Hi,

So I submitted my secondaries before I started reading SDN. I mentioned my struggle with depression on several of my secondaries to explain a drop in my GPA. After reading some posts about this, I regret disclosing this information. I have received IIs from 5 schools, some of which I mentioned depression to, and some that I did not. I'm posting because I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to hopefully better explain the situation to some of the schools that I mentioned my mental health to (like some sort of update letter?) or if I should just leave it alone.

Thanks

If they ask in their interviews then they ask and be prepared to answer their questions about it. Nothing else you can do other than to think up responses now than on the spot. The fact that you got IIs means that those schools are interested in you already to begin with.

Thank you, it was brought up in one of my interviews (who was an attending psychiatrist, no less) and I think I handled it well.

But, I'm specifically wondering about schools that I have not received IIs from. Is there some way for me to reiterate that this is no longer an issue to them without sounding neurotic ?

The fact that you have received 5 IIs (no mean feat) shows that these schools see something in you that is worth the risk. Typically, long periods of academic excellence allay fears that mental health issues might be a problem in med school.

Take this from someone who has had to take medication twice for depression, and seek medical intervention with counseling on two other occasions.

Do NOT write any sort of update or explanation. That will be asking the admissions dean to reject you. Save explanations for interviews.

Now go read my posts on guide to interviews and guide to YOUR interview questions.

And good luck!!!
