NO they haven't. I am seriously losing my patience. I called them today again. Ms. Davis got my contact info again and said that they will call me but doesn't know when!!! What really worries me is that classes start in June and I still don't even know if I'm rejected or waitlisted!!! I really hope that I find out by the end of this week.4paw said:did they get back to you?
Vitriol said:i feel like they are just stringing me along until may 15th so that they know if i got into other schools, and if i did, they will waitlist me or reject me. i interviewed back in march also, and its been 8 weeks now and still no response, even though i called and e-mailed both ms davis and mr mosley. ....
im going to shoot someone if i dont get a response from them soon!!!
docjolly said:hi there,
I am a first year medical student @ Meharry 😍 😍. I personally was accepted last June, which was well beyond what was considered the norm. I intereveiewd last February 24th. Interestingly, some of my classmates (roughly 3-4) were accepted within 1-2 weeks even after our program began (on June 20th). Don't ever give up hope 🙂
If you truly want to attend Meharry, I STRONGLY urge you to contact Mr. Mosley. I wish you all the best 🙂
If you need any advice/help, please don't hesitate to send me a PM 🙂
USArmyDoc said:Hes been pretty cool. He told me they really liked me (even though I was placed in the acceptance range). Sometimes, I wonder if he says that to everyone. Then he gave me a bunch of things to do and send to him.
jjp1633 said:Hi all,
This is my first time posting, but I have looked at this website for about a year now. I just have to say something regarding Meharry. This place has left a very bad taste in my mouth, not the school, but the administration and staff, especially those who are there to inform you of admission or rejection. I don't know if that is Mr. Mosely's job, or someone elses. Anyway...I was put on the waitlist, called, wrote emails, got the run around just like everyone else. May 15th came and went, June 20th came and went, August came and went, nothing!!! I didn't even get a letter in the mail, not even an email telling me I wasnt accepted. I don't know what goes on over there, but it is very unprofessional, at best, more rude than anything. I never really vented, so there it is, I still don't feel any better. I don't mean to discourage anyone, good luck all.
kypdurron5 said:Unfortunately no one responded to my post. What did you think of school when you were there? Do you have any other schools to compare it to? Thanks.
jjp1633 said:Everyone there seemed happy to be there, and the experience you get while there (I hear) is good, because when you are at Metro General, there aren't that many residents there, so third and fourth year students get to see, and help a lot more than in other shcools. The facilities there aren't in the greatest of shape, and the neighborhood Meharry is in is a low income area. But that is why Meharry is there, to serve the underserved. The school doesn't really compare to others, since others I am familiar with have much more funding and research doctors that bring in lots of NIH grants. It would not be my first pic, but since I don't have stellar scores like most people on this site, beggars can't be choosers. Oh, to answer your question, If I was accepted at UT or ETSU and Meharry, it would be a no brainer, and it wouldn't be Meharry. Not to trash that school or anything, it is important to Tennessee and surrounding areas, but the opportunities at other schools outweigh the ones at Meharry, that is partially subjective, but I think most would agree.
USArmyDoc said:Did you interview at those places?
I personally was very impressed with the school. People need to look past the cosmetics and realize the positive aspects the school can give to a student. I loved my interviewers. They were so nice and they really made me felt comfortable. They talk about a family atmoshere and it is not just talk. They follow through with it. You say they don't have all the research grants. Well thats because their main mission is to provide PCP's to the underserved. Maybe if more schools had missions like Meharry there wouldn't be as many people in the underserved populations struggling for proper health care.
BeBlessedMD said:Well JJP, I think its safe to say you didnt get accepted and if you did, you got a lot of catching up to do as the years is almost over. For the rest of you, I wasnt accepted until early June (about 2 weeks b4 Maps began) so the best thing to do is to continue showing your interest, relax, thank god for life and let the chips fall as they may, and in this case...when they may. Best of luck!!!
Regards,
Blair MS I almost II !!!!!!!
P.S. tired of student doctor.net haters always "discussing" things they have no idea about. blah 😴
BeBlessedMD said:One more thing, as far as your "no brainer" I have classmates who turned down acceptances to ALL of the other TN Med Schools you listed as well as other schools (top 15) across the country to come to Meharry. I just dont want the others to be discouraged by this nonsense. Back to studying...

jjp1633 said:If you reread my previous post, not just skim, but read it, I am pretty much saying the exact same thing you are. I said, "the school doesn't really compare to others" because, like you said, their mission is totally different than everyone elses, and the effect...they don't have grants and NIH funding. Is that bad, no! Would Meharry do a lot more if they had grants and NIH funding, you bet they would, and the healthcare of Nashville and TN would improve because of it. All I am saying is that with money, you can offer a whole lot more to the student as well as the area in which it serves. That is just the way things work unfortunately. Does that mean that Meharry isn't a good school? No. When I said the facilities aren't in the greatest of shape, and that it is in a low income neighborhood, that is a fact. I have been to other schools, UT and Vandy. And what I am saying is fact. The guy asked which I preferred, and I told him which "I" preferred, that is why I said "partially subjective, " I guess you could argue totally subjective. If I offend you with my statements, I apologize, but I am trying to be as objective as I can. And I agree totally with your post. If you haven't got in, I hope you do! And not the runaround I got, you have to admit, that was very unprofessional that I didn't hear anything!
USArmyDoc said:Great!!!! Nothing is freaking working out!!
jjp1633 said:There usually, for the most part, is some movement on the waitlist. I believe I heard the same thing last year around this time, and there was waitlist movement. You know what, I think someone posted the exact same message last year about the class was full and the waitlist wasn't expected to move, but it did. BlessedMD got accepted two weeks before MAPS, so don't get your head down. And I remember reading about someone else that was accepted after MAPS. So you really can never be for sure. Good luck!

JJP do you have unfinished business with Blair or something? Do you guys know each other? If not, dude, I'm sure he did not know how he sounds! And I wish you all the best, and I have read your posts, and you are disscussing lots of different viewpoints in a pretty well-rounded and fair way. And, I totally feel for how you got no word back. I'm currently waiting on a decision and that would be incredibly painful to never hear back. So, given that you suffered that kind of pain, I'm more impressed that you speak of the school with a fair amount of respect - saying that it's a unique school, you like its mandate, but the admin is painful, etc.

Dr.nash said:If Meharry will give me a medical degree I would take it. I even want to work in an underserved community and help those less fortunate. I really do. I like the meharry philosophy but I think the Meharry alternate list and admissions staff genuinely don't care about most applicants. You can show them that you care and would fly to the moon for them and they will not budge. The are looking for "specific qualities" which students must have. If you don't have these "specific qualities" you'll make the alternate list so they feel better and you feel better about not getting rejected. THey won't reject you, they will just make it more painful, put you on the alternate list and tie you up on the back of their truck and drag you until school starts all to say.. Ohh sorry our class is fully. Meharry needs to get more organized.... I have nothing against meharry and I think it is a wonderful school. But I think some care and concern needs to be shown to the applicants....
Best to all you on meharry wait list.... My 2 cents
