Something that I find difficult with discussing means restriction with families is this: most research suggests that in kids under 12 who commit suicide, hanging is the most common method. Is there any guideline you give parents to restrict means in regards to risk of hanging? Looking into research, I get this:

“Restriction of access to means of hanging is often not possible at a general population level because the most commonly used ligatures and ligature points are universally available (Sarchiapone 2011).” (Means restriction for the prevention of suicide: generic protocol). This is the issue I run into.

Any ideas that you all have used in clinical practice??
