinine kinase probably mostly... skeletal muscle destruction. As long as it wasn't an elevated CK index or cardiac troponin I, you're probably good for not having had an MI.

I'm jealous that you get to travel so much. Remember, the MCW ski trip is only $95 plus lift tix.

Way to apply class to real life. 👍

And filled with drinking and no sleep. I was slightly bitter about all the alcohol there, since I don't really drink -- I had like 1 or 2 drinks the whole weekend. It could've been cheaper without all of that. Who knows if I'm actually going still yet, I still need to talk to the guy. I'm also kinda begging my mom reminding her that I'm the good kid at the moment (since my dad's being like "you have no money, you can't go.")

I probably drank your share of alcohol in addition to my own. Not gonna do that again this year. :barf:

thanks. The doctor didn't look at me like he was worried that he was going to have to hit me with "the paddles" or anything. He just seemed curious.

Btw, ashers, do you remember what percent of the final grade the biochem final is worth? I think you said you calculated the minimum score you needed on the final. I want to do that too.

No, sorry, I don't. I think at one point they said how many questions were going to be on the test. I may have my answer sheet at home, but I'm not there now, and my syllabus is with my notes that I'm letting one of your classmates borrow. I figured that out like right before I started studying a lot -- a few days before finals started.

Your kidneys could also be failing to cause an elevated creatinine. I really miss physiology. I don't like path right now. =( And I'm tired.

Well, I haven't peed blood or anything coagulated in a while...

Thanks! I'll figure it out.

Another needless tidbit about my medical history:

I was always ridiculed by my mother for saying that I had a tumor in my head every time I had a headache. Well, it turns out that my headaches were sinus pressure related and when I finally had health insurace I went to an ENT physician and discovered that I had a deviated septum and some over inflated turbinates. I also found out that the ENT removed a tumor fromt he back of my nasal cavity. I knew it! A tumor!!! I'm always right.

...never broken a bone though. knock.

somebody give me a reason to go to the gym

Physical inactivity predisposes you to a whole bunch of crap (especially stuff that clogs your arteries)... obesity --> metabolic syndrome, T2DM, HTN, CAD, MI. blah blah blah

I've only broken an insignificant bone that we weren't even supposed to locate during lab -- a sesamoid in my foot.

Way to apply class to real life. 👍
I did a little bit of that today, although I'm not sure I'm right. 😛 My dad's on hormone suppression, and one of his friends said something about depressed testosterone leading to lowered epinephrine, serotonin, and others. I pointed out that epi and serotonin aren't steroid hormones - they're derived from amino acids.

Woo!

Did you give a quick overview of the Folate/serine business?

They're not direct derivatives, but there is an association between reduced testosterone and depression. My dad had the therapy, too.

I've heard that those are painful when injured. How long did it take to fully heal and become painless again?

I had surgery 3 years after I broke it since I didn't know I broke it initially (for about 5-6 months), the stress fracture became a total non-union, and the sesamoid was in 3 pieces. So all the non-surgical therapies I tried didn't work.

Post-op pain went away completely after about 2 years.

Can't find my biochem answer sheet from the final.

Are you a runner?

and thanks for looking for the biochem info!

So, I've got the cardiovascular stuff down pretty well. Now do I spend the rest of the night trying to memorize the crazy bacteria and virii covered in those ridiculous infectious diseases lectures that we never even talked about in micro, or should I focus more on the high yield information found in The Office (season 2)?

I'm leaning towards the latter. That's the difference between 1st and 2nd year.
