I'm really interested in applying med-peds, but realized this after taking only COMLEX step 1. (the last thread I could find was from 2009!) I'm planning on doing USMLE step 2 (I figure demonstrating the ability to take two sets of boards would be a plus), but I would like to get an idea of places that would be Osteopathic friendly, and I would love to hear from anyone with first-hand knowledge of applying to these programs. So far I"ve found Christiana in DE, but unfortunately most of the "DO-friendly programs" say they require USMLE, at least on their websites. Any ideas appreciated thanks!

Have you looked at Freida? I looked through a few IM-Peds spots a bit ago and found at least a few that took COMLEX, but can't remember them off the top of my head. Taking Step 2 is a good idea, and honestly I would start contacting programs that you're interested in, expressing your interest and asking them if you should apply, given that you haven't taken Step 1. Be sure to state that you will be taking Step 2, because many places that say "USMLE only" may actually be OK with only Step 2. It really varies by program. I also wouldn't be completely discouraged by websites saying they require USMLE, especially if this isn't explicitly in reference to DOs, because by USMLE most mean medical licensing exams in general, as their residents will have to be able to be licensed in their state.

This is the feeling I got. I've had issues trying to get into Freida but I'll give it another go!

Freida is essential. That said, I'd use it only to get an idea and narrow down your search. Your best bet will be places in the midwest, but honestly, look all over. If I get a chance I'll try and take a look since I have a friend looking for similar info, but it might not be until the weekend.
