Medical Realted paid jobs for college students

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Being a receptionist is not the worst thing to do, especially in a very small private practice. A friend of mine did that on her in-between year. You get familiarized with the ins and outs of everything that happens, and you can really get to know the docs that work there.

In my opinion, you should volunteer at a hospital first. That will get your "foot in the door." Right now, basically everyone would love a job in a hospital. However, without great qualifications (a.k.a., if you are not a doctor or nurse, or do not have 10+ years-of-experience as a👎 <insert non-professional hospital job here>), it will be very difficult getting into a hospital as a paid-worker right away. Volunteer, and maybe in a few months, when an entry-level job opens up that you are qualified to do, you will get it.

I worked as a scribe in the ER for a year. It was, hands down, the best job I ever had. The job description required things like medical volunteering and leadership experience... great organization too. If you are looking to go into medicine I would highly recommend applying to a scribe program if it's available in your area.

I think you're WAY overestimating (or overexaggerating) the amt of experience necessary. I can get a job in my field in any hospital to which I've applied w/ 1-2 yrs of FT experience and some solid references from former employers along w/ my EMT-B. Once you're above the 1-yr experience mark, things get quite a bit easier but below that, no one really wants you b/c you require so much trng and you're a risky venture (esp. as a pre-med).

i also use "careful, man, there's a beverage here!" regularly.

I personally like "that ____ really ties the ____ together" i.e. "that biochemistry class really ties the premed requirements together!"

And if they don't get it, a simple "shut the f--- up, Donny" will suffice.

i recently found out that this piece of artwork that is film is not regarded widely as a "good" movie. apparently it is only our generation (and really those a few years older than us) that like it. and not even everyone. just the cool people.

what is going on??? how do people not recognize its greatness????
