I was extremely lucky to get accepted to an MD/PhD program for which I’m likely wholly unqualified. They emailed me and said, “we'd like to extend an offer to come visit us so that you can get a better sense of the people and program.
Please give me a call at your convenience and I'll help coordinate a visit on our dime.”

I'm likely reading too much into this, but is this more of a one on one meeting or is it “second look”? I was unaware programs flew you in to give you more info about the program when you’re accepted. Also, when they say a visit on their dime, do they mean they’re paying for travel/lodging/food? (I know this is probs something I need to just ask them but was curious if anyone knew)

Most schools say something on their website about covering costs for second look visits, and I believe that a pretty large percentage do (even a lot of the non-MSTPs). The program where I currently go covered 200ish for travel expenses for second look as well as hotel and food. They also cover the same expenses for interviews, which is much less common but was rather nice (except that I used frequent flier miles because it was cheaper than ticket minus $200).

You may be able to get more program specific knowledge on the physician scientist forum.

You're being wined and dined. The program obviously wants you and wants you to have a strong feel for potential faculty members and projects that will sell you on coming to the school. Congrats future physician scientist!

What school's program is this? Most of the larger MSTP accredited programs have formal second visits with a group of accepted applicants all coming at once, but it's possible that in smaller programs they fly the applicants out individually. I agree with others here, go for it, it's a great chance to meet with professors and get a sense of the program without the stress of an interview, and they should pay for at least your lodging and food if they're a reasonable program. Some even reimburse travel. Feel free to ask people on the physician scientist forum or post in the 2019-2020 MSTP cycle thread: *** 2019-2020 MD/PhD cycle - Questions, Comments, and other things ***

Congrats and welcome to the MSTPham!

Congrats and welcome to the MSTPham!

it’s a non MSTP program so that’s likely why!
