Sorry to rebump this thread after a very long time but I have some questions that I would appreciate help with.
If I took pretty much all (99%) of my pre-med courses at the community college level and am used to a class size of about 40-50 students/class, would you guys think that transitioning into a med school of say 180 students would be difficult? For my University on the other hand, I will say it was a Cal State and not a UC system, the majority of my classes were medium sized (probably 50-70 students) and some were large (100-130, in my opinion). I think the smaller classes allow for a better rapport with the professor and they'd be more likely to know who you are based on that. On the flip side, from what I've read on these forums, if you're someone who studies better at home and doesn't pick up too much in lecture (me personally), it might serve you well to go to a med school that provides recorded lectures and watch it at home. In addition, what would you guys recommend if I'm used to a cal state system vs the UC system in terms of applying to med schools? What I mean by this is let's say I get into UCLA med school, will it be a much different environment vs the Cal state I went to (granted you're comparing undergrad to med school, I know) in terms of professor rapport, class size (most likely yes), the way the teachers care about teaching you the material, and getting letters of recommendation?
If I do choose to go to a school that offers pre-recorded lectures, would going to a big sized class vs a small-medium size classed even matter at that point since you won't be in lecture a lot of the times? What are the advantages and disadvantages of going to a lecture in person vs watching it online? The only things I can think of is less socializing with people, but if that's something that doesn't bother you, then it doesn't matter. The other thing is would it affect your ability to get good letters of recommendations from your professors since they wouldn't see you as often since you'd be watching lectures online vs coming to class?
Thanks for your help!
