The Yeshiva school on the East Side has a pretty good reputation, and lots of board-in kids. I believe there's a Lebovitcher school up in Mequon.

The most Jewish neighborhoods are Whitefish Bay and up in Mequon, both reasonable hikes from the campus.

There's also a Jewish grocery store (where I buy all my Pesadic food, as I have a strong predeliction for Streit's matzoh) on 47th and Burleigh.

Thanks Xandie, My husband actually went to that school for high school. My kids are much younger (oldest will be in 1st grade) so we are looking at YES (yeshiva elementary school) and The Academy. We would probably buy a house near that Burleigh and 47th area since that is where most of my children's future classmates live and I want them to be close to their friends. Are you also M-0?

Yeah, I can think of a grand total of one high school (Rufus King) that is actually a GOOD school. Bay View and Bradley Tech can't go a day without having to call in MPD at least once.

Your cell phone won't work in most parts of MCW. Case closed. The building must've been designed to be a Faraday cage.

That being said, yes, MCW is a black hole for cell phones in general. But I switched from US Cellular to Verizon between M2 and M3 and I have a much better overall cellular telefonic experience in both southeastern and northeastern Wisconsin.

My apartment was a no-signal zone for Cingular/AT&T, so I switched to T-Mobile and I'm happier now. I get signal in some parts of the building at MCW, though not very many. But at least I didn't have to stand outside like I did before.

I think the Verizon people get the best signal around here, but T-Mobile is definitely livable.

I'm on Verizon and am pretty happy with the signal around (and in) school. I still wish I was on T-Mobile though, if for no other reason than Catherine Zeta-Jones is a very convincing spokeswoman.

Nope. Mine is $775 and is huge, with 2 bedrooms and a study and hardwood floors (but no covered parking and we have to shovel). If you don't need a huge place or big luxury, your dream is very doable.

Easily. I checked out a place on 90th and Bluemound - 2BR, 1 bath, heat included for $625 a month. The landlord turned out to be crazy, so I picked a bigger 2BR, 1 bath, heat not included for $675 a month. Unless you move into the relatively newly built apartment buildings (like the Reserve or Serafino), you'd almost have trouble finding anything over $850 on this end of town.

Plenty of people live downtown/East side, so if that's where you want to be, I say go for it. Sure you have to drive to school, but the traffic is nothing compared to other cities. And the construction on the Marquette interchange starts wrapping up at the end of 2008/2009.

I bet construction ends the day we graduate, as long as I match somewhere that's not here. If I match here, they'll manage to stretch it out for another year or 2.

I've heard about the BRS series and the High-Yield series. Would you recommend these or are others out there that are better?

I recommend holding on for now, and when you get here check out what the bookstore has to offer so you can see which ones work best for you, then buy them from whatever source you prefer. There are vast differences between various brands.

Yeah, the 1-br cost almost as much as the 2-br. Right now I live in a 1-br on 68th for $625 with heat included. I have a dog too, and it was an extra $250 security deposit for her.

None, unless you want to use BRS phys while taking phys, and BRS path or Goljan M2 year.

I go to Pick 'n Save (which, incidentally, is what my toddler does with boogers). There is also Jewel, Sentry, and...sigh...Piggly Wiggly.

We have both on the east side of town. There's also a local health food co-op called Outpost with a branch on State Street, pretty close to the school. Pic-n-Save and Sentry are also on State Street (there's another Pic-n-Save on Bluemound Road, but for some reason it's awful), and a Sendick's (a little more hoity-toity local chain) on North Avenue, further north of campus. There are Aldi stores (those little cheap stores where you bring your own bags) on S. 60th and S. 35th.

One more question (sorry about all the questions!).. what sort of internet providers are in the area? and are most places capable of getting high speed internet?... my fiance is computer science and internet is extremely important to him hehehe 😀

Providers include Time Warner Cable and AT&T DSL. Other providers (like AOL and Milwaukee PC) work through those two providers, I think. Most of the metro area gets one or the other, usually both. I think either one runs around $20/month.
