Yearly between 500-1000 people in the whole country thinks its a good idea to become a podiatrist.

"In 2022, approximately 2.02 million students in the United States graduated with a bachelor's degree"

.000035% of graduates want to be a DPM

This hurts.. lol

(Yet somehow we're still saturated)

The big drop this year could be transient with coming student loan caps discouraging applications. That probably does not tell the whole story but as Feli pointed out in another thread it is going to contribute to decreased applications.

To be fair - when you’re an undergrad already in student loan debt you don’t get need to pay for yet until you’ve graduated, it all seems like fake numbers. You hear that podiatry will have you make 250k+ average from a certain website. In your mind you think “yeah I’ll have a lot of student loan debt but I’ll be making so much it won’t be a big deal”.

Then reality hits and you’re making 120k at an associate mill 7 years later after tough school and a residency (possibly fellowship).

Also btw that 30k undergrad debt is 400k now.

I prompted AI to imagine "the last podiatrist." Sadder than I expected.

Linkedin: Fellowship trained foot and ankle orthoplastic trauma surgeon. Key decision thought leader.
but... (1 year in practice, ABFAS qualified, employed by private practice)
Sounds legit. Still a podiatrist, nonetheless.

Honestly learned some new things from a thread awhile back we had about biomechanics. None of my attendings really did much offloading surgery.

True surgical offloading is new....in the US at least. I am doing more and more floating osteotomy on sensate people. No weils. MIS cut and and run. Self levels. Nobody complains of pain. They all heal. Toes straighter. @wakaflocka88 has done a lot more than me. But let's keep focused this is the meme thread.
