Hi. I was hoping to receive some feedback from fellow med apps, current medical students, or residents regarding a medical school decision. I am currently deciding between IU (Indianapolis campus) and Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. Loyola will be more expensive (~$17,000 more over 4 years.....but they are giving me better interest rates so it still only comes to $20,000 more once you add 10 years of interest to it) and IU is ranked higher. However, I feel like Loyola is more of a fit for me, considering I have taken time off and not been living in Indianapolis for the past 4 years. I really love big cities and schools (IU is a big school in a smaller city, Loyola a small school in a bigger city).

Basically, I am wondering how much ranking matters. I know I will be happy at both, but feel like Loyla is more of a fit. Do I go to the better school or the one I feel I might fit in better with my surroundings (near Chicago, more open-minded, etc.)? Also, with regards to a big state school versus a small private school, does anyone have recommendations on where I might get a better education?

Thanks so much for your help!

Personally I'd go with fit. Four years is a long time and it will only feel longer if you don't like the place you're in
